Enjoyed going over this review. I've just bought a 2014 pre abs model and love it. Want the suspension to be softer and surprised Aprilia didn't do a clever suspension system on this like the Caponord but hey ho. Few extras on mine including a MRA screen and crash bungs I've added but it sits alongside my gen 2 and gen 1 Tuono carbon........ Love the sound with my Akro so just need winter to bugger off and I'll be out on it. Great review

Tuono is on my "short list" for my next bike upgrade. I really enjoyed this ride and review. I will be quite interested to see you learn the menu's and further details on the bike......

I watched your review before I purchased my Tuono, same as yours, in black. I must say that watching your review again after owning mine for a month... You nailed it! You managed to hit all the good and bad and eccentricities. Like you, I hate the low speed finicky throttle, makes you feel like a newbie riding thru town. But I added a 15t front sprocket for low speed smoothness, and bar risers for upright comfort. I do commute and it works well for me, I have found ways to ride it efficiently so that motorway mpg has reached 43, and after it fully breaks in I would expect even better. Around town is about 32. I would highly recommend the Tuono, as you have. I might some day get tired of it, but unlike my other bikes, I don't suspect I will ever get bored of it!

Thanks. I never like to review a bike until I've put some serious time into it so that I'm confident that I'm not talking rubbish, and if I've helped at least one person buy a bike that they're happy with, then I consider that a successful outcome. I almost tried changing the front sprocket gearing as it's a commin threat in the Aprilia forums, but I just ended up getting used to it and riding around the issue. I always prefered the satin black one to my white, so I have a bit of bike envy now and I'd have another one tomorrow without any hesitation!

I'm buying this exact bike (2014 V4R APRC ABS in white) tomorrow! A big part of that is because of your review.

Great review, I've got an identical Tuono to yours and absolutely love it. Agree about the exhaust too, it looks fine and as far as noise it's spot on and sounds epic once the exhaust flap opens up when you get up to speed.

I'm a happy 2014 V4R owner. Had it almost 12 months. Have to agree about the low speed fuelling and its drinking habits. For very low speed you just need to feather the clutch a lot, which is tough on the left hand to start with but you get used to it. The solution to its fuel consumption is to just accept it, much like you do death and taxes.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
***** Absolutely, it's just one of those things, but the fuel bill is forgotten as soon as you hear that V4 roar :)

I enjoyed this review. Great riding ability from you! I have a Mille RSVR and KTM 990 Superduke. Both have the snatchy throttle at low revs!!! I'm about to buy a second hand Tuono V4R. Your film has been very useful. Thank you!

+VeeFour Cheers mate. I'm looking forward to getting the Tuono. It will be a 2nd hand 1000 V4R APRC model. Nevertheless, I test rode the 1100 and the 1000 and really didn't find the 1100 much better, especially for another 7k!!!

As far as the low speed fueling drop the front sprocket makes it easier in traffic not as lumpy at low speed
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
Really? that's very interesting and would make it even more crazy in acceleration. How many teeth would you recommend?
@starrider1900
@starrider1900 9 лет назад
VeeFour you have a 16 tooth front sprocket you want to go to a 15 tooth and yes the the takeoff is crazy you can do like 89mph in first gear the local shop in my town highly recommend it on all of the tuono

VeeFour thank you for sharing your motorcycle with us. I am in the market for the naked sportbike. I just don't know which one I have on my short list the.the aprilia tuono and the Triumph Speed Triple I just don't know which one I know they're both great motorcycles but I can get a much better deal on the Triump ride safe.

starrider1900 A choice between the Aprilia and the Triumph, is a choice between amazing and fantastic. Either way you end up with a superb motorcycle :)

Very enjoyable and informative review. Thanks for the time and effort to put it together. I have a D675 that I love but sometimes wonder what a more upright / comfy riding position would be like and a new Aprilia dealer just opened half a mile from me (could spell trouble for my daytona :). Had a Street triple before which was good. Liked the daytona (current model) fueling and motor better though.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
Windy Run Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it as I always feel as though I waffle on to much. I've never ridden one, but I used to have a Speed triple which I loved, so the Daytona must be an excellent bike and you can't go wrong with a triumph. If you have an Aprilia dealer near you then you could do a lot worse than check out either the Tuono V4R or the RSV4, but be careful as they are addictive if only for the glorious noise that comes out of them (the GoPro doesn't do the sound justice)
@awdeveau

Excellent review. You should check out AF1 racing forum page there is tons of useful information for the Tuono V4. And Aprilia race mapping should sort your low speed fueling out. The name is a little deceptive though. You should have three settings for your wheelie control + off just like your abs. And thank you for the video I enjoyed it so much I subscribed.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
I'll check it out thanks. You're correct of course about the wheelie control, I have it on 3 (max) but it will still loft the front wheel a few inches under hard acceleration....which can be fun :)

Maybeeeeeeeee one day, but it's not at the top of my list. I really like the look of a RSV4 tail though. I've seen pictures of people who have fitted those and it seem am easy enough job, but the look is amazing

