The final chapter of Henry VIII's notorious reign is here. Season four of the epic Showtime original series The Tudors begins Sunday, April 11th at 9PM ET/PT.
theres proof that Catherine Howard had a relationship with Thomas, such as love letters written to each other. But with Anne, theres NO proof at all. In fact, there are letters of other people in the court that have been found that show that she was innocent.
Not only that, she wasn't even at court for about 80% of the time when these trumped up charges took place. At one point she was even in seclusion after suffering from a miscarriage. She would certainly not have fooled around with other men at that time.
Marianne A I agree. There’s a great book called The Fall of Anne Boleyn by Anne Ridgway (who has a RU-vid channel and does a “This Day in Tudor History,” and did a “Fall of Anne Boleyn” video series during late April and May) that chronicles her fall and just how fast it was. An excellent read. The prologue especially, wow. The swiftness and slandering that went on with Anne, then discussing it in (what were at the time) almost pornographic terms to turn people further against her makes me think Anne was truly innocent and Henry wanted her done away with. However. The trial of Katherine (or Catherine; spelling was inconsistent back then) took so much longer and there seemed to be a concerted effort to figure it out. Also, not a huge group of people were condemned, there wasn’t a big political motive, and he truly seemed to have been upset and hurt by it. He was a terrible person, and at that point in his life, I don’t care a whit about whatever pain it caused him, because he caused such pain and anguish to so many who genuinely loved him, but it is always interesting to look back and see how it took place, how the tapestry unfurled, I suppose.
Yes and that's very sad because Katherine Howard was old enough to be his granddaughter and Henry looked at her as basically someone to breed with and have more heirs. Ann may have been feisty, but she definitely was not an adulterer.
floria comeaux it was cancelled?! What? No! :D There had to be 5th season? But the end o the 4th season was like..the end of the whole sries. Tell me more pls
onemoreheartbreak I agree! But I want them to show the reign of Henry's only son Edward VI and the incredible drama of the struggle between his uncles, The Lord Protector and his brother. Remember, the younger Seymour brother (I keep getting their names mixed up) may have married Henry's widow as planned but he tried to seduce the teenage Elisabeth after they became her guardians. For this and an attempt to kidnap the boy king he was tried and executed. Soon after his brother was also executed by the new power family the Dudleys. The Dudleys then tried to hijack the throne as Edward VI was dying by putting a granddaughter of one of Henry VIII's sisters on the throne (Jane Grey the 9 day Queen). All this before Mary returned to her own tumultuous reign! Put Sophie Turner in as a young Elisabeth and that's a guaranteed ratings winner!
Poor little Catherine Howard was only 15 when Henry alighted upon her. This has since been worked out by historians. So imagine how young she was when those other men in the Duchess' household were meddling with her.
Sad! He was old enough to be her grandfather and I can't see how Henry did that but back then they would marry girls as young as 12. It wasn't necessarily Catherine Howard's fault that she was like that because the duchess should have been watching over them better. Sure teenagers will make their own choices and be very unwise which means they need better supervision. He should have sent her to a nunnery being her age.
@@montrelouisebohon-harris7023 The nunneries and monasteries had all been dissolved by that point. There was no nunnery for Katherine to be sent to. Also, marriage between an older man and a younger woman was considered acceptable in that time.
@@theraven6843 The series was designed to be a dramatic soap opera, not necessarily historically correct. In that context they chose the most scandalous stories - which actually did swirl around at court all the time - the court was full of envious ambitious gossipers and eaves droppers who didn't always know the actual story. But others at court, closer to the real players did.
Well thats hard to say considering the fact that people like different Queens in the series and all. My favorite is Anne Boleyn and other women in court at the time envied her because she wasn't the usual pale skin blonde hair blue eyed woman that most people saw back then. And she didn't only have "wit" and "charm" she was extremely intelligent you can read about her and find out that she had a high class education.
catherine howard, catherine of argon and anne boylen are my favorite. catherine henrys first wife was very loving and nice to her people, anne boylen was incredible with .. everything! lol! and catherine howard because she was just a teen queen , wich a teen myself can relate to
In the show, Anne Boleyn was the most beautiful of Henry VIII's wives. In real life, Catherine of Aragon was a great beauty youth, but after several pregnancies and all the struggles she went through, she was not so beautiful any more. Anne Boleyn was not a classic beauty, but her dark looks attracted the attention of Henry VIII. Jane Seymour was very plain looking. Anne of Cleves was considered ugly. Katharine Howard was beautiful, but too young. Catherine Parr was just normal looking.
