Dawn of Ragnarök, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's latest expansion, doesn't quite reach the highs found in previous myth and legends focused DLC, but it does evolve Valhalla's combat and navigation via an assortment of mythical powers.
I remember Ubisoft delaying all their games and claiming that Valhalla had learnt from previous mistakes and would be shorter. The only thing they changed with the delay is what the map markers looked like.
Not really. All the side stuff in Valhalla was truly optional. With the exception of the very last area there was really no leveling outside the main quest required and those side things really were just there to do as you saw them pop up and became interested. The result is that the checklist of things to do from Odyssey before you could get back tot he main quest is largely gone.
@@travisbewley7084 yeah not only that, but odyssey had over a thousand “locations” that you could clear out that ultimately bloated the game. And you felt like you had to clear some of the locations so you were a high enough level to advance the main story. Valhallas side content missions are shorter with way less dialogue and honestly some pretty funny moments. Some of them are poorly designed but a lot of them got a chuckle out of me
@@acolytekei A creed is a system of belief. Half the time I see people using the word when it comes to this series these days they seem to be talking about the organization instead, which would be the Brotherhood. Eivor's own opinions on freedom notwithstanding, Dawn of Ragnarok isn't even Eivor's story, but Odin/Havi's. Which means the subject matter is dealing with a time period that is quite literally too old to have any form of the Assassins or the Creed they live by. So saying Dawn of Ragnarok lacks either is not wrong in the slightest. Though honestly even Black Flag had more of both than Valhalla did...and it was a pirate game with hidden blades and way too much tailing.
@@acolytekei so your fine playing a batman game with Batman in the title but your Robin instead… or a basketball game where your just in the sidelines watching and not actually in the nba…
Honestly if they named it something else other than Assassins creed it works. Somehow they are farther from the Assassins Creed concept as the years have progressed
They ruined the combat as well. Counter attack is not the same as Odyssey. Thats what makes it tedious as well, not being able to customize as much and becoming stronger from it, while having fun combat to carry the game.
Ive tried twice now to complete it. The start of the game is so strong and then you realise its shown you everything that will happen for 100 hours in just 5.
Honestly... I think Ubisoft took the wrong message from why Curse of the Pharaohs in Assassin's Creed Origins worked. In Curse of the Pharaohs, the Egyptian Gods depicted in CotP are not supposed to be representative of any Isus. They are illusions manifested by an Apple, and the involvement of an Apple is the only extent anything Isu was related to CotP. Heck, the giant boss trials in the base game are specifically explained to be Animus glitches and nothing more. We never even learned in Origins if the Egyptian Gods derived from any Isus. CotP merely showed how potentially powerful the illusions manifested by an Apple could be. Bayek, being a very religious person, believed these illusions to be real, but it doesn't change the fact that it was all manifested by an Apple. I get that since Eivor is a Sage, she can access Odin's memories, but I feel like Eivor seeing everything as "magic" because she can't understand what she's seeing is such a lazy excuse to make a fantasy game. If Eivor sees an advanced sci-fi tech, she'd consider it magic too and the story would be no different, just with the proper visual representation for us players. The most boggling thing is, Ubisoft now already has a fantasy open world IP. It's called "Immortals", and as I remember, Fenyx Rising received quite favorable reviews for a new IP. They literally have a dedicated IP where they can freely do this DLC...
She doesnt see it as magic, she sees it according to her believes. The same way Ezio saw Minerva for example, they are all the same characters but in different mythologies. It has always been like that, i dont understand why people suddenly have a problem with that
@@hiddenblade2860 ... What are you talking about??? Ezio saw Minerva as she was, not as what he believed her to be, sci-fi garments and all. Minerva is Minerva. I think you're confusing your AC lore. And Eivor doesn't see Odin's memories as magic, but as what she believes it to be? Dude, you're contradicting yourself... She believes the gods are real and thus perceives any sci-fi elements to be magic/sorcery. Did you even play the game??? Your statement invalidates the very existence of this DLC... Before trying to understand why people have a problem with current AC, I think you should try to understand the games first. Maybe then you'd get your answer. I wish you luck.
Remember Eivor is not only seeing this through the lens of her culture but also in a drug addled state. She isnt using an Animus but getting lucid off drugs.
They should’ve just called this game something else instead of slapping assassins creed on it, this is nothing like assassins creed , Origins was the last game that felt closer to assassins creed, not saying Valhalla is bad but this just isn’t it at all .
I agree with you 100%. AC hasn't felt like AC since Origins. We'll probably never get another game like that, they are stuck on the fantasy and over the top powers rather than the creed, and playing an actual assassin seems to be a thing of the past nowadays.
