From a loyal Hoyt carbon guy, I was impressed enough with the V3X 29 and Phase 4 33 to purchase both of them within a couple of months of one another. Hard to question the accuracy and solid feel of both of them. I agree with most of your points but disagree with the quality and durability rating. It's purely speculation and lots of Matthews guys are rooting for this bow to fail. I don't get it? It's a tool just like my truck. I change the oil and maintain all my equipment. If you want things to last you have to check up on a few things from time to time. Maybe my Phase 4 will not hold up in the field. Time will tell. All my Hoyts are loud as heck. I'm enjoying the peaceful backyard target practice more than anything and I am shooting longer and just as accurately. Your reviews are yours as you've always said. You should have lots more followers. Great content and I enjoy how you format your testing. Best of luck in '23!

The best honest Mathews review I've seen, your the only person that's pointed out 8 Extra screws in the Limbs. Everyone else only talks about the Inline Technology which takes Less Screws. So Actually they've added more screws than you would have without the Inline Technology. Thankyou for taking the time and sharing...👍👍

I'll hit the double nickel in June, so my intention is to buy the Triple X as well as the Phase 4 for as a present to myself. I have been shooting since I was 16 on and off. I seriously reentered the archery world in '06 with Bowtech. I bought the flagship bows until '08. In the Holiday season of that year I bought my first Mathews, the Monster. I haven't looked at any other bow company since....... I enjoyed the video.......

I am thinking that maybe there should be a tunability category in the evaluation. The new Mathews would score very low due to top hat cam shims, module specific draw weight and let off, non-adjustable cable guard, past parallel limbs (can't use my trusty portable bow press), must remove cams to change yoke strings. Other brands now have screw fine-adjustable cam tuning, 1/4" increment rotating module DL adjustment, let off fine adjustment, easy string/cable changing, adjustable cable guards, etc.
@BackyardBows
@BackyardBows Год назад
I think that is a solid suggestion
@justinshaw5541
@justinshaw5541 Год назад
I agree with all of that except the DL adjustment. I love their draw length mods. But then again I'm a one set type of person, I don't mess with my DL once it's set. From my Halon 6 to my Traverse, to now my Phase 4 I have not once change my DL from what was set at the time of purchase.
@drmitofit2673
@drmitofit2673 Год назад
@@justinshaw5541 But many people complain that Mathews bows draw lengths run 1/2" long. This can be corrected/adjusted in 1 minute at no additional cost on every other brand (only the Prime Revex going backwards with DL specific mods). Also if you buy a used Mathews not in your DL, you are taking a bit of a risk in your mods being available and/or those mods when they arrive being 1/2" too long. Or what if one buys a different style release or simply wants to experiment with DL adjustment or let off adjustment? Mathews would score very low in an adjustment/tunability category.
@justinshaw5541
@justinshaw5541 Год назад
@@drmitofit2673 That’s why you get it set at the shop. Your dl isn’t going to change unless you’re still growing. If you buy secondhand then make sure you do research to find out if the bows typically run long then buy accordingly.

For years the I shot my bow with only one stabilizer out the front and also though the back bars and V bars look kind of stupid and overkill, was just my opinion. 3 years ago I tried adding a back bar just to see and it has totally Changed my mind. My bow feels so much more stable at full draw and it helped me tighten up my groups. Now I will never go back, even though I still don’t like the way it looks. I want the best accuracy and all the advantages I can have and afford.

I’m watching this now and I guarantee you have changed your mind and it wouldn’t surprise me if you sold your v3x and got a phase 4. The phase 4 is the new system. It’s the system of the future and it’s the system all Mathews bows will have from here on out. I’m sorry but it is what it is. There is no aluminum bolt and epoxy on the stabilizer to defeat the purpose of “quieting” the bow, You can literally harmonically tune these bows it’s so simple it should have been thought of a long time ago and as a Mathew’s fan I’m happy there the first ones to invent it. It’s a more solid simple system and actually works! And a true test would have the back bar, the whole system is what makes it special, it’s so compact and the back bar isn’t in the way and literally makes it rock solid and harmonically tuned

