I'm not going to lie, the pull up made me nervous as hell "is it safe to do that if its still so sharp?" On the back end of the test that was the best bad imitation of the Governator I've heard in a while :D
Some people say you abuse blades Mr.Mayor, well I think your showing all of us what your willing to do with knives you receive an buy in order to entertain us. The brick, cinder, tip tests are something very original an I absolutely love it bud. You show us the knives that are gold or pyrite. Everyday at my college we watch you beat the living shit out these knives!
I was reading the comments and it actually wouldn't be bad to see how well the knife can re-sharpen. I've bought knives that you cannot sharpen for anything (usually it's a carving knife, kinda ironic). How well a knife sharpens can tell a lot about the blade, and how well the knife was made.
I truly enjoy your functionality tests. They have proven valuable to me, for they have opened my eyes concerning knives I have thought were of moderate quality. After watching this video of the Becker BK 20, I immediately purchased the knife. The added bonus of receiving two other Becker knives with the BK 20 it outstanding. Thank you again for your entertaining and informative videos.
+Ima Doubtful Thanks ! I am glad that you like my tests, and I am sure that you are going to love the BK4, BK5, and BK20 ! The becker knives are really nice, I love em. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
+Bear Yeah, I know that sometimes I say it a little too much, but I really don't want anyone else to get hurt . Also, my legal advisor instructs me on this to circumvent legal repercussions. I am glad you love your Beckers, I love my Beckers as well :) Thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
The BK5 is an awesome all around camp knife.. If cutting is your game that knife excells. One of my all time favorite Becker/Fisk designs and one of the oldest in the line-up. I had one made by Blackjack many moons ago and stupidly sold it on Ebay about seven years ago because it had been discontinued when Camillus went under and the price i got for it was way more then i had paid.. It had a cool hole in the tang which a pin in the sheath passed through to retain it in the leather sheath.
Once again nice testing and great video. Safety suggestion, when doing pull ups have the sharpened blade facing away from your face - wouldn't want the blade to snap and fling into your neck, that would be nasty. Every time you do your pull ups that image enters my thoughts. Thanks again.
I have tried facing the blade away from my body, unfortunately It left a gash in my glove from the pressure. That is a good suggestion, but I would have to wrap the edge to prevent the pressure from cutting into my gloves. Thanks for watching friend, I appreciate that you are looking out for me :) Mayor Fuglycool
Great video man. I'll have to get a BK20 seems like an all around great knife. Sharpen it on a diamond stone and you'll have it back to its sharpness again in no time. A very tough knife too might I add. Very well made.
You have tortured more knives than I will ever own. Thanks for taking them beyond what most of us would need them for. It gives me more confidence in the ones I own.
+Phargus Jenkins Yeah no problem ! Thanks for the kind words, and I wish you the best. Any new knife suggestions ? Thanks for watching friend ;) Mayor Fuglycool
I've said once and I'll say it again. You beat the piss out of the knifes and when they break it's because you put them throw hell. Thank you for doing a fine job and enjoying yourself while your doing it. It's always a treat to see you smile at the end of a video.
+rekozma Thanks for the kind words friend ! I am glad this knife made it, and so far Becker knives have not let me down. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
this is the best knife testing protocol i have ever seen.....i wish everybody on youtube had the courage to perform such REAL and objective, hardcore trials....you are doing a great service to all of us , a huge thank you!
Hey, Loving the videos. Entertaining and educational. I would like to suggest a knife. THe schrade bushcraft knives. Decent quality, affordable, and attractive i think. THe optional knives are Schf56L or the 51 or 52. THe 52 seems your style. Schrade seems to be in everyones pocket but no one tests them like you do
+Cricket Just Cricket 56 would be cool, its new design and one I personally really enjoy and only $35 canadian so its probably under 30 in the states. The 52 is jjust a beast, I have the previous model the 37 and only $60 canadian. Both are thick knives so it would be cool to get your testing done
+Cricket Just Cricket In the future, I will get around to the SCHF 52. I do like that design, and I hope to try it out ! I was a little discouraged in the Schrade that I broke earlier in the year, but I will get back to them soon :) Thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
these knives are absolutely fantastic I'm pleased I subscribed to your channel these are the new knives for me,I put one of my knives through similar test and it broke so I'm a definite convert to Becker thanks again for sharing
+Adam Smith I really do love testing them for you guys and gals. . . I am very grateful for my subscribers. Thank you all for being there for me, and without you guys, I would not be here testing ! Thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
+007NunyaBizNess Thanks for watching ! I appreciate the laughs, and I test this stuff so you don't have to beat up your limited editions ! :P Mayor Fuglycool
+Damen0530 BK9 is lighter and a little shorter, but the BK20 is heavier with more reach. I think the BK20 is more well rounded, espically when batoning. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
+Dean Shields No problem my friend. I LOVE the BK 10. It looks like a little BK9, so awesome. I want one pretty bad, and one day I will have it. It's even legal to carry EDC here in Texas. I am glad you liked the video :) Mayor Fuglycool
Hey man, I love your destruction videos! Any chance at all you can do one of the new Schrade SCHF51 or 52? They seem to be very similar to the BK2, and I, as I'm sure alot of people would love to know and see if they would stand up to your ultimate tests! Thanks and keep up the good work!
