This job takes a toll on your mind. For me I spend time in nature, the gym and in the church that’s my way of dealing with this job. I do my job and I leave it behind the wall. My advice to anyone wanting to do this job is give yourself the time to adjust you are in for a culture shock with the inmates and the culture of corrections take the time to adjust it will take time. This job can make you a better person if you let it. The best people I know work in corrections the opposite is also true unfortunately.

Nope, can’t do it. Shift work, insane overtime hours, lack of pay. Don’t know how you do it or why you continue to do it but thank you.

I moved from a state prison to work at our state academy as an instructor. When I told the manager of my apartment (who always told people I was a "guard") I was going to be moving to work at our academy, he was SHOCKED that "guards" have an academy - LOL He thought we just threw on a uniform and "guarded" walls or inmates. What training would that take?? LOL

I joined at the times of a salty Officers ”guard” this vIdeo is good I was almost thrown of a tier I could been stabbed “shanked” a number of times . I had an Oc Grenade explode in my jacket pocket because of lack of equipment I believe the respect of the inmates saved my life. being, fair firm and consistent is a cornerstone of corrections!

Dear Anthony, I’am not a correction officer yet but, I hope 🤞 soon 🔜 I will be a correction officer part time and I have found out that a part time correction officer does have to take a exam.

The 80 hour weeks as "part time" because most of the class ran away .. Is the worst or at least most difficult part. It's not so bad once you're not forced that often

During my time as a CO, you become so hypersensitive to everything around you. Referring to you saying being vigilant. Yes, it is very exhausting, because you wish you could just turn your brain off, but anymore it's like second nature. It will almost always remain with you.

I've been out of corrections for a couple years now and I still wish I could just shut it off. But having a regular job just doesn't do it for me anymore.
