@@realperson69 true but he wanted specifically to flip hammer damage for lethal. In that case it is 6 mana deflecting palm. But yeah in general it’s 6 mana deflecting palm on everything.

@@Goldfisher For the purposes of this combo, the damage that Volcano Hellion deals cannot be prevented, so you do need Gideon's Sacrife because, for some reason, Deflecting Palm doesn't redirect damage, but rather prevent the damage and deal it to the source's controller. So in fact it is a double nonbo, too

@@nicolashurtado1073 right but I was specifically referring to reflecting hammer damage not the combo because that was how Seth wanted to win that particular game. I know that deflecting palm prevents then deals damage and is thus a nonbo with Hellion.

In the mill matchup, why not board out Gideon’s Sacrifice for the Chalice of the Voids? You were almost always going to have a higher life total and chalice on 1 is a little bit of hope instead of just insta scooping to the path of exile

I was thinking the same thing. Chalice on 1 stops a lot of there mill and removal.

Chalice on 3 (a bit slow to get to but not too bad for this deck) would also stop a lot of their finishers.

been working on this deck in historic for a while now. uses insult of insult//injury to double all damage, then lightning axe or chandras defeat the brash taunter, doubles once, hits taunter for 10, then doubles again on the way to their face, 20 damage to the face

I always liked how Stuffy Doll got around a hexproofed or shrouded opponent since Stuffy Doll says 'to chosen player' and not 'target player'.

I have a similar deck I’ve been working on for ages, and I found Pariah to be a better Gideons sacrifice. Two more mana I know, but allows for a permanent no damage for the rest of the game if the opponent lacks the removal. Pariah also works as removal for the opponents creatures too if you attach it to them. It’d probably be best run in conjunction to Gideons sacrifice as more options to combo with Volcano Hellion.

Pariah is another sweet option. I was a bit worried about it getting answered by Prismatic Ending which is super popular at the moment, but it still might be worth it.

The ceiling is much easier to hit in 1v1 than it is in 4 player. Floor is 3 mana rock. Ceiling is drawing 2, discarding 2, gaining 2 and having +1 Mana for the rest of the game. I think the format actually matters in the argument.

I've never seen Seth pay the 1 this many times in all of commander clash, Tomer will be proud or maybe mad, since he doesn't pay it in commander but does in 1v1

SETH: ever thought of putting more of your sideboard into your deck to fight against mill? You do need to have a decent amount of lands in your starting hand but it can work really well! I'll even put my deck up to 75 cards if all the cards are relevant in the match.

I'm amazed how good Fury ended up being. It was boo'ed when it was first spoiled, but it sees tons of play now. I always thought it'll see atleast SB play like Pyrokinesis, but it's so much better.

Stuffy Doll + Pariah + Guilty Conscience is my favorite combo. I run an Archdemon of Greed deck with that combo and it's disgusting

don't forget brash taunter can fight your creatures too, so you can target fury and 6 the opponent.

This video was made 2 years ago, and fury is banned. My first thought was lightning bolt, but unfortunately this deck likes to put chalice on 1. Instead, try subbing fury for 4 "Spitebellows". This way, you can target one of your stuffy dolls and do 6 to the face, or just use the removal like fury did.

Volcano Hellion is the wincon in my EDH Toralf stax deck! The past 3 times i cast gamble, it went to the graveyard lol. I don't play brash taunter and stuffy doll though, cmc is too high.

@MTGGoldfish I used to use Hellion to set my life total to 1 and remove a blocker before crashing in with Death’s Shadow(s). Now I just wait for opponents to tap out when I have a Nearheath Pilgrim or Whip of Erebos on field to gain infinite life. XD

I remember killing my opponent with Mogg Maniac in the old days. Cast a goblin, cast Mogg Maniac, get Furnace of Rath on the table then sac the first goblin to Goblin Bomb the maniac. That was 20 dmg to the dome.

Yes, but cards like Magnetic Theft can equip it AFTER blocks are declared.

I use to have a deck like this but it was Naya using Boros Reckoner and Hornet Nest as playoffs while working up for a Blasphemous Act or Volcano Hellion. Good times.

I think Reckoner could be good, although it is a big fragile in Modern since it dies to Lightning Bolt. I had it in the list at various points while I was working on it, but it ended up just missing the cut for the final version.

Its a small thing but on your turn at 6:57 you can play the celestus first paying one so he doesnt draw than play the helix since sentinel only triggers on the first noncreature :)

So game one against hammer time, they can't play and equip hammer without having stuffy doll block. Giver can't help here because pro colorless makes hammer fall off and they have no way to move the hammer at instant speed