Good informative and entertain video. Testing lot of knives is going to build up your arms because you're doing lots of pull ups. Keep it up, my friend.
cool good video and testing , good job mate , i love BK Knives , but wich one is the best for Survival (Extreme Situations) Wilderness and Outdoors ?? cuz im interested into BK Knives i want to buy the best one . Cheers :D
To be honest I like the BK 9 a lot. It is really an all around blade for any task, and it stays sharp for a good while. The BK4 is also a good choice, but it's more of a chopper. Thanks ! Mayor Fuglycool
Good review, I'm a huge fan of the crazy tests you administer to push every blade to its limit. If you can ever get your hands on any of the popular AUS8 SOG SEAL knives i'm sure that would make a great test video. I hear their proprietary Cryogenic heat treatment makes their AUS8 knives some of the best knives on the market, for a price.
may I make a suggestion that you do a three cut test on traditional tatami omote? One of the reason's is that at full roll of tatami bamboo matt that is soaked for 24 hrs with a bamboo core equates to the resistance of a good sized human limb ( usually a thick forearm ) the other reason is that the resulting cut can tell you a lot about the way the blade grabs at initial contact, and how it performs as it travels through the material. Kindest RegardsDennis Saint Aubin
That is a good suggestion. For the larger knives , it would be prefect. I will see if I can get the tatami mats, and integrate them into the test. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
I think the BK20 fits that role very well. I am growing to like that blade, because it is just so versatile. BK9 is a good choice as well, but in my op a little too short for batoning good sized logs. The Glock 78 knife also gets a mention, and the SP6 is also a great choice for general all around survival. Thanks for watching friend ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
Thanks for the reply! Ive been researching knives trying to find something that will last a lifetime, hopefully. I'll look into those that you've mentioned. I love the blade torture videos by the way.
Seriously.....thanks for that. Now I don't have to do that to my own BK20. Not that I would......but it's good to know that if I absolutely HAD to.....
+Michael Bailey I really appreciate you watching, and I shed a tear testing this limited edition knife. . . BUT if everyone gets together, we can ask Ka-Bar to make a full production run ! These blades are great, I used mine today for yard work as a matter of fact. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
How much did you pay for the knife? And how comfortable is the knife after using it after an extended amount of time chopping with it? Does it feather well or baton easily? How long does the edge hold up after longer use? How is the weight after carrying it on long hikes? How well does it handle smaller, finer task, like making notches for traps or stakes? Will it throw sparks with a ferro rod? What kind of carry options does the sheath offer?
He's reviewing the knife, those are the things I need to know before I consider buying one. I haven't held or used the knife, he has. If he's used and review it, he would know, I hope. A knife does alot more than just break stuff, right?
Ok through my own experience yes it chops pretty good, i guess, for a long period of time, does baton well, feathers pretty good (note: the things i said until now are personal preference i find fulk flat grinds dont work well on a chopper they tend to cause drag when batoning, bites way too deep for feathersticking, and it doesnt bust out chunks of wood as well as saber grinds. Thats why i said knives are personal preference full flat grinds dont apoeal to me not sure about u), edge holds up nice for a long period of time, an entire day but seriously just learn to strop or sharpen. The weight will depend on how u carry it but its pretty good. Does finer work great for a knife this size. Wont throw sparks outta the boc but seriously you're an idiot if that turns u off just get a file.
I paid 200$, came with BK4 and BK5 knives during the promotion. Knife is very comfortable, the weight helps it chop easily. Feathers really well, batons like a champ. Edge retention is good, like 1095 steel. I have carried it on two 5 mile hikes, it really carries the same as the BK9. Notches are possible, but a smaller companion knife is better for that task. Yes, the blade will throw sparks. I have not purchased an aftermarket sheath yet, but the standard one is kinda wearing on me. I prefer kydex or leather, the nylon one that it comes with is kinda mediocre. Thanks for watching friend ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
For your info there were only 500 of those made. In other words we can't buy one and if you destroy yours you won't be able to replace it. My source on that is Becker.
