I always do a pre winter drive checks on my car before we head out on a trip, and our family trips up north is no exception.
In this Land Rover Drive Pre Winter Trip Checks video I show you the simple and basic things I always check before heading out on a longer trip.
Since it is a winter pre check I added some extra info for you who is not familiar with the cold temps we get here in the north.
I hope you enjoyed this video and the info, and if you did then be sure to help me and the channel out with subscribing and liking the video.
And hit me up with questions in the comment section, I answer every comment. 😉
Thanks and best wishes to you,
Simon Schybaj Mastermo 👍😊

ALL YOU NEED, is these basic checks, if your car is in good shape. 😊 Norway is cold so get your fluids diluting correct and you should be good in any car. 👍😊 Good tires and a good winter service and you are set, just remember to pack a lot of clothes. 🥶🥶 Best, Simon

Hi Simon, I have a Solar panel permanently installed on my hood, battery is always topped off even during our dark winters. Cheers, Bob & Jill

Hi Bob and Jill. 👋 I have thought about mounting a permanent solar panel, but never thought of putting it on the bonnet. But thinking now that the bonnet is just holding dead space above it, it would be smart to put a thin one as a service charger for the main starter battery. 👍 How’s the wind noise and snow/ice build up? Or maybe you got the flat glue on type. Best, Simon

Great video! I would also clean the windshield and windows, and then coat them with water repellent coatings like RainX or any brand you like. Get the battery and alternator tested is also good, here in the US places like autozone will do it for free.

Hey and happy new year! And great tips, a good clean windshield, and mirrors, is something you don't think of before they are way dirty. I have never coated them so should test something out for sure. A alternator and battery test is also very smart tip, I wonder how they do that, I usually measure the current while the car is running. Best, Simon

It will be interesting to see version 2 of your rear drawers. I've never seen windshield washer fluid in bags, however, here in Ontario, Canada we do have milk in bags. Surprised the washer fluid was only rated to -18*C. Ours is generally -35 to -45*C unless it's summer bug juice.

Bags a genius for have onboard, takes up no space after use. Not sure if there a are different ratings up north in Norway on the already diluted bags, but you can get it as concentrate and dilute it your self. "Summer bug juice", hahahaha. 👌. Milk in bags, go figure, how does that work? Only in cartons here. I can't wait to get started on the final solution, version 2 will be out soon as I do some changes after this trip. Will get around to the edit next week. Using the same principle but utilising the space underneath much better. Still need to figure out the fridge solution.

You can hinge the entire platform in the front, and use some struts on the side to raise the entire platform with the drawers, so you can get easy access to the space under the platform. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-exywiKMdMIU.html

Aaaaa, smart solution! I have also seen the pull out solution. My thought here was that if the cross beams was made out of steel I wouldn't need the bottom plate, and only store 3-line stuff there, 3-line being when things go wrong. 😊 Which is never with a Land Rover. 😅😂 But great tip, keep it coming, love looking at other solutions and daydream of the perfect setup. 👌 Simon

Hi Simon, its always good to do your checks and I know you did your tyre pressures when you fitted the winter tyres 😁 I am planning a rear storage solution for mine too. I am going to go with a sliding floor panel to allow me to access everything by pulling that out. I have the 6th and 7th seats still in but I may remove them to allow additional storage beneath the floor. I found having my fridge accessible via the rear side doors was the most convenient or having it centrally placed when driving to allow my daughter to pass me drinks and snacks on route 😁 rather than draws and associated weight, I am just going to go for a stacking box system I think. This will allow me to swap them out depending on what I am doing and where I am going. Safe travels and enjoy 👍Simon.

You should really look for the centre console fridge. It's a winner, must be any lying around now as the ulez kicks in and D3 gets scraped. 😉 If you remove the seats there is a fair bit of room if you lift the platform a bit, you will get to see a bit more of mine soon and then you can see what I'm talking about. A full pullout I feel is only in the way and won't let you use the space to it's full potential. I would go for built inn solution, with parts/sections you can pull out. A pull out kitchen I think is something I would like this year, with everything ready to start cooking. Easy, fast and on the go solution is what I tend to look at, 5 min up and 5 min down.. 😊 Boxes are great and will work for so many years and in so many situations, and you can switch between cars, but definitely think about getting half and half in the disco, half with drawers and half with slideout. 😊 Talking about it just makes me want to go out into the garage and start building. Thanks Simon and best to you and yours! Simon.

@@LandRoverDrive I have already bought a centre console fridge I just need to collect it😁for the rear slider I was thinking about have 2 sliding trays rather than a full one and maybe work on something from there. I also want to get started but I have a few other projects to complete first like decorating our master bedroom.🤣I also want to be able to sleep in the D3 too and install a diesel heater. Lots to do yet

@@simon-mouse8739 Hehe, sounds like my life, more projects than time. 😊 But good to keep busy and fun building cars. 👍 I’m thinking one side for drawers and sleeping and then pull out on the other side with kitchen and dry foods.

Lucky you. You have a real oil dipstick! Not like mine, where the only way to check is using the ultrasonic sensor in the pan. And the Moon has to be in the right phase, the weather fair to get a reading. Mostly, after clicking away 10 [OK] and selecting the service menu, you'll get a "Oil Level not Available". Then wait for 20 minutes and try again... But there is a trick...

@rhkavli Hehe, D4 I recon. 😅 To new of a car for me. I have just realised this year that my 2008 Discovery 3 is the newest "normal" car I will own. 😊 Maybe a see-through sump is a solution. I guess you would sell a bunch if you got it made. 😂

Hei, skoffene kjøpte jeg brukt på fin. Merket er Sortimo og er skikkelig kvalitet som tåler mye, men igjen, de veier en del. 😊 - Hey, I bought the drawers used of the Norwegian used goods online store, they are the real deal and can handle a lot, but in return they are a bit on the heavy side. 😊
