This painting was accomplished using transparent watercolors on a quarter sheet ( 11” x 15”) of 140 lb cold press Lanaquarelle watercolor paper. The colors used were Royal Blue. Mauve, Quinacridone Coral, Pyrrole Red, Quinacridone Gold, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre, Sap Green. I also used a very fine mist spray bottle made by Atelier. If you learned from and enjoyed this demonstration be sure to like, subscribe, and turn on your post notifications. I’m often asked questions about the materials and equipment I use in my painting process. To make this information readily available, I’ve posted a comprehensive list on the studio page of my website. The list details the materials that I use most often. Here is the link to my studio page. rsurowiczart.co... Also, don't forget to visit my website and follow me on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for watching!

This helped understand how to take this process to paper as it's similar to how I used to do some of my leather carving and tooling designs. I was a bit surprised that the finished painting looked so different from the one worked on with a good deal more gold in it and much less purple.

I'm watching Autumn in the Trees right now. I've never tried Negative Painting. Your tutorials make it look easier than I'm sure it is. But they also make me want to give it a try. I'm new to watercolor painting, about 11/2 years. I'm afraid I'm a very straight-line, paint every branch kind of person. I'm really trying to get away from that and your painting takes me there! Keep on painting!!

This was a beautifully done tutorial on watercolor. You shared a great deal of information that came from knowing much about art. You have a nice voice and I thought this was a great learning exercise. I never saw a fine mister used to establish the beginning washes, as you worked here and there, on the paper. And I've never heard of "Royal Blue". What brand is that? In closing, I really enjoyed watching this.
@RickSurowiczWatercolor
@RickSurowiczWatercolor 6 лет назад
Hi Kelli, Sorry for the delay responding. I didn't get notified on several comments. I appreciate your wonderful feedback !!! I like the of the effects I can get with the fine mist sprayer. Royal Blue is a Holbein color. It's the pigment PB60 which, under other brands is known as Indanthrone blue, Indanthrene blue, and Delft Blue. Glad you liked the video !

The royal blue I use is a Holbein color available at Blicks, Cheap Joe's or any store that carries Holbein. You could use something like Indanthrone blue, Delft Blue or Indigo.

Dude! I understand that you're a pro and probably sell paintings at a premium, but what about us folks that are just painting for the joy of it? What would you put your stamp on for more affordable brushes and paper. I simply, as a student, can't afford the best of the best for anything.I get that you're showing what you use, but how about some cheaper alternatives for the rest of us?

Also, without seeing the sketch, applying masking fluid makes no sense if we don't know where you're intending to paint or not. I mean, come on! if you're going to make a tutorial that's accessible to all, then explain. Even though I don't have experience in watercolor because I dropped it 30 years ago, that doesn't mean that I've not worked in acrylic and oil. So many things missing from this tutorial. So much assumption. While this style could be available to all levels, it seems very difficult.