+faultroy I believe it's well worth the $200.00 and he proved it with his test and remember you get the other 2 good smaller blades also. Take Care and you can trust the Mayor
"To the choppah!" Lolz That was awesome all around, Mayor.. Say hello to your chickens for me! ^_^ Another big black blade beating bricks into oblivion. I think those Ka Bar Beckers are the best bang for your buck. That's a lot of B's & K's in that statement...
+Grippy McJimping The Becker BK line is impressing me more and more. . . For the price they are solid performers. I am really glad you loved the video, and of course thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
+Mayor Fuglycool I'd like to see how a Cold Steel Trail Master (the newer, Taiwanese made in O-1 steel) would fare in the Mayor Fuglycool Destruction Test. The Trail Master is a pretty iconic big blade with a great reputation but still some questionable aspects such as the rubber handle coming loose or the transition area where the tang is cut narrower than the blade right underneath the brass guard as being a structural weak point. Maybe you have access to one? If I had an extra $150 laying around, I'd buy one for you to test! "TO THE CHOPPAH...NEEOWW!" Lolz ^_^
Grippy McJimping Yeah, the trail master has been in limbo for a while. . . I have seen other Cold Steel knives fail before, and I have put the brand off for a little while. I could try to get to that blade next year, but currently I have so much lined up that it is hard to get around to that. I will try though :) Mayor Fuglycool
ontario marine raider is almost similar while bk 20 is longer with full tang , almost as wide as bottom part of the blade but as per kabar specs Bk20 weighs 612 grams while marine raider is around 635 grams, is it because 1095 cro van steel vs simple 1095 marine raider has?
The Jessica X is a knife that I have been wanting to do for some time now, right now the area that I shoot my videos is completely flooded ! Thanks for watching, and I will get around to that blade soon in the future :) Mayor Fuglycool
gah.......i got an itch that only the mayor can scratch. I dont know how much longer I can wait for a new vid. I need to know what is worth buying...how can I know without the mayor! WHERE IS THE MAYOR! WE NEED YOU! I NEED YOU! lol love these extreme tests, I wanna find out what you think of MTechs (20-12 or 20-39 or something with that 440c stainless.) I just feel so much more comfortable tossing money in a knife after I seen it pass your tests. best tests on the web. everyone else just pussyfoots their blades and you cant really judge anything till its been thru hell.
+Dragonlordd I really appreciate the response ! Don't worry, I will get to videos soon. In about a week I will have more knife videos coming. I do like to cycle between knife and gun videos, but lately the place that we shoot is flooded still. I don't really know what to think about MTechs, as I have not tested any yet. I have an ACB-90 from MTech (M48), and it feels solid, but I am somewhat skeptical of testing. I will get more MTechs to test, but it will be late in the year. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
+Mayor Fuglycool thank me? no no no sir, thank you! I know what you do is not cheap and almost painful to watch sometimes (bye bye pretty blade) but it's very valuable information. I think mixing it up a bit like you did with that mexican machete episode, really was cool. Committing to pretty much same tests but with a splash of fun and uniqueness would be healthy for channel growth. (who says a lil comedy takes away from professionalism) Anyways, if I get ahead in bills I'll see about what I can donate for your channel. I can't wait to see more. Stay cool bud and stay safe.
it would be great if you could do a partnership with kabar. they would be pretty pleased to see the people realize how strong and powerful their knives are after watching your videos.
+Vlad Popovici Well, I cannot do partnerships with any companies, mainly because I am trying to stay as fair as possible. It would be awesome, but in reality I have to stay neutral to deliver the most unbiased test. For example, if I was partnered with OKC, chances are they would have tried to change out the chimera with a "best" production version to prevent breakage. I buy them or receive donations, which equates to pretty much random chance blade from the production line. Mayor Fuglycool
How about testing a budget blade? Maybe test the Mtech USA MT-096. It would be interesting to see how the 440(A?) holds up. Some vloggers (like Tactical) say they've beaten the crap out of it and they don't break.
Man it's too bad then Ethan Becker was so arrogant and ashamed that my good friend Jason Moses designed a better knife than him so he immediately discontinued these for fear they would overshadow his designs!
The BK20 is awesome, and yes, becker thinks my tests are somewhat ridiculous. On the blade forums, someone chatted with becker, and sent him this link, and he laughed. You are correct about becker being somewhat arrogant. Mayor Fuglycool
You should tag on an extra 7ish seconds on vids of knives you like/that pass your tests of the knife after you resharpen it and give it some love. (Hope that made sense) I cringe EVERY time I see a knife get taken to a brick.
+Mayor Fuglycool Maybe a slow diagonal pan across the resharpened/cleaned up blade, then fade to a full glam shot of the knife with a "Thanks for watching" in text... I wish more knife reviewers did it. ;) It'd also give guys an idea of how well the blade takes to resharpening, and cleaning up... ;)
