another underrated bike was the 78 hondamatic hawk... semi automatic... damn dependable daily driver... nearly no maintenance... I took it hunting, fishing, used it as a daily from the mountains of Montana to the shores of Mississippi
Great find. It makes me remember when I got my first bike after my 1st marriage. A 76’ Honda XL175. Great little bike. Had gremlins like yours, but a little time and effort and it purred like a kitten. Worked my way up to a Suzuki M50 Boulevard. That was a sweet ride and easy to handle with the larger front tires. All bikes are gone now, but were a blast to ride though. Enjoy your bike and be safe. Not sure if they offer the MSF course in Canada like they do in NY. That’s how I got my license.
They do offer courses for this- I've spoken to a local friend who's been riding for some years. Gotten some leads and tips from him. Looks like they're running a course about 15 minutes away from me.
Most likely original miles, my 86 1100 shadow only has 26,000 miles, 10,000 was added this year finally! I owned it since new but never got to ride it being an owner operator truck driver for 20 years. **** check out a vid for Seal Mate for your forks, just a thin piece of plastic you can make yourself.... much easier than replacing seals!!
Thanks! Just watched it. Interesting! Might give it a go. I'm a bit concerned about how much oil may have been lost over time- but so far I know absolutely nothing for sure. I appreciate the tip!
@@DocSprocket I had one start puking oil each time I rode it, I cut a piece out of a soda bottle, cleaned the seals and it stopped leaking so it's definitely worth a try.
@@DocSprocket I have an Intruder VL1500. Not a fast bike, but great for a pair of heavier riders. Rides kinda stiff solo. Downside is the tank is only 3 gallons.
Get rid of those pointy handlebar tips man. Love the bike otherwise, you got a fixer upper for a good deal and actually are getting it done which is awesome.
Yeah, I'm not nuts about the grips, either. I'm going to have to take a look around and see what I can find. They're sharp enough that they may actually fail the inspection!
reminds me or porkey pig at the end of the video .. looks like a great bike ,, oh by the way it don't cut grass it does not go threw mud .. be safe out there .. I have seen cars pull in front of bikes also seen bikes passing where they should not be passing cars .. just be carful and enjoy ..
When I really learned to ride on my friend's Shadow years ago, it was an eye-opener. I used to think there was a bunch of idiots on the road, then I learned to ride- and found out it's nothing BUT idiots on the road!
@@DocSprocket I worked for a repair service ..for years ,, was on the road going to people's homes . NY and PA .lots of miles ..seen a lot wish I did not see some of it .. how can people be such idiots ..
I'm not sure if bikes are the same way as cars, but any discrepancy with the Odometer may throw a red flag. If it has a mechanical gauge, it could have easily been tampered with.
I don't have any reason to believe it's been played with. These odometers only read tens of thousands. If it gets past 99,999 then it goes back to 00000. The question is whether it has done that. The paint wear is pretty substantial but I have read that this particular paint was pretty delicate. Nothing else on the bike seems excessively worn.
