understood, but the difference here is you can spec an Intel Core Ultra 7 or Core Ultra 9 with an RTX GPU. And the options in games are far lacking for Mac. Intel is only just beginning to get serious after years of slow progress it's no surprise here in your results with integrated graphics. Intel is catching up... and I expect they will continue to. In short, it's cherry-picking, there is way more variety and options when choosing a PC machine. Want to game? buy a laptop with an RTX GPU, such as a 4060-4070 if you want to keep the price down, or go all out with an RTX 4080/4090. Apple Silicon is great, I don't mean to discredit where credit is due, but the variety of options on the Intel/AMD side is just amazing.
Arm is the future for laptops regardless of all the progress intel makes... just look at the temperatures the dell laptop reaches. I'm not buying a new windows laptop until they start making good performace arm chips
yep the only problem with apple is apple. I will go with arm tho. looking forward that. process shrink on intel side may bring some perf gain but only before they will boost ip, as smaller process may not clock as high. it may be interesting what theuly may bring on the table on ipc side as intel lead here for so long and that is only reason i was interested in intel with my last upgrade. not to mention apple has to offer more than raw perfotmance.
If you're buying a laptop for gaming definjtely don't get an apple yet. But a laptop running a good arm chip like m series will be a lot better in battery, temp and general use. Also a bjg budget difference
Were all of your game tests run unplugged? and if so how much battery did each loss in the time you ran your test? I understand that many intel cpu's run faster when plugged in so it would be interesting to know that number as it would give more practical "gaming" comparison.
The book 4 pro performs way better in comparison. Dell xps could also have been chosen. Inspiron is bad laptop overall, in terms of build and heat management
Not going to defend Intel here but Inspiron is the lowest of the low in Dell lineup. Trying to play games on it is like competing in WRC with stock Ford Fiesta. I know, I know, this was the only thing available on the market at that time.
Since for the price of the Dell you can only afford the EIGHT gb apple, then that's what you should have been using. You are comparing a $900 Dell to a $1500 apple, and that's bad journalism.
Great to see some real life comparisons. It's great to see even a lowly Inspiron getting close to Apple M3 performance. I suspect we'll see much better performance from the Core Ultra chips in machines with better cooling and power mangement. Let's not forget, M3 is Apple's 3rd Gen Silicon whilst Core Ultra is Intel's 1st of the new breed. Intel's back and ready to whup some ass.
What kind of graphics card in the Inspiron? Intel Iris only? How are you able to play slightly more complex games with that? Will that actually work for video editing? Just curious because I don't know much about gaming.
Windows is not only a cheaper work laptop, it is unfairly compared although its nice to know a dell inspiron is not that far off to a macbook m3 laptop that cost 2000-3000 usd
I remember when Intel refuse Apple request to develop a mobile chip for their phones....now it seems like they are so soo late to chatch the competition 😂
That might be because x86 architecture is originally designed for PC's and not low power device such as smartphones. Intel did try to add x86 into a phone and it was horrible. So it made sense for intel to refuse
