You are such an inspiration. My sons used to love to read, the library was like their second home. But once they entered into high school, their friends didn’t think that it was cool, and they were bullied and physically assaulted. So it was safer for them to abandon their love of reading. In the process their homework suffered no matter how hard I tried because and I am a reader it just wasn’t cool anymore. I came across your channel and it just brought me to tears is my sons are now 21 and when I showed them your channel, I just saw my sons face light up. I actually had one of the books that you showed on your last video. I had just picked it up from the library and he looked at me and said oh my gosh that’s the same book that he has and he asked me if he could read it. Thank you so much I know this is just the tip of the iceberg but thank you for sharing your story and your love of reading.🙏🏼

It's amazing how quickly you went from "I've never bought more than one or two books at once" to not being able to pass a bookstore without buying a whole stack. Booktube has worked its magic! 😁
Hear me out -- do a video visiting your local library. I'm a librarian so maybe I'm bias 😂, but libraries really are great. You don't have to spend money for books and you can request books the library soesnt already have if there's a paritcular book you're interested in. I do most of my reading via borrowed books and only really buy books I really love. Loving your videos!
I second this! I also love to watch videos of library hauls, I feel like sometimes people take chances on books they would never usually buy when they spot them in the library 😊
Exactly. I have a library card I down load books . I can add libraries any place in the country. Then buy the ones I love. Philly has a nice book store. Library of Congress . Try HBCU or NC college Libraries. Your list will grow

It’s great to see a masc man reading and talking about romance books! I’m a woman in the trades, so I see how much ideas of what a man should and should not do affect them, limit them, and hurt their mental health, so good on you. Looking forward to more of your videos and thoughts on books! Totally going to pick up Patriarchy Blues and Why Fathers Cry at Night, those sound amazing. I’m out here trying to understand my guys better. They are making an effort to understand the experience of a woman in a male dominated industry and I wanna show my support do to the same for them.
For horror/historical fantasy I recommend Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. It’s about a group of fighters (all black women) that hunt Ku Kluxes. It takes place in Georgia in the 1920s. The author also incorporates Gullah/Geechee culture which I loved!

Sometimes I have booktok videos on while cleaning and my son always says they’re boring. Then he saw you on the screen and he actually sat down to listen! I’m always listening to women booktubers so my son was in awe to see a man talking about books. I also now really want a book marker scarf 😂, it’s so cute!

i remember in your first video you said you wanted to read more romances! if you want a black romance that is also funny then i recommend Honey & Spice by Bolu Babalola. it’s amazing and is so good at capturing parts of Black British culture, with a focus on Black Africans in Britain. the love story was just chefs kiss👏🏼

I love your excitement about the bookstore!! I know how hard it is to hold back when it comes to buying books haha. I work at a library, so I like to read library copies before I buy books! That way I’m only buying books I really love. My real weakness is secondhand books though… I can’t help myself when they’re cheap and begging for a new home

Have you read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings? It’s fairly short but beautifully written. I read it when I was 15 years old, a poor white girl growing up in the north of England and it absolutely changed my life. I’ve never connected more with a book either before or since. This book showed me how books can connect us and deepen our understanding of each other in really profound ways. I love this video btw, I love seeing people living their best lives 😊

BTW, going off the back of your 'Patriarchy Blues' pick up.... if you enjoy that, then I THOROUGHLY recommend reading 'The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love' by Bell Hooks. She's the absolute goat when it comes to radical feminism, and this book focuses almost entirely on mens place in feminism. Brilliant read.
