I've shopped from the same brand for over 20 years. Back in 2021, I had a ton of equity and thought I could get a new car for around 5k with the equity. Well, blow me down! I went in, and the same car was almost 40k!!!! They doubled the price! They shrunk the insides, too. I was appalled more than I've ever been when he said the payment (with 18k in equity) towards the car would be 675.00 a month!!! I looked at him and said, "Are you serious!?!?! When the hell did you get too big for your britches!?!" I walked out and decided I'm driving my car another 10 years or more. I'm not doing it. I refuse to pay that much. Yeah, my car is almost 10 years old, but it runs well. Has hail dents and door malfunction, but the engine is good. I'm driving it until the wheels literally fall off. How did they think they'd get away with inflating the prices so high? I don't know, I don't deal with greed. Period. And right before I left the dealership, I looked at them and said, "You know, greed comes before the fall." I see they are starting to fall as predicted. You can only push people so far. Best bet, keep your current vehicle as long as you can.

Not all dealerships are terrible. They are only the middle man in the equation. I have a cap on the amount I would pay for a new vechile. Under $35k is my max & I will never pay $80+k for any vechile. I have 1099 jobs so I use my newer vehcile as a tax write off.

I went in for a test drive on a F150 Lightning just to make sure I felt comfortable in the truck. And typically, I don't like driving a large truck. But the F150 Lightning drove really nice and I have to admit, I like the truck. So of course they tried to work a deal. And were still working the deal. But they didn't have the exact truck I wanted. So they looked to find me one and they found me the exact truck I want but it's in Utah, and I'm in northern Colorado. So the Loveland Ford worked a deal with the dealer in Utah and they are going to have it shipped to Colorado at no expense to me. And they were really up front about the cost. Gave me the OTD price without even asking. The sales rep even mentioned about how well prepared I was. Said it was kind of fun, as he doesn't get customers who know so much. So two thumbs up for Loveland Ford in Loveland CO.

There is another way to get rid of "old" new car inventory. At one time our dealership sold Dodge alongside Honda and VW. Our dealership was crouched in a low flat area. In the spring, a heavy rain would produce a flash flood. It was all hands on deck to save the new Hondas, followed by the VWs, followed by the used cars and finally the Dodges. The last car to be plucked from the rising waters was a Dodge Conquest that was 2 model years old. Truth be told, the GM and a couple of salesman pushed the Conquest into deeper water. With tears in our eyes, the loss was reported to the insurance company.

MSRP? I have always bought new cars, and never paid anywhere close to MSRP. Find another dealer, always order the car, pay cash (find a loan elsewhere if needed), and insist on seeing the invoice. Dealers get kickbacks on top of the price listed as dealer invoice. I always pay thousands under MSRP.

Replacements For Vital Machines Must Outperform Their Predecessors To Be Universally Adopted For a new product or invention, which an EV is, to replace a tried and true significant part of our daily lives, like our cars, it has to be a better choice. How should a car replacement be better? 1) Cheaper purchase price, lifetime maintenance and disposal. 2) Better performance, road handling and driving range 3) More convenient on the road charging than gas fill up 4) Safer in all ways, including charging away from home 5) Seamless and transparent replacement for our current experience with cars. How do EVs stack up in those five categories? 1) EVs are more expensive than gas-powered vehicles. Overall costs over time are much higher for EVs. Even if they were cheaper, the current negative impacts of the loss of convenience and functionality make EVs not worth replacing our cars with experimental replacements. Government subsidies paid to corporations and individuals approach $50,000 per EV. An EV is less functional, yet more expensive? Who thought of this great system? 2) EVs have much higher average horsepower, but other than that the driving experience is not much different and is sometimes deficient. Range anxiety is real and total miles available on a full charge falls terribly behind a full tank of gas. 3) Gas stations are much safer, more convenient and time saving than EV charging stations. This is the most important variable, and the EVs fail miserably here. 4) The level of danger using an unmanned EV charging station at night in a deserted parking lot is not tenable, compared to gas stations which have personnel, lights and security cameras. 5) EVs are not a cheaper, more functional replacement for our cars. EVs fail on almost every measure. This certainly does not make a great case for EVs. Using EVs dramatically changes your entire driving experience, one of the most important parts of our daily lives. There are so many unanswered questions about the impact on us if the government were to ban gas-powered vehicles in favor of EVs. Mandating EVs will change our way of life. As with other government experiments in the recent past, they want us to be the test subjects. I propose we opt out of this government experiment and all others in the future.

