I have an old Arteza watercolor brush. Came from a friend who was cleaning out her mother's supplies. It has to be at least 15 years old and is my favorite brush. I wish they still made brushes.
people saying she is giving these a good review just because it’s a “paid promotion”, READ THE DESCRIPTION she got sent these in EXCHANGE for an HONEST REVIEW. she gave pros and cons, and really went in with criticism on their tube watercolours emily obviously isnt being biased with this review
Maybe because she says things so nicely...my mom has a way of doing this...even if she is criticizing something it doesnt sound harsh at all. #nicepeopleproblems lol!
maybe it's because so many people seem to confuse "being critical" with "being excessively mean/harsh" & that's kinda frustrating. then again, there's a lot of people who seem to think being mean is a personality trait, so whatever i guess. :p
SHE LITERALLY GAVE NEGATIVES AND SAID PHRASES LIKE “something to consider “ like guys shut up she’s being honest and she’s a professional artist with years of experience. And she said three and a half stars. If this wasnt an honest review she wouldve said they were perfect, however she didnt.
Hi, I bought the pallet a couple months ago, in November to be specific, and they changed the packaging and removed the printed sheets and include a piece of watercolour paper to swatch, and they are still amazing and buttery, and they changed some of the excess colours and swapped them out.
i bought some cheap watercolors in tubes to make a pallet just like the arteza ones mine cracked after drying i was really sad but after a while i found a hack that helped me a lot if your watercolors crack after drying you can add some honey to them i made many pallets this way and i never had a problem you just need to make sure that you don’t add too much honey hope this helped someone also english isn’t my first language , sorry for any mistakes
@@eveannaparsons1837 Do you think their quality is comparable to prisma color? I've been wanting to try arteza but I'm not sure what their quality level is.
@@chey_daniella they arent as soft, which I find alot easier to work with as I'm heavy handed sometimes and they are alot longer lasting. They arent as easy to layer than prismacolor but for the money definitely worth it. I would say they are a mix between polychromos and prismacolor. Definitely worth a try and definitely something I will be sticking to from now on.
@@nevaehl8148 i've seen some. I mean, those comments aren't really on top of this comment section, but there are some. And most of them are old comments, like six months ago or so.
It was so weird to hear that you don’t appreciate a lot of Browns! I feel like I need a lot of Browns 😂 I have a travel pan set that I created with my colour preferences and out of 20 colours, I have 7 Browns 😂 it’s so funny how artists can be so different
@@hailstormk9417 uhm, I mean if I want like a mystic forest or, draw someone freezing outside and their breath is visible(hard to explain in English 😅), I like to have a seethrough white layer of watercolor, also the white makes my other colors look like they are glowing if I mix it right. You can also use white pastels to get that look but it just takes a lot of layering and the white water color just works better for me
@@hailstormk9417 you can see an example on my instagram "lostintimeart" my first post there (I ran out of white watercolor so I couldn't play around more with it), but the panting is actually a great example
lostintime thank you! I knew what you meant I just wanted to know the way of doing it since I’ve never seen steam or fog created in watercolor before Thanks
4:50, I use white, and I wouldn’t call myself a beginner. I know I can’t really show any proof that I am not a beginner, but I’ve been doing art for about 4 years now (which, some could still say that is a beginner, I guess). And though I need to use the cheapest watercolor I can find, that doesn’t make me any less accomplished or unprofessional/a novice to watercolors. I like bold pastel colors and the white helps accomplish that. This kinda sounds like an attack/rant, I don’t mean that, but I think that others who use white shouldn’t be labeled as beginners or only using it for a smoky effect even if I’m the only one who believes this. P.S.: I know teachers/professors ban white and other colors but I use it because it works the best with my style.
True, I myself like to use white to portray smoky effects or sometimes even lighten the colour when just water doesn't do the trick. I have been working with watercolors for two years now. I guess you could call me a beginner but not because of the use of white.
As a nail technician who incorporates white powder to accomplish a colored acrylic, white acrylic paint for custom color AND white polish to alter an enamel &/or gel polish color...WHITE IS SIGNIFICANT for my work!
I am so happy I found this video just by pure coincidence. I was literally an hour away from buying the 60 count paint tubes by this brand and I wanted to make a premade pallet. Thank you for saving me the money I'm going to attempt to buy the watercolor paint palette.
