Looking for the best coffee beans to buy from Coles Supermarket? Look no further! In this video, we put 12 bags of medium roast beans to the test to see which ones are worth sipping and which ones are worth skipping. Our blind taste test includes brands that are widely available across Australia's biggest supermarket, Coles. We looked for sweetness, enjoyable fruit-like acidity, brightness, and no over-the-top harsh bitterness or dry ashy flavours. We also made sure to use the same recipe for each coffee to keep things fair and consistent.

I'd like to make a special mention to my top 5 beans on the day - as while this was a randomised sorting of which beans would go head to head, there appeared a few bags that were eliminated early and I believe would have made for better FINALS.
So my top 5, in order are:
1. Sensory Lab Steadfast
2. Daley St Medium
3. Daley St Organic
4. DC Critical ( as on several more brews, and in lieu of less enjoyable bags, this was alright.)
5. Vittoria Latte ( My favourite coffee that I would use for milk-based drinks. very smooth.= - and is designed exactly for milk-based drinks.)

OMG - I love this review! I enjoy all Joshua's reviews and educational videos and have been inspired to pick up my coffee game - thanks Joshua, but this is so useful for my everyday brew considerations! It would be great to see some other major brands tested too in the future, this is such a good idea, you could almost spin off a new series of videos, if you can contain the caffeine! Would be great to keep these tasting videos going and why not introduce some of the independent brews too. Now this may be sacrilege for some, but a review just of decaffeinated roasts only would also be a great resource - I know many now choose decaf for their late afternoon or evening brew, but there's never as much choice. Obviously there are so many amazing individual specialty roasters out there, but they are not always quite so accessible all over the country and if you can't get to them in your local shops then their cost and the delivery timing both go up and become considerations when you need to factor shipping in as well - but it would be great to see some consistent independent reviews. So I think at some point most of us will have stood in the local Supermarket aisle contemplating and comparing different mainstream roasts. There's nothing worse than suffering decision fatigue from overwhelm, when you suddenly loose 15 minutes in the aisle still staring at bag after bag of coffee😒 all claiming pretty much the same benefits and tasting notes🤷‍♂ - whilst the rest of the family are through the checkout and packing the car! 😊 The ability to see Josh try all these out and provide an independent viewpoint - even if maybe his preferences may not be ours - its still an amazing resource to get a common reviewer to try such a selection out. 👍👍 I know from experience just using that Intensity rating from the bags means pretty much nothing from one brand to another for me when tried at home imho since I never have maybe more than two brands open to compare and never actually make an espresso back to back - instead I tend to work my way through one bag of coffee and then move onto another and never making the proper effort to truly compare tasting notes - so this was a great video - thank-you! I even feel inspired to try some back to back testing myself now too!