I've got a Tuono maintenance question for you. Just went out to check the level of the coolant and it was well below, low. This appears to be neglect on either the dealership I bought it from, or (especially) the dealership that I took it to for the 600 mile service. When I went to add coolant/distilled water in the appropriate amounts, the coolant seemed to be damn near overflowing upon opening the cap. The reservoir however indicates otherwise. Advice? I'm heading to the forums, and calling the dealership I took it in for the 600 mile service in the morning.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
DukeOfDC I'm f&cking stupid... I was opening the radiator cap, not the overflow tank cap... hence the radiator being full as it should. still an oversight on the 600 mile service boys, but not as bad as I thought lol

Quick question for you. If you rev your bike, in neutral, not moving, does the speedometer indicate a speed? I was just reviewing one of my new videos and noticed that it was reading a speed when I was revving the engine stopped. Strange.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
DukeOfDC I've never seen that on mine. If it repeats it, I'd get the dealer to reflash the bikes software on warranty just to be safe

Hi VeeFour. I picked up my 2014 Tuono last week and love it. I have bought an MRA screen for mine which will arrive shortly. The only other thing I want to fit is some new levers. Do you know if you can get aftermarket levers yet for the ABS model as I think they are different to the pre-abs model e.g. 2011-2013?
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
DanDude2905 Excellent, you have picked the right bike :) I'm not sure about the levers, I haven't given any thought to changing my levers. Whats the benefit to after market ones? is it just aesthetics?
@DanDude2905
@DanDude2905 9 лет назад
Well I fitted shorty red anodized pazzo's to my last bike which was a 2008 R1 and they looked great plus I like them being shorter. That's the only real reason. I tried to fit the same one's to the Tuono and the clutch lever fitted but not the brake. It has to have an extra arm on it that links to a sensor with a rubber surround on it. If you look at your bikes brake lever you will see what I mean. Anyway, enjoy and ride safe.

Very cool bike! This is the 2015 model? Also, how do you feel about the turn radius (I mean at very low speed in traffic, does it turn tight or very wide)? - I know it has been said that the BMW S1000R has a pretty wide turn radius, which can be a letdown in traffic. That sound is really incredible.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 лет назад
This is the 2014 model. The 2015 has an 1100 motor and an awful paint job imo. You raise a good point that I neglected to mention in the review, but yes this bike has a terrible turn radius and it's caught me out a few times when pushing the bike around. I can't see why turn stops are so narrow, it's not like it has a fairing blocking the movement.

Over the years you owned this bike what issues did you come across? Quality wise. What mileage did you get on average. I'm curious if you will ever love the R1!
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 8 лет назад
after 2 years and 5000 miles, I had absolutely zero problems with this bike. Quality wise, it's been one of, if not the best machine I've ever owned. The only issue I ever had with it, was it's terrible fuel milage. If you nurse it around and ride it gently, I was lucky to get very low 30s MPG, but with spirited riding I'd get around 26 MPG. Compare that with my new R1, which is averaging 42 MPG at the moment, the Aprilia'sone and only weak spot is it's gas milage. Oh I'm loving the R1 by the way, even more since we have just had our inaugural knee down on the ride I've just got back from :)

VeeFour the engine is perfect on my Kawa. Only the electronic is going crazy. Like the throttle sensor & the air pressure sensor. The bike in a garage lets see what the mechanic tells me on monday. If its cheap I will repair it & keep it.

Hi Mate Picked up my 2011 Tuono from 'On Yer Bike' in Aylesbury. Good dealer and a nice bike. Rode it back in bloody awful weather!! The only slight problem I'm having is the bike surging at tickover. Not too much of a big deal, thnk there maybe a duff TPS.... Any thoughts??
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 8 лет назад
Hmm I'm not sure, it's not a problem I've ever had. Try checking the AF1 forums, if anyone else has had the same issue it'll be on there. Shame about the weather isn't it, this is why mine is garaged for the winter now until April

Hi May I ask you which kind of microphone are you using? I'm looking for a mic to stick under the helmet recording while speaking as you do and I've got a go pro 2 witch has the 3.5 jack....do I simply have to plug it to the camera and nothing else? Sorry for my English, I'm watching you from Italy and I've just bought an Aprilia tuono v4 aprc like yours....❤ Hope you can help me. Thanks

Hello. On this video I was using a low quality and cheap microphone that I bought from Ebay. I now use a much better stereo one, the Sony ECM-C53. It has a normal audio jack and needs an adapter to work with a GoPro, but mine was supplied with one and it works fine. Enjoy your Tuono, it's an amazing bike :)

Hi fantastic video. Can you tell me please because I'm confused I bought aprilia tuono v4 aprc 2013 and In not sure if have abs when i done regeneration check the full name came up aprilia tuono v4 aprc abs. But i read that they came only from 2014 whit abs thank you
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 4 года назад
Hmmm, Google seems to think not (at least not in the USA). Non abs models still have the wheel speed sensors, but this was part of the TC and wheelie control. One clue maybe the rearset. If your rear brake has just one line running from the brake master cylinder to the rear caliper, then it's non abs. If it has a line that junctions off before it goes to the caliper, then it's abs. An easy test is to try and lock your rear wheel up as you are slowing down to stop. Really stamp on the rear brake at arpind 5mph as your slowing, and if you r rear locks as you pull to a stop then you don't have abs. As the abs activates you should feel a grinding vibration through the foot pedal 👍
@MrDamient5