This reminds me of a meme Assassin Creed valhalla: "can I copy your homework?" God of war: "ok just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious" Assassin Creed Valhalla: "ok, here is Dawn of Ragnarok expansion"
It's not like God of War invented Norse mythology But it sure seems to have handled it better than AC (aka Aesir's Creed) did it if the reviews are anything to go by
@@AceWing905 Ubisoft is basically following trends. Like basically ac origins was an open world rpg after seeing the success of witcher wild hunt. Pretty sure this game was inspired seeing the success of God of war. It's a shame since Ubisoft used to be very innovative and a trendsetter but now they try to play it really safe.
@@TheJaisonIpe This is true But following trends is the very nature of the games industry today Not really a case of "can I copy your homework" But yes, a little unfortunate considering AC used to be a trendsetter
I finally played and completed this expansion in about 2 or 3 days. Not found everything but have the majority already. Only reason I got it is that i was bored and i signed up for the ubisoft+ trial so it didn't cost me anything. The fact that they tried to sell this for 40 euros is straight up hilarious. Bearly worth the standard 20 euros... def them going for a final cash grab in the serious. Found so many parts that were dragged out by slow pointless dialogue or where the npc would walk at the slowest pace possible. If you ran ahead it just stops and stands there waiting for you to come back. The armor sets and weapons are of no real use. Some ok bonus's and looks but you could easily get through the whole thing without upgrading anything. The raven option was fun but i found i didn't need to use/upgrade anything bar that to reach some of the high floating platforms. The 'arena' seems very thrown together and there just to have people grind out more items you will probably never use. Similar to the Nephilim quest/section which tbh I went through 3 times and got bored of it by the second one. The 'end fight' isn't an end fight tbh... it feels more like a simple 'elite' fight. Very underwhelming and no sense of accomplishment. The whole storyline just feels wedged in there with no real connection to the original story at all. If it drops to 10 then maybe pick it up or just get the ubisoft trial if you really want to play it. You'll easily get through it in that time frame. 4/10 because it offers zero challenge, short, a massive cash grab and very underwhelming given its title.
4:02 Assassin's Creed: Rock Scrabbler. (I hate all the mountain climbing they use as game padding.) It was in the Origins DLC, and the Odyssey DLC. It was also in some of the base game of Valhalla. ....... Too hard to get around the map.
@@notrenbanney2450 On the contrary I really like the gameplay loop, but sadly not even that helps when the rest of the game is basically copy-pasted content from the base game on repeat.
Yeah not surprised, this is the only AC game I just really never liked from the beginning...own the entire series on UPlay and never really liked this one since lunch, DLC wasn't going to change that.
@@sweetamsterdam Elden Ring has been developed by From Software for 8 years. So the Elden Ring cannot accept any failure. That's why media ratings are very important for that game. 10/10 ratings are a good beginning for a new game.
Really? It's a good game? It's literally the same copy/paste open world game that all of Ubisoft's franchises have become. Everything it does has been done far better by other games. There is zero innovation. In fact Valhalla specifically has taken a step back in nearly every department over Origins and Odyssey. Ubisoft cares about one thing and one thing only, pushing MTX's.
@@Entreped I am not talking about innovation the game could be assassin's creed without power I mean they can change the fighting style they can you use Innovation in assassin's creed style but they don't do it now the series is becoming more over a mass they should end this series perfectly or reboot this series
The Hypocrisy reached its highest degree. '' but it does evolve Valhalla's combat and navigation via an assortment of mythical powers.'' a) How does it evolves in Assassin's Creed? b) Open a dictionary and familiarise yourself with the word ''mythical''! What we see in Valhalla is not mythical at all! Its MAGIC AND DEVINE POWERS! There's a huge difference from playing an Assassin to playing God! Now you got it, it's time to visit the Ubi's accountant and get paid for your efforts!

I was not pleased with this dlc. And the way it ended with teasing that it could or could not have a second part. And i don't want to spoil it for anyone. But they say its the last dlc for valhalla. So its confusing. And it felt rushed in the end...
@@juanpablo8886 yes november 2020 but the majority of extra contents came out in 2021. People mostly played this game in 2021. Considering a lot of games had better graphics at this time, it's disappoting how a AAA game was released with major technic problems
Ubisoft needs to come up with something innovative and creative. Everything with Valhalla is so mediocre. This DLC doesn’t make the game any more interesting.
I liked Valhalla, but very disappointed with DoR. I'm annoyed I spent money on it, it's so cumbersome and bulky in all places. uninstalled today after 2 days of annoying gameplay without fun.
Microsoft should buy Ubisoft and reset the AC franchise. Fire the people that are in charge of this game, because they are clearly doing some hard drugs.
