Fun fact about that final cutscene. For swordsman using Iaido(pronounced E-I-dough, WOOLIE!) to toss away your sheathe means you know you’re entering a battle you don’t expect to win. Vergil tossing away his sheathe means he expected to be killed by Mundus in that fight. Sadly, that is not what happens.

@@matthewlugo2417 In truth I feel that it was more appropriate for when it happened. It happened right when Vergil said "I need more power!" and that fits perfectly for DMC4:SE for one good reason. When DMC4:SE was first announced in a trailer was in the trailer of the reboot's Definitive Edition which ended with Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition appearing on screen with an echo of Vergil saying "I need more power!" so the timing we got could never get any better.

My favorite thing about the relationship between Virgil and Dante is how they dont like each other, but you can tell they really do love each other. And how Vergil gets playful when Dante is around.

@@Brandonious15987 This is something the anime goes more into, but apparently powerful demons can take on a human form. Which in Sparda's case is that combed hair, purple regal coat & monocle look Dante gets as a costume in all the games.
Sparda is so powerful BECAUSE he found the capacity to love. That's why you beat Vergil in the end. Power isn't everything. How did you guys play through all the games and not know that?
I never realized it until now, but Virgil's line "Remember what we used to say?" really makes me want a game about younger Dante and Virgil. Maybe an animated movie would be better but that's a part of their relationship i kinda wish was explored more

I think Virgil is more commonly used when describing the character from the Divine Comedy, so Vergil in DMC kinda gets smacked with the same stick. It's not like the difference is large enough for most people to notice, anyway; I get the two names mixed up constantly

That explains why he is so insistent on making fun of Dante's mommy issues. He is desperately trying to keep the Vergil in his heart pure and perfect. But it is too late, Vergil will forever be known as huge NEEEEEEEERD!! with a daddy complex.
During his final cinematic duel against Dante, he also choose to use Force Edge instead of Yamato, probably because he knew he would lose, but wanted a kayfabe excuse for losing.
I think the in-universe explanation given through flavor text was that Arkham was too evil to properly contain Sparda's power, hence why he devolved into a huge blob. It wasn't really a choice on his part.
Well the fridge logic is that Sparda with his true power should have been able to wipe the floor with Dante and Vergil, especially with them at the power level they had at the time. Maybe Dante post DMC1 wouldn't be instantly curb stomped by Sparda, but it wouldn't exactly be a cake walk to actually beat his father even then. Sparda took on the legions of hell by himself, and defeated Mundus in one on one combat -- even to the point it's implied he ripped a hole in Mundus' chest. If Akrham could actually control Sparda's real power, Dante and Vergil should never have won.

I was simply trying to say that if the blob monster was a reflection of Sparda's true power then Dante would have lost that fight, even with Vergil's help. That is why the blob monster CANNOT be a reflection of Sparda's true power, and Arkham wasn't qualified to handle it.

i always figured arkham turned into this big purple goo is because he couldnt control sparda's power the vergil & dante part of the arkham fight is the worst part if you play dante must die mode because you cant use devil trigger anymore and he's homing rockets deal a shit ton of damage
Doesn't work on this version of the game, they changed it for the release they're playing. Non TL:DR version: The super costume gives unlimited DT, but this version of the game was changed so that doesn't apply to Quicksilver or whatever the fuck the other one is called. If you wanna co-op playthrough DMC3 you've gotta use an older version.
Graysett Wrong. You're talking about Super Dante. That's a different costume. With Super SPARDA, your DT doesn't drain even if you use DT flux, Doppelganger or Quicksilver.
Graysett He's rights losing DT in Super Costume is only Super Dante and Vergil, but Super Sparda gives you unlimited amount of DT, I think you also regen HP too but I could be wrong about that
Okay, gotta say possibly my favourite moment was Lady actually getting revenge. Too tired of the "If you kill him you'll be just like him" rhetoric screwing characters out of both their motivations and of the villain getting justice.

I do love the leadup to Vergil helping Dante in that fight. Just "Man, I wanna fight YOU, not this random jobber asshole. Team up so we can have a REAL fight when we're done?" It's so perfect for both Dante and Vergil, which is so weird for how different they are. Probably one of the best rival team-ups for that alone. Although, everything about the end of Mission 19 all the way through 20 is pretty much impeccable anyway, but I still gotta say it's so, so good. Also, fun thing about that final fight? When Vergil uses Judgment Cut, he actually leaves himself wide open. The game expects you to dodge, but I absolutely love just going in with a Stinger. Staggers him and everything. It's like the game itself is going "Wait, what the fuck did you just do?!"

