Aquila: First Italian CV Showcase - World of Warships 

I'm starting to like how every time new T8 CVs are released, Kaga is always mentioned because she's the ol'reliable.

I too picked up this CV, but I run a different build. I focused on plane health and AA reduction. Found that you can slap CBs and DDs really good. Since the time from 'start run' to rocket drop is a bit shorter then other CVs, you can successfully remove DDs. I get 5 to 7 citadel hits on a good run of a CB (like a Cleveland) and it just feels like fun. Still, as you said, if you are running tier 8, there are better choices of CVs.

If the planes are gonna be that squishy then something else has got to give. 58s regen still isn’t enough when you’re experiencing 50%-60% losses every strike. Maybe faster planes? You get in and out faster? That way you still have to be tactical with your strikes, but you’re not being so heavily penalized for striking a lone hipper… good lord he was knocking planes out even before he activated DFAA… Like with this you have to be utilizing every trick in the book to get a good game and preserve your planes. Pre-dropping, singling out lone targets and flying way out of the way to strike targets and avoid AA like the plague, and using every island possible to shield planes from AA. Like you have to be on 200IQ mode all game to do just okay. And then there’s kaga, chaky, and enterprise; “haha dmg go brrrrr”.

Well, at least reticle for rocket planes don't jump upwards like in german CV's. I hate the way german CV aim their rockets. I missed so many good strikes because of that. Also flying higher has one advantage. Islands or any small terrain elevations don't ruin your aim. Still, for a premium carrier? I think I will pass

Fun little carrier! I enjoy it from time to time.

I just don't understand why this carrier got the no bomber gimmick. The Italians were just as, if not more successful with their bombers compared to their torpedo planes. Why not all three types, but with maybe one being more useful or something?

Consistently great videos - thanks. 2 questions: firstly, each ship has an AA rating. How does WG come to this figure? Secondly, does changing speed and direction (as if dodging flak) reduce continuous DPS or is it better to try and just get through medium and short range AA as fast as possible ?

Thanks for this video, Reimu! For me, the Aquila looks more like a good Tier 6 carrier. At Tier 8 it could be very weak for average or below average players, she isn`t that easy to handle like the good old Kaga. Aquila needs a "tactical squadron" like Hornet has, with HE weapons, available every 3 minutes. To be honest, why buy Aquila when you can have Kaga and Hornet? I have both, and i`m satisfied with them. With the Hornet i got some Tier 10 matches and had no big problems with that matchmaking. Kaga has high plane losses, but fast regeneration time. For now, Hornet is my favourite Tier 8 carrier. The other side is, i have not much italian captains because i don`t like the italian ships, so my highest italian captain has 11 points. This is a weak base for Aquila, making her hard to play. When even Reimu had the problem of being deplaned with his 21 points captain, the ship could suck hard with a 11 points one. I`ll wait for the complete italian carrier line and then try the Tier 4 and 6 ones.

Carriers needs ASW and old rocket mechanics. too hard deal with 4dds and 1 sub per match. Actual MM meta sucks.

What's the point? Why would I spend the 30-40 euros this will cost? Also comparing this to Saipan is an insult to it because Saipan is actually an strong ship when played correctly

Heya, I'm sorta new to WOWz, Can someone tell me why there is a Saipan A and B? I happen to play mostly Saipan and haven't seen the Saipan B before?

Their choices do not inspire much desire to purchase nor play her sadly, I've worked my way up Hakuryu & Midway, have & play Graf Zeppelin/ Hornet/ Kaga. Considering Saipan but wish that if her restoration is so slow they would reduce the squad size from three attack flights down to two like with Hornet & keep the third flight on deck as reserves. Make low restoration CVs just hit and run specialists, with high restoration but weak planes I can see the thing WG is going for on Aquila but I can see her being more frustrating than Saipan personally. Kaga continues to look like the pinnacle T8 perm CV to invest in while Aquila will likely fallout of favor rapidly.

So I've seen some reviews and I'll buy it only beacuse of historical value. It won't be my first CV (many hours on Serov, Chkalov, Furious and Bearn), and definitely won't e the last. I'm still trying to see what type of gameplay suits me the most for CVs. As of today, I'm quite impressed with the Chkalov, even though I bought it literaly the day before it was nerfed. So I'll just play the thing and forge my own opinion

I feel sorry for those pour souls who are gonna waste their money on this CVL... If only she has a tactical squad like Horny, she might be _slightly_ better. I gotta say that Aquila is trying to compete with Graf Zep & Implacable for the position of the worst t8 CV

Supposedly the torpedoes get a higher than avg flood chance, and 2nd strongest torpedoes, just behind shokaku, in exchange for low hp planes and slow torpedoes, as per WG mod response to this question.

I will pick her up just for historical reasons, but it looks rather underwhelming... ...or rather, this is what a tier VIII carrier should look like: punish lone ship but being shredded when attacking in a densely packed AA kill zone. unfortunately most of the other CVs are completely broken and just grief the other players in game, so there is no point n playing Aquila.

People said similar things about the hornet when she was released but now they are saying she is pretty good. I think people just dont know how to play her effectively yet and just need time to get adjusted. I personally dont think its fair to judge a ship on first glance at least a 100 battles and a few weeks of play are required to get a good grasp on a ship in my openion.

Honestly, it's more of a searchable line CV, and weak, never a premium one. I don't see a single reason to play with him.

This hurts just to watch... No, I won't be buying her, I wanted her to train Italian captains but if she's this bad at the bottom tier I'd just be punishing myself. Not to mention that any torpedos that are even worse than the brit ones in terms of speed are something I'm not interested in dealing with. All in all, it just seems like a really bad mix of Lowe and Kaga.

Looks a bad copy of Kaga. And I get the same impression as with Hornet ... really underwhelming. Maybe nobody at WG really plays CVs themselves and they struggle to come up thoughtful design.