Just to hear your thoughts, Does quietness really matter or does speed? I know both do, but how much of a difference does it really really make in relation to the speed and accuracy of todays bows for a 30 yard shot if a deer is not alerted already. In relation to the deer jumping the string. How quiet can it be to matter, to be when a deer can hear a twig snap a mile away? I am interested in the quietness compared to other bows, another channel tested the ERA and it was as low in DB as the Mathews. I mean if the mathews is 80 DB, and a deer can still react and locate a sound as low as 40 DB, that deer is still going to subconciously and automatically react. Saying all that, I am torn between the Elite and Mathews, I know I cant go wrong with ether, but feel the Mathews is going to nickle and dime me to death. Sorry for the horrible run ons, have to type and run. Your most appreciated thoughts...
@BackyardBows
@BackyardBows Год назад
Havnt shit the era yet, I get to pick it up we’d so I’ll have to circle back, but in my experience at 30 yards sound does not matter when you reach a certain speed (which most bows these days are well past), once you get to 45-50 yards sound can factor in more

@@tsi-rocket4144how are they falling behind?
@tsi-rocket4144
@tsi-rocket4144 10 месяцев назад
@@mikestackz854 First I will not argue how well mathew's bows shoot and is why I still have mine. Mathew's is innovative with accessories, and the switch weight mods but haven't offered ease of tuning/draw length, or letoff adjustments(they offer it but you have to buy more stuff). Myself and two ppl I know moved away from mathew's this year, will this matter to mathew's?, I doubt it. It started for me with mathew's zebra strings being total and complete garbage. The zebra strings on my mathew's were totally trashed @500 shots while my elite strings still look good and are about to eclipse 4000 shots. Bow's are expensive/I'm not made of money and I shoot daily which means I need strings to last and I need to be able to tune the bow. I also find after shooting a new bow I need to adjust my draw length at times, I have 4 bows and only two are the same draw length on a draw board. This isn't something I can figure out with a test at the bow shop, I find it after shooting a couple hundred arrows, maybe its me but I'm OCD with my bows. With mathew's I have to add new strings as soon as I buy the bow bc the zebra strings are not worth my time so +125-180$ for strings plus the time and money to setup the bow(buddy just had strings put on and it was 225$ out the door with bow setup at a shop). Mathew's phaze 4 in my area is 1300$+new strings@125$=1425$. Tuning the mathew's I had to buy a top hat kit + 60$, and a different draw length module +60$. So I'm at 1585$ and that doesn't include the press fee's at a shop to change the top hats, install the strings or setup the bow after the strings. I diy all my bow work so its different for me but not everyone has a press&draw board or knows how to tie d-loops/peeps or tune a bow. Then we get into the accessories for mathew's which are really sweet but not when a single stabilizer is 250$ vs a front/side bar kit with qd mount for 230 or under. And the rubber between the limbs I feel will eventually fail, which if the original buyer keeps the bow will be under warranty but if the bow is sold to someone else then its in a grey area from what a local shop told me. If someone buys a bow, sights it in, shoots mechanical broadheads, hunts, and then hangs it until next season then mathew's will work perfect for you. Or if you don't mind the added expenses of running a mathew's as a daily shooter than you will be happy. I'd rather buy an elite for 1200$, shoot the hell out of it, and have no issues other than the draw weight dropping and having to twist the cables after 4000 shot which is pretty normal with any bow that gets used a lot. My elite maintained the same cam time/no peep rotation to 3500 arrows, I twisted the cables at that point to get my poundage from 68 back up to 71 and after shooting it a bit to settle the cables I put half a twist in one cable to sync the cams. Its a cost efficiency/tunability thing for me. I can tune my elite with an allen wrench(Ive never used the SET tuning option but its there if I ever need it), I can adjust my draw length in 1/4" increments with simple tools, and my letoff can be adjusted from 70-90% with simple tools. I'm not brand loyal by any means shooting hoyt, mathew's, and elite and am looking into athen's, PSE, and bowtech for my potential next bow. I want an easily tunable bow, with a lot of adjustability with simple tools with good strings. When mathew's offers adjustability/tuning options that I don't have to spend money to do this and put decent strings on the bow I will add mathew's to my list of bows to look at or if I really want the mathew's I have to consider the added expense's. I could write a book about my bad experience with two hoyt's as well but that's for another day.

I completely agree with your review. I think its a great bow but I also think there is a lot of hype. This is coming from a V3X owner so I am not a Mathews hater. They didnt really listen to their customers complaints. I dont know anyone who likes the grip. I dont know anyone that said wow those Mathews are loud and vibrate a lot. In my mind they have a solution to a non-existent problem with the 8 limbs. In which I agree it leaves more room for defects or issue. It also appears to be a money grab for proprietary stabs.
