*LEGITIMATE BUG FEAR TRIGGER WARNING!* There are *BEE NOISES* in this video, so if you are *AFRAID of BEES* then please skip (for maybe 2-3 seconds each time) during these time stamps! I do not recommend listening with headphones if you are *AFRAID OF BEES*! (All caps so people can see!) 4:49 4:58 5:08 5:16 6:40 7:21 18:01 18:04 and immediately after at 18:06 (so just skip a full 5 seconds ahead with this one) So sorry about that! In the editing software all my SFX were at a reasonable volume, but after export I noticed a volume spike in all of them. Go figure that all the other SFX in this video were soft bubble pops and the ONLY intrusive one also gets boosted to a louder level. I'm so sorry and it won't happen again! I know how common a fear of bees is and I should have been more thoughtful. Love you all!

With a few run-ins with varieties of striped insects, to which I'm hyper-sensitive (kind of like allergic, but not life threatening)... I've grown a near hysteria, around bees. Strangely enough, most of the striped insects I'm actually over-sensitive to are either wasps or hornets... (some of both)... BUT the net result is that USUALLY, a sound like that would send me into a fit of thrashing and flailing, swatting and/or running and screaming... ...BUT then you do it with the Bee Paper insignia... and I just can't stop giggling! I probably rewatched this vid two or three times to get the main substance of it. Don't EVER stop or change, Emily! ;o)

Was literally painting translucent anxiety flowers when this video popped up. I don’t often comment on videos, I tend to get kind of nervous and anxious, but I just wanted to say that since I started watching your videos (ages ago) not only has my grasp of art and watercolour expanded, but also I’ve had this sort of sense of someone in the art community being in my corner, and knowing that other people experience these struggles and are willing to share their coping strategies is a very affirming feeling. It’s hard to explain to people that you have problems with things when there isn’t really much by way of visible symptoms, and I think this video was a very brave way of brushing that all aside and just saying “hey, this happens, and when it does, this is what I do” and I’m very grateful for it. This video was calming all the way through, and even though I always look forward to your vids, I’ll definitely be looking forward to more like this. ❤️

Honestly part of the reason I started drawing dragons was because they are 1 my favourite mythical beast and 2 not real so I could make them whatever I want. It's so peaceful to work on something that can bend to whatever mood you are in and just let your mind go off wherever.

I've been struggling with anxiety since I've started high school. After watching this video though, you've kind of made something click for me. In the time's when I've been the most stressed, I too have gravitated towards painting flowers when I try to calm myself down without realizing it. Your logic behind why you like to draw flowers made so much sense. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this! Also, I'm kind of embarrassed to say this, but I did think that the bee was real and started swatting at it. It took me a minute to realize it was just in the video.
@MalibuBon
@MalibuBon 5 лет назад
Creativity is great to help focus, distracting one from something uncomfortable. Don't feel embarrassed about swatting at a bee in a video, I've looked behind furniture and in corners of the room for the cricket, before my hubby told me it was in his video game! We still joke about it years later.

I fight with sever anxiety on a daily basis. With depression on top. And creating art (with any medium actually: drawing, painting, clay and so on) helps me relax. I have excessive thoughts all the time, but I have found out that being creative slows it way down, to a state where I can relax, which help tremendously with my anxiety. I will definitely try flowers. Thank you for showing it ❤❤

Im a florist and wannabe artist. flower/plant paintings in ANY form is some of the most beautiful things. When i struggle i go to nature, look how nature is dealing with problems. Look at the ocean, the small swelling waves becoming big and then fades out into one big ocean again, natures way of saying "This too shall pass" or when winter comes, nature doesnt just give up and die, it just hibernates, as many people do mentally during winter. I sound like a total hippie but nature has answers so many people have spend decades and million of dollars to find.

This is so crazy because I always thought I was insane for having like a wind down, or de stress sketch habit of sketching squid and octopus lol. Something about the simplicity of the shape of the body and the tentacles but also the endless variety of sizes, textures, shapes and so on just really tickles my brain lol. It’s simple enough not to think to much about it, but diverse enough so it’s never monotonous. I have full sketch books filled with nothing but squid and octopus so I can totally relate to certain things just being almost like a safe place to create without having the stress and focus on precision to make it realistic, or unique enough for others to enjoy. Love this videos, and your works of course, and can totally relate!

