I am on my 2nd pair of Metaspeed Edge. I am happy spoiled. Well engineered lightweight and very durable. I use these exclusively for running and mostly between 5 and 10k runs. 3rd pair likely coming at the end of this summer.

I’m sorry, but complaining about the increase in weight vs. the original Edge without even mentioning the increased heel stack from 34 to 39mm immediately invalidates this review. The Edge+ is a COMPLETELY different shoe compared to the Edge whereas the Sky+ isn’t much of a change.

@@tyleraltom6026 that’s different than changing the overall stack height though. He even mentioned in his original video about the Edge that it “wasn’t a marathon shoe” like they advertised which is totally fair, but they added 5mm of stack to the Edge+ to make it more marathon-distance friendly and it isn’t even mentioned in this video.

Hi Seth, great video as always. And as always there is one thing that slightly upsets me. At the end you list other shoes to buy with their weight in 9 US and then you show the quick specs of the reviewed shoe in shoe size 7.5 US. It is clearly stated so it is not confusing but I always want to compare the reviewed shoe to the other suggestions and this detail makes it harder. Could you please add also weight of the reviewed shoe in 9 US? PS: I know that there was a lot thoughts put in the way what you show. For the suggested other shoes, you might have not reviewed them yet, so you don't know the weight in your size. On the other hand, for the review shoe your actually measured weight is more precise than what the manufacturer claims. I see your point there. It is just a bit inconvenient when you want to compare those shoes.

On the naming policy schemes, New Balance is great about it in their more important lines. You don't have to have ever seen the shoe to know the difference between the Fresh Foam x 880 and the Fresh Foam X 1080. Hundreds column is stack. Tens column is neutrality. So, hypothetically, if New Balance releases a shoe called 'Fresh Foam X 1220' you would know immediately that this was a Fresh Foam X shoe, has a lot more stack than the 1080, and contains a lot more stability features than the 880. And they simplified the Fuelcell line naming. SuperComp means Fuelcell foam with carbon plate and all the latest technologies. Name of the shoe is what it was designed to be used for.

I'd love to hear more about the differences are between a stride runner vs a cadence runner. Does a stride runner need to work on flexibility more while a cadence runner works on leg speed exercises? Are there pro examples of each? For instance I heard Mo Farrah has a relatively slow cadence, does that mean he's a stride style runner?
@vincewarne228
@vincewarne228 2 года назад
There’s some info on how ASICS are defining how these shoes are intended on their website but essentially they are saying there are 2 types of runners, those who naturally increase stride more as they get faster (SKY+) and those who increase cadence more as they get faster (EDGE+). The EDGE+ has a more on the toes feel and promotes/assists with that quick turn over. The SKY+ has less of a drop, better if you’re bounding a bit more I guess. Maybe more comfortable for a marathon distance too.
@Eirikkinserdal

Would say Mo is both. To run at those speed you need a long stride and a high cadence 😆

Dude is full of crap. There is no such thing as stride vs cadence running. It has been scientifically proven that a high cadence is the most efficient way to run, and as you get more fit your cadence will naturally go up, as will your biomechanics efficiency. You don’t get to choose.
@SimoFromOhio
@SimoFromOhio 2 года назад
@@dakotawagner he’s absolutely not. My cadence increases to a little north of 190 at marathon pace while most runners are probably between 170-180. It’s nice that Asics is aware of this and is offering different options. Most people would probably prefer the Sky. However, some “cadence runners” still prefer the Sky because it helps increase their stride length which also naturally happens with increased pace. Seems like it’s more of a preference than something set in stone. But there is definitely a difference.

Unlike Sky+ which increased in volume of foam under foot WITHOUT stack change, Edge+ actually added significant stack (5mm more) vs v1 so weight increase is totally justified! I don't think the review has made it clear.

I like the Edge+ as well. I tested both and bought the Edge, which I suspected even before trying would agree with me more as a lightweight, petite, efficient runner with a very high natural cadence. I get a very nice discount from my favorite independent running store in San Diego which I visit often (they ship them to me in CO or have the company ship them direct). That discount on higher priced shoes becomes quite substantial.

I don't really agree with the durability prediction and price score. I've taken two metaspeed skys to 600 miles with liberally zero wear to the outsole and the midsole being as responsive as day 1. 250$ for a marathon racing shoe that takes you to 600 miles is good value compared to the Next % that looks like it's been through a world war after 200 miles or the Alphafly airpods that pop open (I'm too familiar with the sound of defliated airpods from my fellow runners). The Sauchony Speeds and Pros are good shoes but after 300 miles the midsole just loses all bounce.

I would tend to agree. I mentioned in another reply that Asics outsoles-along with adidas-have fantastic durability in addition to fantastic grip. I can’t say the same for Saucony, whose shoes I love (specifically the Endo Speed) but I always wear through a small outsole patch on the lateral rear side forward of the heel before the rest of the shoe is close to worn out. As for Nike AirPods, that’s the reason I would never take a chance however small on wearing the Alphafly for a major race. Too much investment of time and energy to risk that.

All of the superfoams out right now seem to be MORE durable than eva in terms of compression, while LESS durable than eva in terms of abrasion. I’ve found that creasing on peba/nylon seems to be cosmetic and doesn’t seem to indicate a short lifespan.

I still don’t understand the cadence vs stride terminology. As far as I’m aware the optimal cadence for efficiency is around 180 spm, and what I find is that if I’m running slowly and want to increase speed then I increase cadence to around 180, beyond that I tend to increase stride, and for sprinting then cadence again. Does that make me a cadence or stride runner?
