Don't forget, only turn n half out on idle no more, when synchronising, bring the carb with more suck down to the other with less,my question, what do the air screws with the jam nut do and how to tune?
Nice video and build. In the Weber manual on pre- tuning Weber 44idf it says to screw throttle screws all the way in ( gently) the screw out 3 full turns ? Any idea why generally I only turn out 1.5 turns.
I'm about to put a pair of Dellortos on my 914, can you tell me whether it matters which orientation the carbs go on, I'm using the Tangerine kit as you have and I've seen it installed on the firewall side rather than the transmission side, so I'm unsure which is best for tuning and whether throttle cable length is an issue? Thanks
That's not a Tangerine kit... they made their kit based on my design. :) But, to answer your question, there should be no issue with mounting the carbs the other way as long as fuel line routing and linkage mounting all works. I know that on the Webers, the mounting flanges are directional, but if you're going to fab up your own intake manifolds, you can orient them how you want. Good luck!
I don't really know if the type 4 fits into a bug well. I mean, I'm sure you can make *anything* fit for a price, but I don't know if this is the best choice. :)
If one plug is drastically different from the others, I'd say you have something major going on - like a clogged fuel jet or something plugging up the air circuit.
Van Svenson so I started the vw and dumped more than half carb cleaner product down the breather... got my webers tuned... now its ready. guess #1 was dirty pistons n valves some how.
I have a Craftsman with a dial on it to adjust the advance. (E.g. you can turn the dial to 7 degrees advance and the light will flash so the mark shows up in the right place.)
Van Svenson I have a 2.0L and my advance is 27 degrees. so if I use a timing light with the advance feature I can dial in 27 degrees, rev to 3500 rpm and use the TDC mark to adjust timing? would that advance timing light make it so I don't need to mark 27degrees BTDC?
Ive adjusted the valves starting at TDC (what I believe was exactly TDC) for cylinder #1 and worked my way around, double and triple checking. The car runs really well now and backfiring out of exhaust is pretty much non existent. I have not checked dwell or timing (I have the tools/gauges now) and I dont have any marks on the fan...suggestions? seems to run fine when I rev the engine, does the dwell and timing need to be adjusted? Im just afraid to mark the fan at TDC when im not completely sure.
If it's running well, you're probably close! Might not be worth messing with... One advantage of the adjustable timing light is that you can use it to help "find" the timing mark on the fan. It's probably no more than just a little groove in the material... With corrosion and dirt on it...
