Great sales insights, as always. About 13 minutes in, I think you really hit it out of the park.... You sound like a business owner. One CEO talking to another. Business owners typically don't hang up on each other. And acting like you are slightly annoyed that you are making a cold call, or talking about recruiting......perfectly matches the prospect's thinking when you call. Masterful training we're getting here.

The comparison with acting is so right - acting requires rehearsals, dress-rehearsals, critique, coaching (method or not) and maybe more.... So many people prospecting by telephone hate to hear the sound of their own voice in recordings, never mind having local theatre critics getting stuck into them. The best actors never tip up on set without having put in the leg work to get there... Loving the content - great stuff altogether. 👍👍👍

Perhaps you're most esoteric follower, I want to say a huge thank you for your helpful videos. I watch them before I begin cold calling for my business each week, and it always helps me to put the feels to the side, and focus on commanding the conversation and not taking anything personally. My notes: Expect people to answer the phone, and think that you are doing them a favor when you call them. It's all about delivering. No line is 100% bulletproof, Focus on how you deliver. Don't introduce yourself, don't ask how they are, nobody cares. He who asks questions is in control. If they want to hang up now, they gotta go first. Do not hang up. Pick the phone and learn how to talk to people

The only thing a bit "dodgy" is the psychology thing around minute 15: "you can't feel bad if they hung up, cause you told them to do so". I might have told them to hang up, but only to struck a conversation. Failure is a failure, doesn't matter how you dress it up, I won't fool meself on this one. One of the key things here is "be professional". No emotions, don't get hung up (no pun intended) on things. That could be a life lesson really. Weirdly enough, I read a piece on French legion, and they have this as one of their 7 commandments: "do your thing (ie killing people) without emotions, respect the enemy". Benjamin the Legionnaire!

I think I know the guy you're referring to who did over a million calls in his career. He's a friend and former sales colleague of mine. He's in his 40's now and has been in telemarketing since he was around 18. The way he's gotten to that number is through something called a multi-line autodialer. It usually dials around 3 lines at a time and automatically connects you to the first person that answers the phone... The system can literally dial 100 to 150 numbers per hour and makes it so that there's almost no down time between calls... It's a life-saver, especially if you have a large list of B2C leads. So, if you're dialing for 4 to 6 hrs a day and making 100 dials/ hour over the course of a 20 yr career, you'd easily exceed a million dials... Just an FYI... But I love your content, man. Keep it up.

Benjamin- It is all your fault! I FINALLY got my first job as an SDR in SaaS, booking demo's for real estate agents. The only opening line provided to me was : Hi, my name is Blair from ABC company. How are you today? (it gets worse from there). I listened to your advice in this video and loved what I heard. I experimented with the crazy idea that my job was actually to get a human being a little bit emotional about what I fix...My boss disagreed with your approach and now I'm unemployed again... I could use any encouraging words of support

Great strategy. Any advice about cold texting people? I own a small video production company. What I noticed is that most people don't care about video marketing so I feel like I need to do one more extra step to explain/educate them about how this can help them get more sales/build trust and so on. I get answers like "I'll think about it" "we will consider this in the future" but we all know this is bull$hit.. Thank you

Hi Ben, thanks for the videos! I have a question that’s been on my mind and make me wonder what approach to take when cold calling companies. I’m in sales in a SaaS company and we help customers improve efficiency in their accounting and operational departments. Now I agree that the decision makers are the ones you should target because they are the only one that can actually buy the service. However from my experience I would say at least 50% of these decision makers don’t actually know the issues their staff are facing, because the system in place “works”. When I speak with desk level employees however, it doesn’t take long to discover these issues. So my question is this: should I still target decision makers even though they usually don’t understand or are aware of the problem we could solve, or should I first target desk level people, discover these issues and then target the decision makers. The issue I see with the second option is that it makes the sales cycle way longer. Would love your thoughts on that, thanks!!

I always target the decision maker. Anything els is a waste of time.. Ask questions to help them find the problem or lack of efficiency to make them aware of it

You said prospecting sucks, and that a person who says they like it is either lying or a masochist. Hmmm. But you do it because you are good at it. I just came across your videos, and you got some good content it seems. It also seems that on some calls you enjoy the convo. I think you may mean…and I could be wrong….that prospecting sucks because one doesn’t like the rejection. For if all prospect calls were leaning toward a “yes”, one would prospect longer perhaps, and may even enjoy the process. But it’s the “no’s” that one may dislike a lot. But it comes to perspective. One is prospecting knowing it can either be a yes or a no, and one takes that risk. That doesn’t mean they should think prospecting sucks. There is enjoyment in some calls, and others can “suck.” But “in all labor there is profit.” Which may be a reason you do it. God bless you! Thank you for being you.

These tactics assume the decision maker answers the phone. If a secretary answers, he/she will tell the decision maker who it's and none of this works.
