Igon's quest was very quick, to the point, easy to understand, and cleared up a lot of lore about summons to me. I didn't realize a lot of the people you summon die afterward because they literally are giving you their soul. Igon's body couldn't fight Bayle so he literally kills his body so you can summon his more capable soul, truly using every last ounce of his being.
That's not how summons work though, there are several locations where you can summon and the NPC are still alive in their own world, Needle Knight Leda being the first that comes to mind I don't think it's explained in ER, but the classic Dark Souls answer is that the "Flow of time is convoluted, with heroes centuries old phasing in and out." I think Igon was just already on his way out anyway
This quest was beautiful. On the surface it’s just fighting a dragon, but you can really feel the rivalry between Igon and Bayle. And the voice actor just did such an amazing job with Igon’s lines. *CURSE YOU, BAYLEEEEEE*
Whenever I hear the isolated violins, it exhibits sadness or a reminiscence in memory. In a way, I see (hear) Igon’s past flash with his first encounter with Bayle, only to be completely destroyed and have his sanity be on the brink, cowering in fear once we find him. However, once we slay the lesser Drake in the beginning, Igon see’s us as a true Drake Warrior, not only being able to have the power to slay Bayle, returning him as a resolute warrior, but also carry out the legacy (Probably not the right wording) of the ancient dragons in a sense as we finally slay Placidusax’s nemesis. A long awaited day for the Dragon Priestess.
I'm waiting to see who did each boss. Because I know Yuka Kitamura was leaving and I really wanted one final great song by her. And songs like this or Rellana really do it for me
It's a bold move to take on/rewrite what is considered to be some of the greatest literature ever written. And they fucking knocked it out of the park 100/10
Bayle's Ost was already dope, now with Igon's voice lines is a true masterpiece in my ears! And don't forget brave Tarnished CUUUUUUUURSE YOU BAAAAYLE!
I think that’s a hot take still. Bayle has a lot of sheer might and personality behind him for a character with no dialogue. He simply is pure rage incarnate.
Man, the line when you finally slay The Dread makes me get all mushy and triumphant. The quiver in his voice, the elation and relief, peak voice acting, shit makes me tear up as I cry out in victory alongside him.
I like the placement of lines way more here than the other such video with Leda for the picture. In that video they seem very random while here they are chosen perfectly. Altgough I don't particularly like the sound effects from the game and that the second batch of lines speaks in one ear.