Scotty Killmer blames it on the flat engine design and sez there cvt's are poor quality. If you buy it get the extended warrentee. I replaced mine with a 2004 malibu with 125K miles and got another 150K out of it .The $2.5 K pos car outlasted the $25K outback. The body metal was thin on the outback and plastic interior broke in several places and seats stained from water bottle sweat. It had a horrible blindspot. Another thing was every 30,000 miles they hit you up for $800-1400 mandatory service .

Once again, Ray is 100% correct! Service contracts aren't the reason they have negative equity; rather, it's because the automobiles don't justify the high MSRPs or ADMs they paid for them. They were reckless and they wanted an automobile.

QUESTION: Regarding the money a dealer pays for the floorplan. Do the payments increase the equity on the individual vehicle they have in inventory and will the dealer at some point, own the vehicle outright if they kept it long enough? Is it simply interest only? Or, a bit of both?

MSRPs have skyrocketed in the last few years. Discounts on lower-end cars have shriveled up. Buying a new car, any new car, is unobtanium for me now. I have no choice but to hold out until the market turns in consumers' favor, even if that means waiting a few years. It's a matter of necessity. I think until that becomes a big enough reality for enough consumers, we won't see adjustments to MSRPs and the huge discounts of yesteryear. They've realized that enough consumers are willing to finance for longer to offset paying inflated prices and forego discounts. Well, I'm not desperate enough to fall into that trap and I'm financially savvy enough to not finance for longer.

We just bought a new 23' Prime. Got it for 40k after a $4500 trade in for an 09 Corolla Sport with 130k miles. It needed a new catalytic and trans but still drives fine. My guess is parts are worth a lot more than if they fixed n resold. I got a better rate by going through my local bank vs dealer financing. 6% 5 yrs. I can refi easier if rates go down. Amortization is better, I'll pay a little extra each month on my own to bring down principal. My bankers said they never saw a loan get approved so fast. They're looking to offset bad debt with good debt right now, so if you can do something similar, nows the time to see what you can get. They're slowing down manufacturing, and the strikes are going to dry up stock for up to a year, possibly. Timing is good, prices won't go down much from here on electric vehicles, likely to go up

