I think that in addition to stroking Gaius's ego, the idea that he is God's instrument in all this is attractive because it helps him put aside any guilt he might feel over the consequences of his actions on Caprica.

I think that's actually the main appeal for Baltar. Even a totally amoral wretch is allowed to feel bad about getting tens of billions of his fellow Colonials slaughtered in an afternoon, however inadvertently.

Fleshed out characters that aren’t perfect. They don’t tear down the older characters to build the newer. There are payoffs that are emotional because you understand motivations. One of the best shows ever. Great reaction. Thanks.

Having watched this show all the way through several times now I can tell you 'BSG: The Tricia Helfer Show' is an apt description 🙄 She's eye-candy in the first season but by the end it's her ability to hold a scene together that acts as the glue holding all the other moments together. Without Tricia Helfer there is no show. She IS the continuity. And yeah. Agreed. Mind-boggling that this is her first major roll.

Every time I recommend this show I say "and it was TH's FIRST!! ROLE!!!" I think the only other show that has really leaned into the same sort of breadth and scope of characters compressed into a singular top-billed actor is Orphan Black, where Tatiana Maslany played SIXTEEN CHARACTERS (clones) over the course of like, four or five seasons -- and while in her 20s!

The original Battlestar Galactica show's final episode was entitled "The Hand of God" and I will always be partial to the title belonging to the original. FYI, the container ship in this episode is a direct callback to the original show's Colonial Movers container ship.

Ok, if you hear that track/musical theme (with the wistful sounding bagpipes, and the singing in Scots Gaelic), prepare for Adama-related feels. It's called 'Wander My Friends', and it's basically the Adama family inspiring leitmotif.

I’ve absolutely loved the particular music cue that plays during the scene where the Adamas are talking about the lighter. It’s called “A Good Lighter” and is the official Adama family theme throughout the whole show. It’s so moving and perfectly captures the father/son relationship between the two of them. I have all the BSG soundtracks and the tracks where it comes up are probably my most listened out of all of them.🥲👏💜

I find it interesting how freaked out people are by Baltar's religious convincing in this episode, but at the same time we had Roslin having a similar thing with the Pythia prophecy. The reaction to both characters having a similar moment is always so different. Such good writing that you can have two characters having a religious experience and one is "Oh thats weird..." and "Oh no that's horrifying."

The thing about prophecies is, they can be interpreted in many ways, not just 'right' or 'wrong'. The thing about 'true believers' is, Noah could have been considered an extremist, but then rain 40 days and 40 nights. Also, like people, different Cylons have different levels of faith. This show takes al those questions about faith and what people believe and gives No easy answers!

This episode is great because it's (relatively) simple and straightforward without sacrificing its essential BSG-ness. It plays the Big Dumb Action Movie tropes straight - Ron Moore in the DVD commentary described this as "a Big Mac episode" - but still manages to throw in a few really good continuity (Starbuck can't fly this one because she thrashed her knee a few episodes ago) and character (Starbuck can't stand ordering other pulots out to die, Lee believes that nobody believes in him) beats, and gives Team Good a nice, uncomplicated win. And then it hits you with the curveball at the end. We still don't know who or what Head Six is, and her agenda is still very much a mystery (back in the day, this was the episode that convinced a lot of people that she couldn't be _just_ an hallucination). But it can't _possibly_ be good news that Gaius Freaking Baltar now thinks he's an instrument of God's Will, right?

This is an episode, out of order, based loosely on one from the original 1978 series. At least, this Cylon refinery doesn't have a casino on top of it! Head Six says God doesn't take sides. Which is interesting, since flesh & blood Cylons are adamant that THEIR "one true God" dislikes people who worship false deities, like the Lords of Kolbol. Ensemble cast means sometimes there are episodes focused on a few people, & sometimes most of the cast. Head Six has plans for Gaius. Plans no Clyon knows.

Soooo... slightly 🤔🤔 "sidereal" (🤔) or "askance," relevant, info.: Original, primary creator of the series: Glen A. Larson (although, yes: John Dykstra (Star Wars, Blade Runner, etc., etc. -the genius of the day) was responsible for the ship designs and model building!) was a 'Mormon' (member of The "LDS Church"/"Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints"), a portion of whose sacred texts (written by founder: Joseph Smith, in the early 🤔(first third, I think🤔🤔) of the 1800s) imply and/or state: elements used in the show (definitely in the original series and, by default, repeated and used (although not in any way, necessarily, attached to the religion, per se ...but reflective of ideas expressed ). Things such as: a "council of 12" (the LDS Church has a "quorum of 12") and the use of things such as "Kobol" (which is a direct anagram/anagramic permutation (🤷) of "Kolob": supposedly a star which is "closest to the physical residence of God"🙄🙄 -as the LDS Church believes in "spiritual materialism" (which seems "contradictory" (🤷) to many, ...and, perhaps, 🤔 'overly complicated' ...but 🤷🤷-. Best I can understand: the LDS Church (or, at least: Larson's view of it 🤷) implies ideology which is similar to/implies "ancient aliens"-type theories 🤷🤷. There was also a rather popular book, back in the 1970s (which i am guessing may, also, have had some influence on Larson -although i have no way of knowing, for certain!) entitled: "Chariots Of The Gods" ...which, also, entertained and promoted such theories (the first time I can recall/see it entering into public discourse 🤷🤷). As far as I know, neither Ronald D. Moore, or David Eick, (and of course, there are many other writers, who may be, or may have some connection to/knowledge of...🤷) have ever been nor are now: members of, or related to the LDS Church, at all ...and, so: while they kept some of Larson's use of dogma/legend in their writing, it isn't "a tribute to" the church's beliefs or practices, but: a strange, effectively "obtuse" (perhaps🤷), entry into: the vagaries of human beliefs in mysticism and alternate beliefs in what seems to be/purports to be: "the same thing" ...and, also: is used to enter the cast/characters into: the primary conflict (in many ways): "monotheism vs. polytheism" ...which haunts and strangles and infects humanity, to this day! (and has for thousands of years, at minimum!). ...A great deal of the "theology" in the show has been altered to use: horoscope signs and astrologically referenced Greek deities, in the BSG reboot. [i.e.: "the 12 colonies": all based-on Astrological signs (as I believe you noted, already👍👍), e.g.: "Picon." 'Tauron," "Gemenon," "Caprica," "Scorpius," "Virgon," etc., etc. ...)], "Athena" and "Jupiter" (which is, of course, the Roman equivalent of: "Zeus" -...so maybe not exclusively "Greek" 🤷😛) make "appearances"/get mentions, as well... (among others). --Also (totally disconnected from ANYTHING I've been talking about, so far!): I, personally, think it behooves a viewer to be familiar with Bob Dylan's song "All Along The Watchtower" (or Jimi Hendrix's, more famous, cover thereof.)-at least the primary melody... 🤷🤷🤷

This one always seems like it reuses plots from several DS9 episodes.

And TNG. Drumhead was reused from TNG which they have already seen. In a future show two TNG episodes will be combined. What I don’t understand is why would an atheist write all this religious stuff.

It's a poor prophecy that only works for one interpretation.