+Faith's Movie Reviews Cof A was in many ways his best queen, she had the IQ, the pedigree and the ambition to love H8 completely. Sadly she was six years older than Henry. They lived in an age before antibiotics and many of her sons died after their births.
Happy 40th Birthday to Jon Reese Meyers from the Heartland of America, Minnesota. My family and some friends are HUGE fans of The Tudors. We all agree, we will only think / remember/ connect Jon's rendition of Henry V111 as portrayed by him as the only way we will ever think of Henry again. Every one agreed. I made a wedding cake and luncheon for Britt fans for William and Kate in '11, rest assure, Jon, we'll definitely raise a pint for U.
OH HELL YEAH!!! I started watching S1 in January. I could NOT stop watching!! I stayed up all night finishing it and I had actually had fun learning about the real characters. Saw S2 and 3 and I can't wait!! This show is off the hook!!!
Jonathan was phenomenal. He was the best King Henry VIII. I love the sounds Johnathan make when he reaches that point 💙. I've watched all of Jonathan's movies after seeing The Tudors. Jonathan is beyond exceptional at his craft. Jonathan's love scenes makes my pupils dilate. I've watched them over & over. Tee hee 😁.. Jonathan is talented, who happens to be gorgeous ❤️. Vikings 💯. I even love when he's upset. Oh yeah, those full lips are amazing 💋
I just rewatched this for the third of fourth time. This show still is in my top three of all time, and due to the emotional ending, it’s possible that it’s now tied with Deadwood for the top spot, with Rome close behind. The emotions of the last episode, I’ve never been touched like that, the themes were universal, and I wish I could thank Jonathan, Showtime, and the entire team for this MASTERPIECE. AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE.
@6teddy6bear6 The movies "Elizabeth" and " Elizabeth: The Golden Age" were made by the same creator as the Tudors, so in essence those are the continuations, but I know what you mean. I wish the show went on with same cast members too.
cant believe its over! one of the best shows that have come and gone..... The Tudors will be a show for the ages now i have something to watch and entertain me when im 60 hahaha
I desperately want the creators of this show to make a sequel show starting with prince Edward about to die at a young age, to lady Jane grey as Queen shortly, to bloody Mary’s reign and her fights with Elizabeth, to her eventually dying and Elizabeth’s reign. So a show in between the Tudors and Reign
Amazing, I already watched this trailer few times! I can't wait for new season! I have feeling that it will be the best season of The Tudors. Too bad it is the last.
I'm not sure why the narrative should describe Henry's reign as 'notorious'. He was certainly a strong King with a determined personality, and within the context of sixteenth century politics those who got in the way would certainly suffer. He laid the foundations for England's future greatness, breaking the stifling bonds from the continental catholic church, and looked forward to the British Empire. Without him, Americans and all Canadians would now be speaking French or Spanish, not English.
i already watched season 1 on netflix...in the middle of season 2...amazing and mesmerizing!......want to read the books on it...gonna get dvd set sometime...still have to watch season 3 and the finale!!!...i love the tudors!!!!!
I just re-watched this wonderful series again for the 3rd time. However, this is the 1st time that I noticed that in season 4, Episode VII where it shows the King's leg wound was on his right leg where all other times it was on his left leg. LOL
I don't understand why they don't go into the reigns of Queen Mary and Elizabeth. I thought they would since they spent time developing those characters, and their just as juicy.
Superbo Jonathan ..Un grande Enrico ottavo. .Anche se fisicamente non gli assomiglia per niente. .ma caratterialmente è perfetto. .bravi coloro che lo hanno scelto ..perfetto
I know right!?!? I'm SO curious to see how they tell Queen Catherine Parr's story. She loved him so much & near the end she was almost arrested but managed to reconcile with Henry. This season is gonna be EPIC!!
JRM was just to hot for words in season1 and 2. i am so gonna miss this show hopefully i will see him in more projects/ modeling (i love his hugo boss ads)
Look at Charles/Edward & Thomas Seymour when Henry explodes in the council room (1:31-1:39). Absolutely priceless!!! They're all like "should we start running for the door now!!!" Cuz when Henry was pissed off, you got out of the way!!!