Legit this entire video was about you loving the chance to paint like you're a kid again. Making art for art sake, not commissions or for youtube or sketchbook story times. Just sitting down and doing it. I love your story about the gels. The thought that we express and take interest in what it is that we love as youngens and then continue to find joy in it even as adults. Little things. I just discovered that I love sculpting earlier this year and I can't believe I never took the hint from 7 year old me who used to build things in class like Sakura's flying wand lmao 20 years later and I make things being in that same mindset, being in flow. I could sit and sculpt for 8 or 9 hours at a time. ANYWAY great video, thank you for sharing. I hope you get the chance to pursue this feeling more and really live in a relaxed and content state.

Flower painting is so great. And you're not the only one who gets stressed when there's to much going on and the level of complexity gets way to high (that's how I understood what you said in this video anyway). What a relief that I'm not the only one. Thank you for having that approach to art, that it's supposed to be fun, not master-level-art-or-it's-not-worth-doing-it, this is so refreshing.

This video always helps me when I'm struggling with old trauma memories resurfacing. The way you talk in this video just calms my mind down and I can draw some plants and animals of my own.

Watching you paint these was honestly so soothing. Hearing what other people do to help ease their minds and soothe themselves helps a lot, at least for me. It gives ideas of new things to try to manage my own anxiety issues. I draw simple-cute things when I get too stressed or my anxiety gets really bad. Watching art videos helps, too. I like to listen to your vids while I draw those kind of things. I may have to try painting flowers when I'm struggling next time. It's certainly worth a try.

What calms me down most is drawing myself feeling what im feeling, its like looking at your reflection in the mirror and then reaching in for a hug. I love looking at myself and I love drawing myself, I love the way my hair and face looks, I love my art and I think Im art too. :)

I just had a similar revelation this week too! I had a pretty bad start to this week, mental health wise, and I ended up painting flowers for a Mother's day related prop I made. I found that my headspace actually improved so much after that short painting session too. I totally agree - mindlessly painting flowers was definitely such a efficient and useful way of managing my anxiety and depression.

I so understand, I do the same everyday. It's great to hear your personal experience. I lose myself in the painting and it makes my fibromyalgia, stresses ect. Block out so I have a calm mind. It's a wonderful feeling and I appreciated your thoughts on too big ect. I have my work pieces and my personal pleasure pieces. No stress art. Great video!

Those are absolutely gorgeous Succulents. I've lost a couple of mine recently, and I'm heartbroken over it. I also used to paint (watercolour), and draw (+alcohol markers) succulents too, and yours are just so beautiful. @jordannefuller if anyone is curious. However, It's been a year, so they're kinda burried. Anyway, I'm only at the beginning of the video and my arms hurt too much 4 type.

I’ve been dealing with an anxiety disorder and making portraits or finished artworks stress me out lately because my focus is not that great. Doing loose flowers and landscapes are perfect because I can make a ton and I don’t have to worry if they’re perfect or not. 💚💚💚 this helped alot. Thank you Emily!

Honestly I love this video so much, I feel like I can resonate with it. I struggle so much with my mental health and art is my was of coping when I'm over stressed. Yet I've never been able to sit and draw/sketch anything (because I'm a sketch artist and haven't got the money for decent watercolour tools) and I've always thought of drawing flowers, however I always freaked out thinking that if it wasn't perfect it wasn't good. Though this made me realise simple and "alien" flowers are just as good and I shouldn't let myself worry. Thank you for the heart to heart xx

Thank you! As a 50 year old woman with some pretty deep scars from my own brain chemistry, compounded by what life threw at my in childhood and beyond, discovering my creative side has been one of the most healing processes. Thank you for this video! I've been a lifelong doodler, and started very recently to use watercolors. Your example of this exercise was the answer I've been looking for, in how to use what I produce as more than just an add-on for my chocolate business. Thank you! While some of your other videos are entertaining, this one was definitely healing.

I'm happy I found your channel. You've helped me remember why I love art, and I hadn't even realized I'd forgotten. Flowers are just fucking great, aren't they? I like to sleep in on the weekends, and my kiddo is old enough that she can get herself breakfast if there are easily available things. I write her notes on the weekend with instructions like how many shows she can have, what she can have for breakfast (orange cut up in fridge in the blue container, pop tarts for a special treat, etc), and reminding her to come get me when she's ready for a hug or wants company. Sometimes I just use plain paper, but a lot of the time I use old sketches or bloopers I wasn't 100% happy with to write the notes over/around. When I'm particularly sad, worried, anxious or just down, sometimes I start stock-piling "stationary" for the weekend notes, and it's usually flowers. :)
