Do you have a plan to stop further rust in the future?

I will hit the pitted areas with a wire wheel and then a mix of WD40 & Lucasoil white lithium grease. If I know they are going to sit for a while without use I will coat them in Fluid Film rust protectant

@@jackof1 i wonder how hard it is to chrome plate stuff, I remember doing it in chemistry at school, just solutions and electrolysis. I've never seen a restoration channel go that far yet, would be really cool to see.

@@georgecroney6168 I think it’s illegal as you need some type of chromate to do a proper job and it’s deemed highly hazardous - I’m sure a zinc plating would be good enough to prevent rust - just won’t look as nice

Who let them get like that in the first place SMH

They belonged to an old timer who passed away. I imagine he slowed down in his later years and didn’t use them much. Now they are baptized in tool juice and have a second life!

You know these tools are lifetime warranties right?? You can just send them back for replacement. 😂😂😂

Warranties don’t cover rust, and in the case of Craftsman you’d be exchanging them for Chinesium. No thanks!

@@jackof1 there’s nothing wrong with Chinese made tools if you use them properly and within their limitations. My Snap On dealer has no problem replacing tools if they are rusty, as I bought a 1/2” breakerbar that sat in someone’s garage for 30 years and he replaced it with ZERO questions asked. It is a part of the warranty and falls under “craftsmanship and finish”.

@@bigmike2149 Old American-made tools are almost always better than newer Chinese/Taiwanese stuff (though, Taiwan has gotten much better than they once were at making tools). The Snap-On warranty is great if you have access to a tool truck. If you’re not a professional mechanic, good luck tracking one down, especially one who’s willing to deal with some guy that has never purchased anything from them.
