ARDBEG 10 AND LEDAIG 10 SHOOTOUT.. 

I just uncorked a new bottle of Ledaig and i have to say that the smoke basically jumped out of the bottle to introduce itself, kind of like that extreme extrovert that has to to be the first to talk to everyone at the party. I guess it depends on the mood you're in but I have to say that I'm really liking the Ledaig, even over the Ardbeg. The smokiness is unapologetic and in your face.

Thanks for this great review looked this up having only just ordering the Ledaig 10, loved the Ardbeg 10 so am looking forward to getting into the Ledaig.

Hey Alan, I loved the comparison. I have to say I really enjoyed the Ledaig 10 after the first try. The Ardbeg 10 took me some getting use to, but I’ve come around finally. Both are very nice, but Ledaig is definitely the better introductory to a peated whisky (between the two).

As always Alan, thanks so much for the review/video/insights. Thanks to Mark S for the 'smoked' fish idea to help me get into the smoky/peaty whisk(e)y group. In my case, I love smoked salmon (alder wood, when I can get it), so have to do some mixing and matching and see how that enhances the experience with these type drams. Taking the info from Rob, think I'll go with the Ledaig first. Terrific job Alan. Cheers All!

Alan, I'm not a peat lover but enjoyed your comparisons of these two. 👍 I'll stick with HP12 for now and look at Talisker 10 next and then Lagavulin 16. Cheers.

I've have my Ledaig below the shoulder and have enjoyed the honey, butterscotch, and all the peaty smoke goodness. And will soon crack open my Ardbeg 10, but my wife is more interested in Highland and Speyside Scotch. Cheers Alan!

If you can agree with the oft quoted "bonfire on a beach" the I see Ledaig as a fire in a ship's chandler's. I like to paint in broad strokes and Ledaig 10 I like to describe as stood on the bridge at Whitby (Yorkshire coastal town) you can smell a dirty harbour and the kipper smokehouse on the wind with maybe a bit of diesel from a fishing boat engine- Romantic but it works for me. I also get spanish/liquorice, on the pallette and ginger and allspice on the finish - are you getting these as well?

A better known 10 than Laphroaig?

Did a comparison like this some years ago. My opponent for the Ardbeg Ten was the Laphroaig 10. Since that day I asked myself why this Ardbeg is so famous. Sure its a really good whisky but in my opinion not as good and also not as complex as the Laphroaig. Therefore I think the Ardbeg is a bit overrated. Apart from that I also like the Ledaig 10. I think it hasn't got such a round and harmonic taste like the other two but it is definetely a pretty good whisky one can recommend to other whisky lovers.