I absolutely love Arteza's stuff, I've had their blendable markers for quite a while now and they're my favorite medium of art I've ever used. I recently got their fine tip pens to outline my art and it's all just,,, so great. I'm still growing in my art and want to paint more, and I'm certain that once I do get to that point I will be buying paints from Arteza
Oh! And another thing I love, buying specific colors of the markers when they run dry. I got a pack of the black everblend markers recently, four of em, for super cheap, they came in really quick, and none of those pens have dried out since!
I love Emily and her art with every inch of my being. She is so inspirational and funny. Literally love everything she does. I love to paint people, faces, eyes, flowers, skulls, crystals, anything along those lines. Love the video!!
Sounds like this is still a student grade watercolor set. No info on pigments? Lighfastness? True red, alizarin crimson or ultramarine blue? No way Jose. Also, while it sounds like a good thing that the colors didn't separate when you mixed them together, it sounds like there weren't any granulating colors. (ultramarine anyone?) Also tube paint that can't be dried and reused? That's some janky s--t.
@@day6kz No, all watercolor can be reused after is has dried. The problem with some of the cheaper made tube paints though. like the Arteza ones, is that they become very crumbly after the dry. They can still be rewet and used, but you have to deal with a whole bunch of paint chips and crumps that you have to rewet, they don't stick nicely to the palette ina one blob like higher quality tube paints do, that's all. Once you get them all soaked and reactivated, you can paint with them just fine.
I've been using a small Windsor and Newton pallet for a while and was looking to upgrade to something with more colors. Arteza was one I was considering, so thanks for the review. I also like to paint people and occasionally animals. :P
I just purchased the Windsor & Newton Cotman 14 half pan set, and you can fit 9 additional half pans in the case if you purchase them individually from somewhere such as dickblick.com. 6 fit perfectly across where the brush is kept, and 3 can fit in the tiny water bowl. So now my 14 pan set is actually 23 pans and way cheaper than their other sets for more - with colors I actually want rather than what they standardized in their pricey sets. Give it a try, maybe you can squeeze more into your set and you didn't even know it.
The Windsor and newton watercolours are very good quality in general, but the price is such a bummer.. I have the big palette... but my savings really took a hit.. but they are really good! But I would choose the Arteza over Windsor and newton just because of the price.. but for me Windsor and newton have a better quality.. just putting it out there! (I also recommend the arteza watercolour Pens! They are absolutely amazing for travel because they are ready mixed watercolour in a pen and are brilliant for layering and you can mix colours and it comes with a water pen and AH I love them 😩) (( not sponsored 😂)) have a nice day xx
Really solid review as always, I super appreciate how you always add even the tiniest little detail! It def helps someone like me who needs to know as much as I absolutely possibly can before I make a purchase :p And, as far as the contest goes, I mostly paint old houses and pretty girls with spooky eyes.
I love how you give reviews. This was way more info than I'm used to when hearing watercolour reviews and I do agree that the colour choices are unique! I orginally loved using markers to create my art with, but now I'm a watercolour junkie and now I want to collect them all. Tyanks so much for the review and I like to use watercolours to paint dark skin lovelies!
My issues with this company is their extreme price hikes. They started off being great for the price. However, within a year their prices have doubled and in some cases close to tripled. This is evident with their color pencil.
The "I love dipping into the hot pink" nearly took me out! I've probably said that unrelated to art as well. Haha! Quality content. Glad I found this channel.
I’m so glad you did this review. I am new to water colors and asked my husband for some supplies for my birthday next week (11th coincidentally). I actually have arteza products in my wish list on amazon. I plan to make a watercolor journal about my days with my baby. He is starting to crawl and now has two teeth so I want to capture these memories through art.
I'm super excited that this affordable brand has been getting good reviews. Great news for low-end-intermediates like myself :) My new favorite thing to paint has been (besides my go-to skulls and floral) snakes and furred animals. I love giving a good watercolor blotchiness to a snake body and then going in and picking out scales with a thin brush or micron :) (also DDLG with the paper is going to make me laugh for AGES to come)
I’m so glad you’ve reviewed this! I’ve been commenting on so many youtuber’s videos asking for this, Thanks so much! I don’t really paint too often and there was one of their products I had my eye on, the 36 premium brush markers? They look good but I’ve ordered them and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but it’s smudgy and leaks through pages... not sure if it’s the paper I’m using but my parents spent a lot of money on it for my birthday and I’d love to be able to use them, would you be able to review them? Thanks
I did a ton of work with the real brush pens and didn't have problems, but paper is super important. They behave the best on watercolor paper, and if you use them on mixed media paper, keep water handy to smooth the ink out. I haven't had problems with them bleeding because I've used thicker paper. So far I love them!
