This is a redo of the first lab lecture/discussion video in the Basics series. It covers the basics of configuring RSLinx drivers. It is more exhaustive and includes discussion with the Micrologix1000 to the MicroLogix1100. This presentation completely replaces the earlier video and covers additional material regarding specifically the MicroLogix1100.

Thank you for this info!! My Chem Eng degree at Drexel set me back 100k. I graduated not ever hearing what a PLC was. I'm finding out it's an important subject if you work in industry.

I have met many chem engineers out there doing lots of PLC programming. Micrologix is the most effective and least expensive route to learn PLC programming, but once completed, the Logix Engine with either ControlLogix or CompactLogix is a real treat with user defined data types, add on instructions, function block and structured text languages added to ladder logic diagrams. Do you always need to connect through RS-232 first, in order to establish connection with the PLC, then configure it for "non Boot P" + define the IP address?

the Ethernet address is the IP address; the MAC address is the hardware address or the local address.

I've micrologix 1400 plc and the ethernet port suddenly has stopped then I can't ping or communicate with it by ethernet. How can I repair this problem . Is this hardware problem or can I solve it by program settings.? Thanks

what about RSSidewinder? What is the difference between RSLinx and RSSidewinder? I mean are both of them for writing codes?

RS Sidewinder is a more tightly integrated API for RS Softlogix only. Softlogix is the Logix Engine running on a PC. RSLinx is a relatively narrow link between Rockwell Software and communication devices on your PC. Whereas Sidewinder is very effectively integrated with just Softlogix. Applications targeted are enterprise in nature.

plcprofessor With RSLinx you can create topics and use DDE/OPC to interface to MS products like Excel. I have worked with Softlogix but it is a very rare occurrence in my daily work.

Thank You professor I am learning a lot. I think I can answer this one. Answer: You don't you provably need to watch this video a few time like I'm doing. If you don't know your IP add. You first have to establish an RS232 connection to your PLC and follow the steps in this video. Than you you close or delete the RS 232 link and know having the IP add. you can link through ethernet.
