This is from online concert Feb. 11, 2021. The song is a love letter from the band that they wrote to their fans. Just before singing the song Saiki talked about the struggles of the band over the past year. Here is the English translation of what she said. It gives more meaning to the song and how they felt. Saiki: We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet. And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you. That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan. We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now. Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.

The sadness of the missed Budokan debut mixed with appreciation and hope for the future. Miku did a great job on the lyrics and Saiki interpreted them perfectly. A truly awesome and wonderful performance. They are, at this point in time, the best band on the planet. They will undoubtedly play Budokan...and the entire Dome Tour. They deserve it, because they earned it through musicianship, showmanship, and perseverance.

This track is a gift for all the fans (Maidiacs!) and was to be played at Budokan on Feb 11th as a surprise. However the concert was cancelled so they live screened a 2 and a half hour plus concert on the same date including this track, with Saiki giving an emotional speech before they played it. The whole concert plus extras has been recorded on DVD/Blu-ray and will be released on May 26th....mine is already pre-ordered.

Akane is in charge of managing an electronic PAD (which is on the left of her gear). Band Maid uses numerous effects in their songs (synths, third guitars, backing vocals) and they are pre-recorded. As with RUSH, they use so many instrumental layers that they should hire multiple backup musicians for each performance. The best songs to enjoy on the prerecorded synth (composed and played by Kanami) can be Puzzle and Moratorium from their 2017 concert at Shinkiba Studio Coast.

I have listened and watched to this song and video like 15 times since it released. It is so hauntingly beautiful and reading the lyrics just makes you understand how much Band-Maid appreciates and loves their fans. As a musician myself, this song touches me because of not being able to be with your fans or loved ones because of the COVID-19. Great reaction, love your breakdown of all the different instruments and sounds you hear in the music., 👍👍

I think another reactor pointed this out, but it's worth focusing hard on what Kanami is doing - it's dialed way down in the mix but she's actually doing a lot. One of the beautiful things about the maids is that you just don't tire of their songs because of all the detail. Always something new that you hear. And yes Misa's bass lines are just wonderful in this - all the open space really helps to bring the bass out to the front. And do I even need to talk about Saiki?! Post produced but I don't care and can't wait for the Blu-Ray coming out in May of this show!

This song has great lyrics by Miku Kobato. Their message to fans who can't meet because of COVIT-19. Let's build a future In this emerald world. It’s alright! See, we are all here. No one is alone. Fly more... I did. Good old days, Ooh... ‘Thank you’ ★ This song is a remixed version of the net live on February 11th. Since English lyrics can be displayed, it can be converted into various languages. and There are English and Japanese lyrics in the explanation of the recent official video. Many Japanese fans shed tears when they heard this song and thank them. ★ On May 26th, they will release a remastered DVD / Blu-ray of online live 28 songs on February 11th. There are live performances of the latest 10 songs.

Since 2014, nearly everyday, I've said, "I need some Band-Maid." One of the only rare days in seven years that I haven't listened to Band-Maid at home or in the car was the day I went to see them live! "About Us" is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA unleash grace, power and drive that fits squarely within her favorite style of music she so enjoys playing. Stretch Band-Maid... Stretch with all your might. We're behind you 100! Their new DVD/BD/CD of this incredible concert has been ordered! Thanks, Chris, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!

Imagine that, a real hard rock band that can play Jazz walking bass lines on a ballad, unlike so many of the KPop or Jpop idol bands that use professional session players.

@Charles T. Velten To me, this is where musicians from all genres meet to appreciate the craftsmanship that is Band Maid. When I see and hear Misa play runs that are familiar to me in my genre, as a Jazz influenced bass player, I kinda "cries," Po!
@fastskipper777
@fastskipper777 3 года назад
@@JK-tz6kk I used to listen to a lot of Jazz and Fusion Jazz in my high school years: (my hero) Masayohsi Takanaka, Larry Carlton, Al Di Meola, George Benson, chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, etc. I am kind of spoiled for good bass lines. I love good bass lines. And I can hear MISA always doing something interesting in the background. The reason I got into Band-Maid was because of MISA and her bass intro during the "Play" LIVE clip at 2017 Shinkiba Studio COAST concert clip which was taken down from RU-vid. That set really surprised me. And yes, I've seen Flee doing his thing. But, MISA is just so beautiful when she is playing. Ironically, my favorite member is Kanami.