Maybe you didn't get the memo, but people are now aware of the scam that is being played out with the whole EV market. Nobody is buying EVs anymore and the people who did are trading them back in for gas cars. It costs the same to charge an EV as it does to fill your car with gas. But the biggest problem with the EVs is that most people end up waiting in lines for hours just to get their EV charged which takes a supercharger about an hour on average to charge. That's if they can even find a working charging station because most of them are out of service when you show up to charge that EV. So people are driving from one station to another and some just run out of power before finding a working one. EVs don't work for people who drive a lot every day because those people don't have 2 or 3 hours every day to just waste searching for a working charger or just sitting in a parking lot waiting for their turn to charge your car so that you can get home. It only takes about a month of dealing with that crap before you realize that you made a horrible decision buying that glorified golf cart and for way more money than you would pay for a gas car. These EVs are just draining people of all of their money and time as well. These EVs are not even built to last very long with the average life span being about 6 years before you will be forced to spend up to 20k just to replace that EV's battery so that you can drive it 150 miles on one charge again. And you only get 150 miles per charge if you are driving very slow with no AC on or any other convenience like your radio or your lights because that changes the distance that EV is capable of driving to be a lot less than 150 miles per charge. This whole EV thing doesn't even do anything good to save the environment and nobody can afford them which is why car manufacturers stopped producing them now. Dealers don't have room on their lots so these cars are being stored in the middle of the desert by the thousands. People realized these EVs are just a scam to drain the people of any money they might have left in their bank accounts and nobody wants to fall into that trap now. I wouldn't take one if they tried to give it to me just because my time is worth more than what it would take for me to charge that thing every day. Even if they installed 10 more times the chargers in this country it wouldn't be enough and they will never do that because they need these chargers to be scarce so that they can keep raising the prices to use their chargers. You don't save any money driving an EV because it costs the same as you would pay to fill your car with gas right now and those prices are definitely going to go up. And there will be a new thing called parking lot rage in the future. That rage will be far worse once people start to fight to use a charger because there is no line while you wait for an available charger. People just park nearby and it won't be long before you start to see people lose their minds when they feel that they are next in line to use a charger. You can't make a person wait for 3 or 4 hours in a parking lot every day and not expect that it's not going to create some violence when there is any dispute that would make a person wait even longer than that just to be able to drive home. I live in LA and it's hard to find a charger that works with no line even at 3am. My girlfriend fell into this trap and I feel bad for her that she has to wake up at 2:30am and start driving around looking for an empty charger every day. She is not a happy camper anymore because she gets maybe 3 hours of sleep every day now since she splurged and bought that crappy car. People will not be buying new cars for a very long time now choosing to just hold on to their gas cars because it will be cheaper no matter the price of gas. I wouldn't even consider buying a newer gas car now since those cars are all made like crap compared to the gas cars they built in the 90s that if you took care of them they will drive a million miles with very little maintenance and most of it you can do yourself. The money I'm saving driving my 95 Toyota truck still allows me to save my money for other things still and I still get my 8 hours of sleep every night and never have to worry about whether or not I will get to my destination on time. I pay practically nothing on insurance for that car and I paid it off 23 years ago. No car payments since. I drive that truck everywhere and I always feel confident that it will never break down on me and I know It will never be sitting in some mechanic garage for weeks while they try to diagnose what sensor is causing all the problems that prevent me from driving it. I never have any lights on my dashboard telling me that I need to have my car seen by the dealer so that they can extract thousands of dollars from my account and not fix the problem forcing me to come back and do that again like all the newer cars are always doing today. My 92 Mazda Miata is just as good and it costs me maybe $30 a month to operate it and it's always been trouble-free. You will not find a more reliable car built than cars that were built in the early 90s period. You will guarantee be paying more to drive your car if it was built after the year 95 because 96 and up were all required to have ODB2 ports and they all started putting sensors and making cars way too electronic starting in 96. And cars just kept getting worse every year after 96 with today's cars being no better than a disposable Bic lighter now. They are not built to last and they will cost you way more money than cars built before 96. So I will drive my old cars till I die or they stop producing gas for cars and then I will just choose to walk or not go at all because I will not be the chump who pays outrageous amounts of money to drive a car in this country. I will just move to another country that hasn't lost its mind and is trying to screw over its people like this. I work hard for my money and I'm not going to just piss it away so that I can say I have a new car. There is nothing to be proud of when you say that today. That just tells me you are a chump and a fool willing to blow your money on anything and not a smart person at all. Why anyone would be willing to put themselves in such a large debt for something that depreciates faster than you can pay it off just tells me that person is a fool and I will be laughing all the way to the bank because I am not in debt and I have a reliable car still that I paid off over 20 years ago. These new vehicles are no better than my vehicle and just as safe. Why are they building all these cars with all these ridiculous safety features that nobody needs if they know how to actually drive their cars. How lazy are people now that they need their cars to drive for them. It's really pathetic and it says a lot about the younger generation these days who feel entitled to everything without having to work for it themselves. They are so lazy that I'm sure they will build something to tie their shoes and wipe their asses for them next. I wonder why they are still so stupid to pursue college with the amount of money it costs to go there now. They should have clearly said screw you to that college and found a way to earn a living without it. Now they are whining that they are 75k in debt when they get out of college and they still can't find a job so they just go home to Mom and Dad who are stupid enough to let them back in instead of saying no you need to figure this out yourself. They learn nothing if you just bail them out with every bad decision they make. They were adults when they decided to take on that debt and it's up to them to find a way to pay it off or they will just keep on making more bad decisions and sticking their parents with the bill. What would those kids do without their parents there to help them through their stupid mistakes? Nobody was there for me and I would never have asked my parents for help after I was 18. I knew I was on my own and I made sure that I thought things through before making any big decisions that I might regret later on.

About being upside down in car loans. I had a 2011 Optima 274,000 km, it was using 2 liters of oil between oil changes. They only continue to go down hill from there, and it's not worth getting a used engine because it will be having issues of it's own. Then there is the cvt trans that should be seviced early in its life, but KIA will tell you not to touch. It's bad cars like these that help put people upside-down in their car loans because they can't afford the repair bill so they flip into a new loan on another car just to maintain a set monthly payment. Not saying it's right, it's just what they do.

Ray, what every buyer is looking for is to be paying the right price. By that I mean, they don't want to find out that the same day they bought their car from the dealer another buyer got the same thing for a better deal. No one wants to feel taken advantage of. Even though Tesla's prices change from time to time, you know what the price will be when you order it. Takes about 4 minutes. No hassle . .

Usually can figure it out if you can see the Card as report that shows the history of when the car arrives at first dealer, when it was first bought, where it was first registered and where, and when it is sold back to a dealer, and when it is put on the lot for sale again.
