Fantastic and Excellent training video. Keep it up mate.. Had a plumber who condemned my boiler.. called him back to check the diverter valve and silver rectangular box (heat exchange) clean both up and he did.. Boiler is working great..Bless you

This was a EXCELLENT How to! video. Well done. It also explained some issues that arise, due to part failiure. Like the Brass by-pass. With the nylon bush & tiny o ring. People think leak is from front brass bush near micoswitch, but water is passing from the by-pass o ring. Great.

Nice one , I always repair these myself as it's easy enough to do and keep it on the van , I usually change one out about once a month and by doing it this way I can keep the cost down and tell the customer that it's a recon valve for half the cost of a new one....👍

I got biten pre-covid. I class myself competent, but I kept hitting my head of the wall, instead of actually taking a moment to think. The issue was again a 105he, divertor. Constant cycling on/off. Basicly a blocked hex. Also intermittent issues with divertor by-pass. I order parts from Fleabay, and fit the new internal valves, & brass bits. I kept getting fault no matter what I tried. Hot water gets warm then goes cold. Cycling again. Anyway..... the parts from Fleabay were fractions of a inch differant to original. So.it was never gonna work. I replaced with some old stock I had ,and fired up . That drove me crazy

Excellent video, I have just stripped my valve and cleaned all parts that were not in the kit in an ultrasonic bath, I followed your instruction on rebuild and refitted to the boiler, it now works fine for a huge cost of £17.00, Im well impressed recycling the old valve, thanks👍

Thanks for a fantastic clear video. When we run our hot water, the radiators get warm. Nice feature as we get a heated towel rail, but ideally I'd like to fix. Any idea what part I'd need to replace? I think it's one of the pin-on-pins getting stuck and not closing off CH loop.

Hi Dr Pipe, I was watching this video and I was wondering if you forgot to put the small o-ring at the base of gland nut for DHW, or do you not need to put the small o-ring and will work without it, just using the aluminium gasket?

Hi, Great video, what is the main cause of the diverter failing, the faults that I come across is always hot water running down the flow pipe when in hot water mode. I tried on many occasions to replace diaphrams but never resolves the issue, always end up putting in complete unit. Just asking what part fails that causes this to happen, have a spare diverter now so will refurbish ready for next callout.

Great Video - many thanks! I have recently replaced the Diaphragm with a kit as the pin-hole for the hot water microswitch was weeping. I have noticed while doing the job that the pin moves very slowly and requires a very high water flow - too much for some taps. I have taken it apart again and everything is moving freely and greased. It seems as though the spring is exerting too much back-pressure to the diaphragm. Do you have any advice please?

Forgot to say that at 3:33 the reason the ends of the springs look warn is that they coils at the ends are ground flat at manufacture to make sure the spring sits at 90 degrees to the housing surface otherwise the final turn would make it fit at at a bit of an angle and this would put a sideways force on the plunger causing it not to move so 'cleanly' though the hole in the brass nut.

I have an issue with my diverter assembly after following this video. Everything seemed to go well, however the CH pin (at the top of the main body) extends but does not retract. I can manually push it back in, but it doesn’t go in on its own when the CH is turned off. This means the microswitch remains pressed and I get a flame failure indicator (main 24 HE). I took the assembly back out again to inspect the diaphragm, pin and chamber and all seems fine! I wonder if the spring supplied in the kit isn’t powerful enough? Or water is maintaining the pressure under the diaphragm? Have you seen this before? Any ideas? Great video though, thank you

Hi thanks for your video content all very informative. I have come across this video as I suspect this may be the likely candidate for my situation. The boiler (combi) intermittently fails (more often fails) to ignite the burner when the thermostat is triggered. Also radiators downstairs hardly get warm when it is running. You can hear the fan engage (or maybe this is the CH pump) when the thermostat clicks on, but not burner. Pressure in the system is OK although it does drop over time and I can see some water underneath the boiler and scale residue on some of the pipework inside the boiler (looking from underneath). I have bled all radiators and balanced but still I'm having the issues above. Hot water is absolutely fine no problems there. Do you think the diverter would be the likely candidate?
@longjohn6269
@longjohn6269 3 года назад
For anyone else experiencing the above issues, plus a later developed issue of intermittent then no hot water - Fitting a new pump and diverter valve solved the problem. The failed component was the pump, but there was positive signs of leakage around the diverter valve so that was changed.

Brilliant video BUT !!! Why the heck do they sell repair kits without a CHECK VALVE it's the main seal to stop the DHW going into the central heating. I've had to take it off twice and take the spring off and locate in a electric drill and reseal it against its mating face after I'd flatten off the brass mating face with wet and dry sandpaper. Works great now but why sell a repair kit with every seal apart from the PLASTIC CHECK SEAL madness!! Thank you for uploading this video I would never have been able to repair boiler without your instructions of how to take the check valve out and check it. After looking under magnification 20X I could see pitting on the brass surface so flattened it back with wet and dry but also the plastic had a low spot too which needed to be spun against the sealing face with a drill... Not easy repair, if only they supplied the Check Valve in the repair kits... Please if your going to repair/recondition your diverter valve make sure to dismantle the non return valve and reseal the surfaces!!!

Typical Baxi/Potterton crap, by the time you have stripped it down and cleaned it, then rebuilt and fitted into the boiler, that's half the cost of a new boiler in labour. Never fit a baxi or potterton, not if you want your customers to keep coming back, that seal you just fitted will be leaking again in two years.

Am currently weighing this up on my boiler. Valve off and half stripped down, still some seized parts to free, kit to buy, rebuild to do, re-commission etc etc etc - all with the risk that it goes back together and starts leaking or one of the other many ancient parts on the Baxi gives up in a few months. Rang my plumber today with a view to just replacing the boiler instead. Still to be decided, but as much as I love repair and reuse there is still that bit of engineering judgement that says it's just throwing good money and time after bad. :-)
@derekclark7545
@derekclark7545 5 лет назад
@@yensabi i can also understand that, but when you have to get it right first time to earn a living and it's your reputation, chuck a new one in, customers don't like it when they have to call you out again.

Hi Derek Clark. I agree with your opinion on the quality of Potterton / Baxi boilers. I had a 33HE Potterton Gold fitted 7 years ago and was told it was a great boiler for the price. After 9 months the s way valve failed so it was replaced under warranty. It failed again 5 months later, then again 8 months after that. It then failed again 2 weeks after the 2 year warranty run out. It failed again another 4 times within 4 years! I was in constant touch with their customer services team and I have to be honest here and say they were fantastic dealing with this. When the valve failed again on the 19th of December 2017 they offered to change the boiler for free which was a great gesture. Their customer services manager, and indeed the guy who installed the new boiler just under 2 years ago admitted there was a fault with some “ O rings” in the 3 way valve assembly which had been changed to reduce costs. The new boiler they would fit would have a better designed “O ring” to alleviate this problem, I was told. The warranty on this boiler runs out on December 12 2019 and the 3 way valve failed on it yesterday! They are crap reliability wise, and I will probably bite the bullet and change to a different manufacturer the next time it fails as paying for an extended warranty will cost me over £ 240 a year to attain. I must stress they are one of the best customer services organisations I have ever dealt with, just the boilers they manufacture are poor quality in my opinion.
