Some light reading if you guys are interested on knowing more about the BSG Colonies. I copied/pasted from BSG WIKI and scanned and deleted any spoilers for you, I hope it helps! The Twelve Colonies are twelve distinct worlds, located in a remote part of our Galaxy. The Twelve Colonies consisted of multiple sovereign states, but during the final fifty-two years leading up to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, all twelve comprised a single state known as the United Colonies of .... The Twelve Colonies are situated within the star system Cyrannus. Cyrannus is a vast and complex system, comprised of four stars: Helios Alpha, Helios Beta, Helios Gamma, and Helios Delta. Each star is orbited by its own family of planets and other astronomical bodies. Helios Alpha= Helios Alpha is a main sequence star of spectral class G2V and has a mass of 1.0, and was the first system settled by the Colonials after the exodus, having first set foot on Gemenon. It shares its orbit with Helios Beta at a distance of 63 SU. The pair complete an orbit once every 373 years. Planets and Other Astronomical Bodies Icarus - A small planet located close to the star. It has a molten surface which makes mining and exploration impossible. Picon - This colony has an inclined orbit. Caprica and Gemenon - These two colonies form a binary planet. Tauron - One of only three colonies to feature a moon, named Minos. It is the only moon with a ring, and home to several mining and scientific outposts. Erebos asteroid belt - This asteroid belt is rich in minerals, which were mined by Tauran prospectors for hundreds of years. Zeus - A gas giant located at the outer edge of the system. This gas giant is the largest planet in the four systems, with a diameter of 153,000 km at the equator. The planet has 74 moons, the largest of which are Nike and Hebe. Persephone - Classified as a dwarf planet, Persephone is the outermost planet in the system and features an inclined and eccentric orbit. Colonial scientists believe this planet could be an escaped moon of Zeus. This system is unique in the fact that Caprica and Gemenon share an orbit around a common barycenter. According to the Colonial map, the planets orbit each other once every 28.2 days, and are separated by a distance of 493,000 km. Based on these numbers, Kepler's Third Law learns us that the combined mass of these colonies is about twice that of Earth. Helios Beta= Helios Beta is a main sequence star of spectral class K1V and has a mass of 0.79. It was the second system settled by the Colonials after the exodus. It shares its orbit with Helios Alpha at a distance of 63 SU. The pair complete an orbit once every 373 years. Planets and Other Astronomical Bodies Troy - A small, metal-rich planet, mined extensively by Virgon and Leonis since the founding of those two colonies. Leonis - The largest inhabited planet of the Twelve Colonies. Pallas - A small world with an inclined orbit once believed to hold a life sustaining atmosphere. It is no longer tectonically active. However, the Colonials have set up several small colonies and a military research station on the planet. Ouranos asteroid belt - This dense asteroid belt separates long-time rivals Leonis and Virgon, and has been a source of minerals for both colonies. Virgon - One of only three colonies to feature a moon, named Hibernia, and the only naturally habitable moon in the 12 Colonies. It was settled several centuries ago by the Celtans, an ethnic group opposed to Virgon rule. Hera - A gas giant, approximately 75,000 km in diameter, and the third largest planet in the Cyrannus system. It has 29 moons, the largest of which are Iris and Eubora. Helios Gamma= Helios Gamma is a main sequence star of spectral class G9V and has a mass of 0.89. It was presumably the third system settled by the Colonials. Helios Gamma shares its orbit with Helios Delta at a distance of 70 SU, and completes an orbit once every 456 years. Planets and Other Astronomical Bodies Thanatos - This planet, named after the god of death, has a corrosive 'sulphur' dioxide atmosphere and is tidally locked to its star. Acheron asteroid belt - A broad asteroid belt, named after Sagittaron's largest river. Libran - Features two small moons, Herse and Pandrossos, which are thought to be captured asteroids. The moons orbit so close to each other, they periodically swap positions. Scorpia - Home to the Scorpia Fleet ship yards. The planet features a half ring, thought to be a moon that broke apart nearly 100,000 years ago. Sagittaron - A barren, mountainous world. Ophion - A frigid gas giant with a diameter of 51,000 km, and an inclined orbit. The planet has 14 moons, all smaller than 10 km in diameter. Studies on the planet have Colonial scientists thinking that Ragnar was originally a member of the Helios Gamma system, while Ophion was not. Scientists think that Ophion was a rogue planet that passed close to Ragnar and was caught by the star, pushing Ragnar into its current orbit around the entire Gamma/Delta system. Helios Delta= Helios Delta is a reddish main sequence star of spectral class K2V and has a mass of 0.74. It was the last of the four systems to be settled by the Colonials. Helios Delta shares its orbit with Helios Gamma at a distance of 70 SU, and completes an orbit once every 456 years. Planets and Other Astronomical Bodies Phoebe - A small world with a high surface temperature and thin atmosphere. Styx - A planet with a dense, reducing atmosphere of carbon dioxide and sulfides. Aeolus asteroid belt - This asteroid belt features 'gaps', likely caused by tidal influences with Hestia and its two orbital companions. Aerilon, Hestia, and Canceron - These planets share the same orbit. Hestia - The smallest gas giant in the Cyrannian star system, Hestia only has a diameter of 47,000 km. It has 17 moons, the largest of which, Kronos and Rhea, share the same orbit. Aquaria - An arctic world, with the most inclined orbit of all the Twelve Colonies. This system is unique in the fact that Aerilon, Hestia, and Canceron share the same orbit. The two colonies are positioned at Hestia's Lagrangian points, meaning that the gravitational pull of Helios Delta and Hestia are balanced, allowing two smaller bodies (Aerilon and Canceron) to share the same orbit in a "fixed" position, maintaining the same distance apart at all times. Aerilon sits at the (leading) L4 point, and Canceron at the (trailing) L5 point. Ragnar - A gas giant with a diameter of 138,000 km, orbits the entire Helios Gamma and Delta system in a 899.75 year period. It is about 110 SU away from the central barycenter. The Colonials use the planet as host to Ragnar Anchorage, an orbital refueling station and naval armory that distills hydrocarbons from the planet's upper atmosphere. It has one moon, Sigurd. During the Fall of the Colonies, Ragnar was used as cover by the battlestar Galactica, and later her fleet, after escaping the destruction of Caprica. It would be the last world of the Cyrannian system that most of the surviving Colonials would lay eyes on. Hours after arriving, Galactica took the gathered fleet, and fled the system, never to return. Notes:The early Colonies lived (and fought) more as sovereign nations. Some (particularly Caprica) prospered, while others (such as Sagittaron and Aerilon) were often considered lessers. For labor forces as well as wars fought among each other, humanity created the Cylons. When these early models rebelled, the Colonies unified their governments under the Articles of Colonization at some point during the Cylon War into a federal republic known as the Twelve Colonies

