It is weird to see this again. The iPod 5G (Video) was the first Apple product I ever purchased at 17 years old. At the time iPods were almost a fashion statement, and the iPod mini was stupid popular in high school. I just was amazed at the simplicity and wanted one. After getting one I got so won over by Apple's software that I eventually purchased an iMac in April of 2006...Well, my parents purchased one for me... Fast forward 14 years later and I have never left Apple. I've had multiple Macs, multiple iPhones, iPads and once a Watch. Plus to top it off I landed a job at one of their corporate centres earlier this year. I still remember a PC friend of mine literally BEGGING me not to switch to Apple because he thought I would have to use all these weird converters and different equipment just to connect to the internet at the time (I think truly he was angry he didn't understand the deeper workings of the software). I am happy I didn't listen to his advice.
I remember getting one of these the original 60GB iPod Video... it was badass and cost $599 australian back in 2005... blew my mind i put DVD's and episodes of everything on it and watched it in bed... blew my mind back in the day, it's still got storage bigger than some phones almost 10 years later, mind blown
@@atisbasak iPod=music player with old fashioned hard drive, very revolutionary miniaturization at the time iPhone= phone with 19929229 functions with FLASH memory, modern technology as of today, nothing revolutionary
It’s still hard to believe we lost such a brilliant mind. He is an inspiration for an entire millennium. Thanks for thinking different Steve. It changed the world forever.
Bought mine in 2005 at Best But. As of 2020, my iPod 5th generation is still in use, everyday. I’ve only done the following. 1. Four battery replacements. 2. One faceplate replacement. 3. One headphone jack replacement. 4. One memory replacement. The HDD gave out in 2018 and now has an SSD. Best device I ever used, hopefully it can last me a little longer. Love my device.
The biggest mistake apple ever made was getting rid of the ipod classic.......just within weeks of it being discontinued they were appearing on eBay etc with people bidding absolutely crazy money for them particularly the 30 60 80 and 160gb models and why.....because music fans miss the storage a d havimg a device strictly for music without using your phone. I love my ipod classic so much I'm never letting it go
To be fair, if you want a dedicated music player, iPods aren't the only option, and there are plenty of high quality MP3 Players available used and new, with the ability to have high capacities. The market for dedicated music players is a niche market these days, since phones can play music so well, most people don't feel the need to carry around 2 devices anymore. Honestly, I was surprised when I found out Shuffles, Nanos, and Touches were still made in 2017.
to be fair tho, the touch is now made more for the parents who dont wanna give their kids an iphone as the touch runs iOS. its also convinent for retail as ive seen those people use ipods for their point of sale systems.
I still have my original one I got for Christmas 2005!! I was the man back then!!! Though today its only a HDD now since the headphone jack broke but it still holds music. The screen still lights up and If I wanted to I could still us it docked in a stereo in my car. I also have th 5.5 generation which added the brighter screen just a few months later. I really want to fix my original though. It was so badass back then and it still had the impact that you expected from a new device Apple would release!!! Mine was 30gb.
Apple: Introducing the new iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 is completely different from the iPhone 7. ...you see now, it’s $800. (I fucking live that jacksfilms quote)
The price of the pro model iPhone hasn’t changed in 6 years. Actually a 64GB iPhone X cost $999 in 2017, now in 2023, a 128GB iPhone 15 pro cost $999, so you can see a much better value. The standard iPhone (not including the mini) has been $799 since the iPhone 12. And the iPhone SE is $429. I personally wouldn’t want a phone for much under $399 full price. Like buying a $15,000 brand new car, not exactly top of the line lol.
I still have mine from Christmas 2005!! Though for years the headphone jack was broken because cases didn’t exist like they do today for the iPhones. I was finally able to replace the headphone jack and replace the battery!! My iPod still works from 2005!!!!!
yep i still rock my ipod to this day, i;ve upgraded it with new battery, fresh front and back and even replaced the harddrive with SD card so it can carry all my music!!! apple really messed up when they got rid of the iPod, Steve jobs like he said in this "First And Foremost Its All About The Music" somewhere apple and there portable department forgot that!!
My 80 gig is epic. I'v had it for four years and have never had a problem with it *knock on wood*. These models are much more sleek than the Ipod Classics.
im always going to have a soft spot for these...i saved up a ton of money to get one to replace my 2 gb nano. so i could feed my music addiction in other words
"There are many MP3 Players out there that do more but are there any that have that incredible, intuitive interface?" Yup, the Creative Zen, which Apple recently had to pay $100 Million for patent infringement.
This was my first iPod. Black 60GB still have it and still works great. The video and storage compacity finally sold me on iPod back in '05. Bought it the week after the Keynote.
I remember I bought a iPod video first year of high school when they came out, I would watch music videos on it and people thought It was ridiculous and so cool.
I actually think the Creative Zen Vision:M is pretty awesome, mostly because it's the exact same as the iPod, but with a built in mic. I'm not sure how often I'd use it, but I know my mom would find it very useful. My only problem with it, and what has prevented me from getting one, is the fact that the Zen doesn't work on a Mac as well as an iPod does.
The iPod classic should definitely be back again and it was the best iPod ever and my second favourite iPod was the 5 generation iPod nano with the camera and radio and it was best video camera ever with special effects if iPods were to come back again soon it should definitely include iCloud support and sd card reader and a built in tv tuner and ssd drive and of course a camera with special effects
I used to have the ipod Video It got stolen in November 2007 than on December 2007 I got the ipod touch. I miss my ipod Video But Im now loving my ipod touch and on January 2009 I got the iphone 3G and im loving these 2 touch screen device.
@kakarot it was actually at around 40-50$ but I negotiated a bit and got it for cheap, it was a young girl, she may have got it from a familiar. But i'll take good care of it, i'll flash mod it and install a 3000mah battery
@kakarot depends on how you see it, for her it was an old mp3 player that Spotify could easily beat, she wanted the money, I wanted the iPod. I bought it legally and she was truly happy about it, I don't see the problem or mind trick