DT explosion only exists for Nero in 4, it’s seemless for Dante. 4. You don’t need netter for the just frame royal release. 5. It won’t be easier Pat, it’ll be the same it has always been, said by Itsuno himself. 6. Dante is said to already have surpassed Sparda by 4. 7. This boss is the worst boss in how hard and unfair it is in DMC3, especially in harder modes. 8. Nice end to the Arkham fight. 9. JACKPOT. 10. Perfect installation. 11. He does in fact use Helm Splitter festival on normal it seems. 12. No it’s just Force Edge that the amulets effects Woolie. 13. It didn’t cleave him in two, it’s just supposed to be that fictional slash through the opponent visually but it was just a really strong cut. Notes: That install was as good as the Arcana Heart. This LP is going down as a memorable one.
Lose DT eh? That's interesting. I never used RG because one bad block with chip damage would ruin your no damage run. The wall was simply too high. Even the secret mission in 4 that required 3 perfect guards in a row was hell for me.

I've heard it theorised somewhere that Dante and Vergil have the power to instinctively use any weapon they pick up, which actually makes sense as Lady doesn't tell Dante about the extra features on Kalina Ann or how they work.
A longtime childhood friend of mine borrowed this game to me when it was new and it was like a revelation after briefly playing DMC 2. I logged over 150 hours and unlocked/leveled up everything. Watching these two dorks gush over wacky wahoo pizza man adventures brings me back to those days when Jon was still alive. Thanks, guys.
I love that Pat and Wooly get just as stoked during the Jackpot scene as I do. It's really enjoyable to watch this game played by people that love the series as much as I do
It would be nice if Arkham fought Dante/the player for a short while as Sparda, and while he's strong enough to beat Dante around for a little while his body can't sustain Sparda's power -- THEN he'd turn into a blob monster. It'd be more impactful.
I love that the first Vergil Fight is you getting wrecked, the second one is Vergil going easy but you fighting him to a standstill, and the final one is Vergil getting serious but you manage to beat him.
I had no idea Vergil’s echoy “Dante...” stuck with people like it did me. That’s stuck with me since I beat the vanilla version back when I was a kid (I was around 11 or 12, 21 now)
[copy pasted some people's thoughts to some up my feelings] I'm not shocked that Pat and Woolie just ignore one of the best parts of the ending.That Dante tries to save Vergil and is genuinely and deeply saddened by his perceived loss? Like do we ever see Dante shed a tear ever again? Not to mention that Vergil's telling Dante to go could easily be interpreted as him trying to protect his brother. But instead we got jokes about Vergil being a sore loser... IDK, maybe it's just me, but that final interaction between them was so perfect to me because it shows that despite the animosity, and despite their differences, they're still brothers and they still love each other in their own dysfunctional way. Also Vergil going for Eva’s Amulet instead of Force Edge at the end. Fuck it’s so good. Vergil getting Eva's Amulet instead of Force Edge,the thing he's been after for the entire game, is easily one of my favorite scenes in the game. Such a small moment says a lot about him. It happened during Lady and Arkham's scene too. They tend to downplay big emotional moments in dumb action schlock. There's also them overdoing that "Dante's into someone who looks like his mom, ha ha ha" and yet have nothing to say about him trying to smooch Lady.

Pat, after beating the game Gunslinger only I wholeheartedly disagree. Gunslinger lvl3 can net you extra damage after the extended stun (shotgun stinger with mashing, that's 3 extra hits for free). Alternatively: you can mash his head with the hammer in swordmaster for extra damage. You can just use the roll or jump to avoid his attacks, it's not really a problem.
This has honestly been one of my favorite playthrough you guys have done. The commentary's super solid and taught me a lot more about the game than I already knew in addition to being hilarious, and of course this game is a masterpiece (I beat the game on Easy right around episode 2 or 3 of this playthrough and I'm going back through it on Normal with some of the tips and tricks you guys have given me). Everytime Devils Never Cry kicks in at the beginning of an episode I crank that volume. NEXT, ON TO DMC4

On DMD quicksilver is the safest for Vergil III. When he does His summon swords and DT allow you to stall him and blow up the swords with Kalina Ann. Jump cancelling killer bee to build DT