Long ago, life began out there on the Planet KOBOL....the human race set out 13 colonies....12 named for the 12 signs of the Greek Zodiac....the 13th colony Earth (the lost tribe)....the colonies of Kobol lost contact with Kobol and Earth and it became like legend....Cylons were created by man (Explored in the Spin-off/Prequel Series called "Caprica" starring Eric Shultz)......keep watching, Season 2 gets wilder!

I don't know the actual answer about the constellations, but they're so far away from each other physically I can't see a way that each colony is in those places. The jumps have some kind of range limit that is, by interstella terms, pretty short

Without getting into spoiler territory, and I’m skating a thin line… The OG Battlestar Galactica had the twelve colonies like this one… Caprica being where Adama was from… and lots of other nods to ancient Earth mythologies… and it started with an opening monologue… There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. They may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive far, far away, amongst the stars But they made some changes, of course, for the reboot… keep watching to find out what that means

Recall Roslin's quote from President Adar in #8 'President Adar once said that the interesting thing about being a president is that you don’t have to explain yourself to anyone.' Sure not if you're a President for Life dictator. Not so much in a democracy. She told that to Adama in the wake of Leoban claiming Adama was a Cylon- instilling insidious belief in her. Roslin never considered she accused Starbuck of being influenced by Leoban yet thinks she's impervious. Roslin has a real dictatorial streak in her which comes out good and bad ways though out the series. She's a wonderfully complex character.

You have made a good point, in that now that Baltar is VP we should have far less time to do his Cylon detector tests. Perhaps he now has an excuse to put off doing many (or any) more tests??? We’ll see…

Chopper is growing into a big lad since his last appearance . The pregnancy story begs the question do Cylons have felines ? The politics and luxury eems a bit much for a human race fighting for survival but this BS G is a fascinating watch and it's always interesting hearing your thoughts about it .