I'm still a beginner but I really like painting nature and animals with watercolors. I don't have a lot of experience with watercolors but you Emily are one of the artists that inspire me the most. I absolutely love watching your videos. Don't ever stop being you because your admirers far FAR outweigh the lime green jello people.
This may sound strange, but I actually like painting fruit/vegetables with watercolour. Probably my best watercolour piece is actually of an artichoke, too. 😂♥️
For some reason when I first read this I thought you meant painting the actual vegetables I was imagining how watercolors stuck to them when I realized what you meant xD
I'm so glad you did an Arteza review, I've been waiting for someone to do one. I only discovered Arteza a few months ago so I've been a bit hesiatant to buy the watercolours, but they definitely seem worth trying after this video! If you're up for it I would love to see review on Arteza's real watercolour brush pens; they're so fun to use but I'm pretty sure I'm using them incorrectly! And I don't have the experience to compare them to other brush pens. I love painting dogs with watercolours, they're wonderful subjects to paint and the diversity in which one can paint with this medium makes the process more exciting. As always, thank you for the great video Emily!
I'm still learning watercolor, but I love using it on my illustrations. Mermaids especially, as the color quality just seems to make the mermaids feel more alive! Your videos give me drive to learn more, and your stories always entertain and inspire. Keep being awesome!
I havent watched you in so long. You used to inspire me so much. I don't really know why I stopped watching your videos. I'm gonna go binge. Thank you so much for your amazing videos.
I love to do my Dungeons and Dragons Characters in watercolor, but I've rediscovered how much I love seals and Selkies through doing them in watercolor.
I'm so glad to hear about the issues that their tube paints have, I haven't tried them on my end but I'm also a big fan of putting together my own half pan sets from tube paints so it's good to know not to go that route should I ever pick up the arteza watercolors.
I just started with watercolors. Funny enough, i only have the larger set of prang watercolors (which i do like), and i wholeheartedly blame you for that purchase 💖💖💖
*appreciate the honesty in reviewing the colors for this pallet as i plan on ordering from this company soon...now i know which colors to focus on while assembling my own pallets*
I’ve been waiting for a good Arteza watercolor paper review 😍 when painting I love to paint my daughter. Last week I painted her riding on a giant cat 🐈 my imagination gets the best of me! Love you Emily!
I just started getting into watercolor. But I've mostly painted flowers and water scenes. You actually really pushed me to work with watercolor!I usually work with acrylic paints.
I LOVE painting sunflowers with watercolors. The gradient is just so beautiful and much smoother than with acrylic. The layers just look very pleasing to the eye.
I've been contemplating whether to get the 36 set or not, and after seeing your video it got me to thinking I may need to try them. Love your art and channel!❤
Eh... Working with Arteza is really sketchy with their team... They've fallen through with their contracts in the past... Putting in the list that they would give the artists a discount code to use or link and ended up having to be reached out to several times to only get a brick wall saying they didn't make that promise. And when they finally fessed up and gave the code/link... It didn't work. They are a sketchy and rude bunch...
Sadenna Swafford Really? I’ve had a really good experience with Arteza. Where can I read more about this? I’d like to know before I continue to work with them.
@@emilyartful It was a streamer/youtuber. He didn't put anything out in the end but told us he will never work with them again, they reached out to him again saying their "higher ups" were working on it exclusively and they still screwed it up with the wrong products sent too. His youtube is mostly about graffiti and his twitch is mostly oil paintings. If you want I can DM the person's info on twitter or insta if you would like?
I’ve been ordering from them for years and have never had an issue. My last order was with a deal from an Instagram post where I got an about $100 order of watercolor brush pens for $30.
They must have heard u about the swatch cards…my set came with a printed blank swatch card with the names of the colors on it matching the layout of the trays…and even some blanks so u can swatch your own mixes!
I love to paint people, places and plants with my watercolours, and my dog, Sandy - who was the reason I started to draw & paint in the last couple of years! Really enjoyed this vid!
