A daiquiri isn’t supposed to be super sweet. It should be cold, tangy citrus with a slug of rum. Adding something super sweet to already sweet rum would ruin it and make it nauseatingly sweet. That’s why she throws it. A extremely unsophisticated way to try to make a classic refreshing cocktail.
@@akrenwinkle What part don't you get? Honey is an invert sugar--super sweet and with its own flavor, neither of which would be palatable with rum. If you want a more technical explanation, invert sugars are a combination of glucose + fructose, while table sugar is pure sucrose. Glucose is sweeter than sucrose, and fructose is sweeter than glucose, so honey would be taste much sweeter than regular sugar. On top of that, honey is not a neutral sweetener like sugar. Honey imparts a specific flavor along with its sweetness. The combination of super sweetness plus the other flavors would render the drink cloying.
She tried the food....tuna, clam juice, and peanut butter? Sounds disgusting...Daiquiri made with honey would be cloying sweet...she tasted it and got rid of it discreetly. The Upsons and Babcock were the ignorant ones...they were enjoying the appetizers until they found out what they were and they acted chlidishly.
