If there's one thing ya don't want to do in Evangelion, it's piss off Shinji. He could literally end the human race at a moments notice. He might feel guilty afterward, but he'll do it.

I can see it now, asuka vs spy, they argue over whether big chubby’s is funny or not until asuka says “you’re humour is broken” or something and spy goes “no, that would be your mother’s” and then asuka stands there for a second processing what he said, says “DUDE MY MOTHER’S FUCKING DEAD YOU BITCH” and then cries in the corner while spy laughs at her
Asuka is just projecting her massive attention kink onto shinji. She even admitted it herself, she doesn’t want shinji to “steal the joke”. Asuka feels like she’s the only one who should be able to make others laugh and get attention, and got angry when shinji tried to partake in the joke rather than making a better bond with shinji over the big Chungus thingy. This is how destructive Asuka is, despite shinji trying to reach out to her, she merely sees it as an attack on herself and rejects it, even though she was trying to make him laugh in the first place.
