I disagree with coming down sliding down like a pool using your legs. Shouldn't you build more muscle if you do the negative of climbing up which would be climbing down. But also it does strain the elbow a lot. And it causes the ropes to need to be replaced all the time they are always getting replaced in the original muscle Beach in Santa monica. And just forget about the one in Venice they pretty much gave up on replacing it.
Now that I've given it more of a thought, I actually agree. In the starting phases, youww want to work on technique and muscle memory. You want to tax ur muscles the least amount possible. That way, you will have enough reps to properly learn the technique. Then, once you have a few reps under ur belt, you can increase intensity and time under tension.