I like Paula's sweater. This is the episode that shows Sharon has gone off script; & that they are legitimately on the run, not pretending to be. You notice she's never claimed to be either Boomer or Lt. Valerii? She's just answering to Sharon. I love how Boomer's safe date is Gaeta. She's in love with an enlisted man -- forbidden in military discipline. Each model, One thru Eight, was mass produced. Each character in this series starts out either likeable or unlikeable. Before we even met Ellen Tigh, we saw that they had a complicated relationship, since he was burning his photo of her. I have a feeling they've had this love/hate relationship for a VERY long time! Very few are still the same people by the end. The Twelve Colonies were settled in a binary star system with 12 worlds that were terraformed.

You will love this show and what is coming...

There are bizarrely few BSG reactions on RU-vid - nowhere near as many as there should be. I've been watching one by a woman who (having watched further than you) still insists on calling Baltar a good man, a decent person. I *LOVE* how you've had his number from day one. Ladies, when you finish BSG, you really need to watch Caprica, the prequel to BSG set 58 years before the Fall of The Colonies, about the birth of the Cylons with some background history on the Adama Family, monotheism, and a window into society in the 12 Colonies before the First Cylon War and colonial unification. One thing BSG fails to do is show the enormity of the destruction of the colonies-Billions dead. Because we never saw the bombs drop. Caprica makes the 12 Colonies real, thus manifesting the utter unthinkable horror of what’s to come.

This show has very sharp (and sometimes even whiplash inducing) turns. They pull things out of their ass that you NEVER see coming. And sometime those turns have Major consequences. But what makes this show so good it's not- OH THAT'S BULL SHIT kind of turns. It's Oh l never thought of that kind of turns. Soooo Yeah. So buckle up.

There is more than enough soap opera moments in the series.

I figure that the cancer diagnosis is why Roslin was so willing to do whatever it took to keep Zarek from being vice president. A big part of her was probably more worried about dying from that and leaving humanity in Zarek's hands than assassination.

p.s. ive seen season 1 over 40 times and i only JUST noticed a SUPER subtle clue about who killed Valance. Kara is changing her clothes and Lee comments on the blood in her uniform asking doesnt she clean it, and she replies "I just did". How is there blood on her uniform if she just cleaned it?? Maybe *someone* wore Kara's uniform as a disguise??? :O

The names of the 12 Colonies are simply carried over from the original 1970s show.

Just f.y.i.: "Hilo" (or "Helo" 🤷🤦) was never supposed to be part of the series. He was a circumstantial character in the "intro." movies and was supposed to never be seen again (or die 🤷🤷). ...however: He had SUCH a powerful response from fandom (and particularly female fandom) that: his character was "rejiggered" and written IN to the new series!! Literally! NONE of the "post assault Caprica" stories/events were planned or would have existed w/o "Hilo" (in the military the expression is: "Hilo" ...As I have always seen it expressed re: the character, it has been spelled with "a short e" [i.e. "Helo" 🤔🤨🙄🙄 - one letter away from: "Help" 🤷🤷🤔], which makes no sense to me, visually (but does, phonetically 🤷🤦)... but anyway ....). ...yeah, "Helo" exists because people think Tahmoh Penikett is hot, basically. 😛🤪 (No joke!)

Ellen & Gaius are both hardcore narcissists, but Gaius has an almost childlike unawareness of his, while Ellen has fully, maliciously, embraced hers. BSG's soap opera name is "Days of Our Battlestar". It's my only real annoyance with the show. I considered "As the Battlestar Turns", but then Stargate Universe came out and claimed the name, "As the Gate Turns". Regarding the astrological connection. Yes, we know. No, we can't tell you. Or maybe it means nothing, and I'm just messing with you. Enjoy.

The thing with Roslin for me is… She may be calculating, she may be cold, but ultimately to me it seems like she’s doing all of that in benefit of everybody else because ultimately she knows, or she thinks, that she’s not going to actually get to earth. So she could technically just lie back and enjoy the rest of her life but instead she chooses to always be struggling to try and get the rest of humanity to a new home. So I tend to forgive the mistakes that she makes for that reason. Because aside from leaving a legacy, there really is no benefit to her struggle other than getting everybody else home… One that she will not enjoy, according to the prophecy.

So your complicated feelings about these complicated people living through complicated situations is fraking you up?