@@fastskipper777 In high school in the late 70's, we either played, "Breezin," Stairways to Heaven," or "Europa," and, of course, tried to emulate Chicago, Earth, Wind and Fire, Loggins and Messina etc. Then got into to Al, Paco, and John, and Medeski, Martin and Woods. Corea brought Avishai Cohen. Clarke opened the door to Marcus Miller etc. I missed the Hard Rock train probably because I never knew how to hold down a steady rock beat as a bass player. Everything was syncopated in my brain clock. As an old guy, I began to play with old rock drummers in church, and I've learned to lock-in with their Rock kick. Enter Band Maid, I see everything I loved in the 70's and 80's in them, and I'm learning from many of you about classic rock to pop punk to metal etc. BTW, not so ironically, I'm looking into getting a PRS SE Paul's guitar. In the beginning, we all were guitar players. I volunteered to play bass and here we are. I quickly learned in the military that you don't volunteer for anything. So, Kanami had lit the fire in this old fart (might be a big blue flame-out). But, that yellow cigarette smoke, banged up, Black cloud TRAD Master Beta J5 looks so inviting. What to do, Po! Maybe, I should just be the happy Maidiac fanboy that I am and worship at the "Beam God" altar, Po!
@hiawatha.g
@hiawatha.g 3 года назад
With you there. My college soundtrack was jazz and fusion bands, and I got spoiled. As much as I love rock, lots of average musicians can be in the game, while you have to be really seriously good to have any credibility in jazz (or classical). Band-Maid have classical and jazz in their blood and you hear it in all of their work. 100+ songs, no duds, no repeats, it's actually crazy.
@JK-tz6kk
@JK-tz6kk 3 года назад
@@hiawatha.g I'm convinced that it's the Japanese compulsory music requirements in primary school and beyond, such as Akane, Misa and Kanami's training in piano, trombone, guitar etc. I think that in primary school they must learn two instruments. I've followed Kyoto Tachibana Senior High school marching band for many years and follow a few of them in their professional careers. Many of the graduates have discovered IG, Twitter and YT. So, now they share their compulsory music up-bringings. I kinda like the saying (paraphrasing, of course)," there's always a Japanese kid that can play better than you can." That's how I felt about Jazz and classical. So, I gave up. Band Maid, I think are just starting to get comfortable in their skin. They are highly technical and proficient at their musicianship and song writing. As a musician, I enjoy that. But, they are beginning to tug at this one's soul. Cries, Po! I hope I have enough digits in my life to experience the full transformation and enlightenment, without the need for psychedelics, Po! Maybe some Beam God, Po! As a side note, in University, as a cell molecular bio guy, I was always fascinated by the bio-economist guys (yes, there is a craft of such). They always think out of the box. Put a PRS in their hands and you get Kanami, (be it she is a "regular" economic major but still the same) and the +100 "no duds" songs. That's my scientific observation, Po!

Should no one have mentioned it until here, the full concert release was announced along with this video. It will be on DVD & BR at the end of May. The Pre-orders are open, and I can only say so much: It is worth every cent! 'About Us' is indeed a song that screams 'emotion' both from the very soulful and detailed instrumentation and especially the vocals. I already had this feeling before I had the lyrics translated for me understandably at hand. And when that was the case and I saw this performance, it was only more clearly the case. The fact that the girls themselves had a lump in their throats at times during the performance is imo very understandable. I think many of us viewers of the concert didn't feel any different at that moment. And when they unpacked the song 'Daydreaming' directly afterwards, I was completely done with everything. It may not be as calm as 'About Us', but it still falls into the category of calm and emotional, and is also my personal favorite from these ladies. So it's not the first time they've ventured into this territory, and there are other very nice examples with e.g. 'Wonderland' or 'Page'. But this song here is with its lyrics from an emotional point of view of course perhaps the best of them all. For me, it's definitely one of their masterpieces. And I'll never get tired of saying, that we can't thank them enough for everything they do! Thanks for another video on Band-Maid and the support that continues with it! 【 'Our rock never dies ever, forever!' - Band-Maid 】

The Maids have brilliant engineers and producers. Both in the studio and live. A lot of input in the mix with additional double dubbed backing vocals plus all the effects here. Saiki and Miku just fill the song so well. Yes the combination really is heavenly. Agreed it is a beautiful beautiful song. It's a relaxing soothing song for the soul. Where Band Maids shines. Write songs like this. (It's the band fans separation piece) then contrast it with something like Rinne. The diversity. Very unique. Akane is ghosting a lot here. All so variable too. Misa is all over frets. Mids and highs most of the time. Then the classic slides. Kanami definitely held back in the mix but she's still not playing a standard acoustic melody. Creativity is still the name of the game for The Maids in a song that could easily have had none. The band deserve to do well and The Pony in Pony Canyon is giving them a good shot marketing the band. Their new label is doing a great job releasing so many clips of their singles. 5 in 3 months now. Fair budget on Warning. 3 on the latest album in Unsen World. Then there's the 2 virtual performances. Only more reviewers like you to promote the band. They have a substantial fan base which is all set to grow quickly with more publicity.

@philcalvino884 3 года назад
Akane's drums (especially bass, but even toms) were very low in the mix throughout the entire live stream. A song like this is a walk in the park for Akane, so I'm sure it's all her. But there definitely was some audio remixing for the MV and the future DVD/Blu-ray. As others have observed there were also times when Saiki moved the mic a little too far from her head and the volume dropped; but all that was fixed as well.
@philipcable7518

The group had some technical issues with equipment and sound on the live stream. This has some post production to iron out a few things. You can take it to the bank that Akane hit everything as an when she should have. On the live Saiki's vocals where also too far back and she had problems with her earphone.