Arteza seems to be on a promo tour, because Arteza reviews are all up in my Recommended, lol. Evvvverybody's getting their products right now and reviewing them. Probably helps boost the algorithm that I almost got their gouache to try and it's still sitting in my cart 😂 But honestly, I was kinda waiting to see if you got them too, and did a review. I trust you a bit more than others, to be honest and fair at the same time. You haven't steered this very-beginner wrong yet. 😊 PS. This very-beginner is trying them out with stylized chics. I've drawn them for years in graphite, but always felt that the learning curve for watercolors was way too much. Feeling braver now and RU-vid is much cheaper than Skillshare. Thanks for all your helpful, encouraging and hella entertaining guidance. 😊
I’ve just started watercolors and I find your videos super helpful and chill. I’m getting into painting scenes with kids or kid like characters in them and it’s turning into a real journey :3
That many yellows, yeesh. I'm usually good with just a few- Bismouth, Hansa, and a Gamboge or Azo Yellow. You'd be surprised how much you can mix with those colors! I'd say these are definitely a higher end student grade paint. And the palette could certainly be reused by the artist when they feel comfortable enough to move on to professional quality. It looks nice enough. :) Well done on this, I enjoyed your video.
I love to paint just random objects I see on my desk and flowers. I really really want to start painting flowers and more flowers because they’re just so beautiful and unique and there’s so many techniques to painting them.
Thank you for being the ONLY RU-vid creator who didn’t go so hard in praising all arteza I’ve seen so many backtrack on tons of “no-no’s” they hold true to in many videos but then those are out the window when it csme to their arteza review and that ten percent code they get a commission on. they should have more been honest and go to the company like Emily did to note her concerns and still find things she liked to genuinely take to her audience. I will try the paper as I’m still on hunt for a good paper that’s not arches which I can use for practicing.
You know what's funny? I got SO many comments of people saying I gave a biased, only positive review! I was like "B...but I didn't..." I think they just watched the pro portion and didn't bother to finish watching to see what I really thought of these watercolors. I appreciate that you watched the whole thing!
I love your watercolor art and your art style in general, I love your videos you are my favorite artist and so unique and funny Love you so so much ❤️❤️❤️
I love painting with the Winsor and Newton with arteza’s water color mix media. It is just so smooth moving on the paper and blends so well. 10/10 best supplies I’ve ever used for watercolor.
Something I love painting with water colour and idk why, but plants, cacti, succulents, flowers. I just love it and I can just imaging the wonderful greens that could be made using all those yellows and blues!!!
I used to hate watercolors but now I can’t stop using them because of your videos and tips. I can actually have confidence in myself when using them ❤️ Also, I mostly just color people with them 🙂
I love painting things from nature with watercolors! Some of my favorites are sunrises (sunsets too, but sunrises are my favorite), trees and flowers, and other landscape type stuff.
your videos have me crying laughing. i love them so much. its refreshing to have a youtube artist who's like... pg-13 because i crack the hell up every time. i completely lost it at the DIPPING IN THE PINK and the ddlg with this paper bit. you are too much (in a good way).
Some arteza products are really good! I can totally recommend the gouache! But I don't get why you can not buy single paints. Just whole sets. That's such a same. I hope they'll change that...
I got this set after watching your video. I’ve always wanted to try watercolor painting and as a beginner these paints were so good! I thought I would have a much harder time but these paints made it so much easier and fun for me. And they included a sheet to swatch the colors yourself! Maybe because of your feed back and I have found that helps so much for reference instead of having a printed swatch sheet. Thank you for your video!
Yeah and no white???? I thought she was giving an honest review until she said she didn’t care about no white and the cons are so weirdly specific that I didn’t believe her for one second
True. And these colors are not UV resistent. Especially the red is gone after a few weeks in the sun. Makes me sad how she sold herself for a few art items.
I'm not sure if she has reviewed the arteza watercolor tube set, but I would love if she did a seperate video on that and talk about it. I really like them they are smooth and bright. I did know before purchasing them that they fell off. So right when I got a hold of them I got a tube and a pan, pouring about 1/3 of hunny in the pan and mixed it with the watercolor paint from the tube. I've heard that most bindings used for watercolor are hunny so I tried it with one tiny pan to try it out and not waste all of my paint if it didn't work out. I didn't expect it to work but it did, it looked like a normal watercolor pan and worked amazing. I don't know if there was a difference since I didn't really test it out by the tube itself. So now they don't fall off and are like normal watercolors, plus I am saving a bit of paint. I also love it because it has a white. I do not use it to lighten colors, it turns pastel and I feel like whites in general make things muddy if you mix it. Although I do use it as gauche in a way, the white is really opaque which makes things pastel. So I use that to my advantage and use it for tiny highlights. :)
I got the set recently and am happy to say they did replace the printed swatch chart with their watercolor paper and empty boxes labeled with the color names on so you can make your own swatch chart!