Love this series. The only thing is that the part where he talks while on horseback 2.34 it sounds like his voice is down a pipe. Can't wait to see the series :)
Oh your so lucky. I live in germany and its been said that season four will air in december !! Thats to looong. Maybe ill move to england for a month or two to be able to watch the season in english ^^ Im so excited to see catherine. I just read the book *the Boleyn inheritance* by Philippa Gregory and i just love Catherine's character in the book :-) I can only say if you like the tudors you will love Philippa Gregory's books !
When does he become the ulcerous heavy-weight of History? Rhys Myers is hard to beat in this role. Ah, the "what ifs" of History: What if Henry VIII had never had a traumatic brain injury?
I love it when he plays Henry..his voice is so powerful!! Is there going to be 12 ep's? anyone know?? making a total of 40 p's for the whole series of thr Tudors?? Yes they should go on after he dies Queen Eliz is another favorite of mine! they could make HVII come back as a ghost to include JRM !! then we wont loose him!
Why they stopped it? It was perfection. You wanted them to go on with the reign of Edward, Mary and Elizabeth. Too much is too much. Yes, they could have even gone on with the Stewart’s, but you can’t bleed a rock. There’s only so much creativity that one team can produce. It would have been great, though, I must confess.
@19EHF Sorry Henry was good looking in his younger years. and the women were considered beautiful by his standards, except Anne of Cleves. Actually I think she was the prettiest one of them all.
normally the previous season comes out on DVD right around the time (or a bit before) the next season...so since this one won't have a season 5, I'd say we are looking at around Dec of 2010 or Jan 2011
@Frogsmere To put it in context; Mary ruled for only 4 years. She burned people at the stake for being Protestant; most of them never raised a hand to harm her. The Catholics that Elizabeth killed (during her 45 year reign) had actually joined a rebellion to kill her and put Mary Stuart on the throne. She was fighting for her life.
Oh this is going to be good. I loved season one and two. Wasn't as thrilled with season three but this looks ever so exciting! too bad I don't have cable which means I will have to wait for the DVD. Uggghhhhh! Deloufu I'd be scared as heck too if Henry was interested in me. LOL
Damn, season 4 looks awesome! I might order showtime just to catch this season. Question: What episode is the scene at 3:20? you might have to be quick to pause and catch it, but it's the scene where he's standing on a table and laughing. It looks like it's from season one, but i've watched S1 plenty of times and can;t remember what episode it;s from
@kellyistrying exactly and this series was/is very well received (I, for one, am watching it on BBC America-I FINALLY get to watch a "Masterpiece" of costumes, elaborate sets, and beautiful people, etc. I am a tad bit miffed the writers left out Sir Anthony Denny, 1 of Henry's trusted confidants, especially at the end of his life. The man who told Henry he was "DYING" after taking over Henry's duties (rubber stamping his signature, etc.and being the executor of his will.) Oh well, luv the show :)
I have a question....i have only ever seen bits and pieces of the tudors but if i were to sit down and watch the new season does anyone know if i'd be able to like understand or would i have had to know the previous information?
@balenguer i know she is my favorite too and in my oppinion the most beautiful in the show in history she is famous cause she is the mother of queen elezabeth the 1st
But about 10years before Anne he had become increasingly disillusioned with Rome's interferrance and the failure of Catherine to provide a male heir. He looked in to the possibility of divorce from Catherine but the Pope woud not give his permission. It's possible that it was also around the time of his illegitmate son's birth that he was spurred on. If you step back from the emotive arguments about who he loved more or who was prettier what you basically have is Catherine who was determined
@xsexyminxyx i heard about how brilliant season 4 was,,, sadly i didn't get the chance to watch it... can't find any on yt... so maybe i just have to wait for the dvd to come out...
No actually if you do research on the Tudors family and the Boleyn family etc you will find out most of the scenes from the series are actual events and most of the dresses in the series are suppose to look like the actual dresses worn by the Queens there are lots of references to their lives in the series like Henry's leg injury and even some special things to Anne Boleyn like her "B" necklace and even her friend/stalker that wrote poems for her.
