As much as pat is put off by the Sparta outfit, its actually brilliant in mission 17 because he straight up looks like a Shakespeare character while the bullshit with agnus happens.
I like the small detail, that Vergil's judgement cuts tend to follow the target or just cover a huge area, while Dante's two judgement cuts are for two set distances, implying Dante is just copying the movements he remembers Vergil doing and he can't do much else till he figures out the weapon.
He's just pulling out the sword and sheathing it really fast, not even actually swinging it, but because he's seeing the Judgement Cut happen anyways he's just like "Eh, close enough."
It's honestly really cool detail, especially given in EVERY OTHER INSTANCE we've seen Dante just pick up and IMMEDIATELY master every single weapon he's ever gotten his hands on. Yamato might be the only time you get to actually distinguish, no, wait a minute, he's not actually perfect with anything other than maybe Rebellion. His skill floor is just so high it's hard to compare where it is relative to the skill ceiling but Vergil shows us Yamato's.
It's even more disgusting with Lady. If you get him in the right rhythm, you can just spam level 3 charge Kalina Ann shots and be done in 10-20 seconds.
As silly as "humans have heart!" sounds as a super power, it does make sense. Having empathy for others is one hell of a motivator to do everything in your power to protect what matters. Plus DMC has always had some surprisingly earnest and heartwarming messages buried beneath its gothic and stylish exterior.
This is legit what took me by surprise. I knew some DMC fans who made Dante sound like he’s a dick to people for no reason. Turns out he’s just a dick to demons cuz they uh eat people, but he’s the kinda guy who shoots you a sword n says ‘FUCK EM UP KID, YOU GOT THIS!’
Pat needs to watch the speedrun, it's mostly Pandora and Coyote on Savior. Hell, the first thing they do is Pandora laser Savior from half a continent away.

There is actually a quite serious discussion going on between Dante and Agnus regarding the nature of human belief and faith, but this is Devil May Cry and they will be dammed if it will not be as over the top and hamtastic as possible. Why, I could almost call the writing Shakesperian, but I wont. Edit: And yes, the quality Dante speaks of is a heart that can love. Humanity's ability to love and fight for what they love instead of endlessly searching for nothing but power and domination makes half demons more powerful than full blooded ones.
That's why Sparda and his descendants are so powerful. He was motivated by the woman he loved. Vergil craves power because he hates how he was too weak to save his mother. Dante is a good guy at heart who really does fight to protect others and probably also fights in the name of his mother's memory and the human heart she gave him. Nero desires power and is willing to become a demon for the sake of protecting the woman he loves. I believe Nero spells it out to Sanctus later; telling him that Sparda had possessed a heart capable of loving another, which is something the demonic Pope lacks as proven by his statement that love for another is a foolish thing.
I like how Dante has this whole side story about killing demons and destroying gates while that giant angel looking demon holding Nero and Kyrie captive are terrorizing Fortuna. So he's styling on all these demons while his nephew suffers, because he has to recover the weeblord blade from Beetleborg. Dante *IS* Filler Arc.
It's a shame Dante doesn't get a Motivation... I mean Concentration Bar once he gets the Yamato. I feel like there's a bit of unused space on top of his HUD that could be filled with one more bar.
Don't forget a magic meter for Lucifer (separate from DT) and ammo gauges for his guns. You're not designing a user interface correctly unless it's an indecipherable mess!

I said it on the last vid but I'll point it out here again: Lucifer is in some mythological sources the father of Belial. Mundus is the father of Berial. Lucifer, the devil arm, has the sign of Mundus' three eyes on it's skull. Mundus has a red laser attack in DMC1. Head-canon: Lucifer is the devil arm left behind after Mundus' defeat in DMC1.
No idea where the fuck Dante managed to find Yamato's sheath. I like to think he wasted several hours in that building just shuffling around trying to find where Agnus shoved the sheath.
The thing Humans have that demons lack are Guns. The entire time he's giving that speech to Agnus he's punctuating it with Ivory. No matter how powerful or intelligent the demon it'll never be able to hold a gat, even if it's able to become one.
I have a feeling Dante and Agnus's combined desire to goof generated the spotlights, if not in real life, in their hearts. Also I think Dante may actually just be controlling the force of his gunshots Maybe he's secretly an RPG character and the style points multiply the XP he gets from killing things, but he's so powerful at this point he can just 1-shot almost anything

@@demilung I feel like there's a little bit of handwaving in the game as to all that. Dante technically already was fighting the Order before Nero was absorbed. I guess you could argue he couldn't stop the latter from happening because Cutscene Dante's powers are limited to what the plot demands and what looks cool/funny at the time.
13:13 someone pointed out in the comments of an earlier video that Agnus' stutter is absent in his Angel form. He doesn't stutter ONCE during his performance. He was so into that setpiece he overcame his speech impediment. Agnus is more powerful than Pat, confirmed.
You look at how Yamato enters the savior and yeah, the sword totally impales Nero. Probably why it took him a moment to grab it; had to recover after his uncle stabbed him.

I saw a comic about this exact scenario, except Nero gets stabbed in the head. Don't remember the artist name, but if you look up "devil may cry memes" on google and go down far enough you should find it.
One regular Pandora shot will take out the orbs and is much less finicky than Yamato. You can also knock away some of Savior's swings with well-timed Drives, which can knock him over in that last phase.
You dont even need to time that shit with Lucifer. Get all three sets of pins out with Lucifer, then use climac (back and style in sword master. The one that sets them up all around you to explode on touch) Just fucking annihilates him when he swings that hand or elbow down on you

I know why Pat was having trouble with Judgement Cutting the Savior's crystals: he completely forgot there are close and long range variants of the move.
"For an opportunity to battle a being of such grand delusion as you, is a sweet fortune" is probably my favorite line in the game, purely because of reuben's performance. He really makes dante out to be the most sarcastic asshole in the world and I love it. It's also a very good piss-take on the villain.
I like how allmost every Dante's adventure is the basically filler arc, except 3 and 5... He goes somewhere, fucks around a bit, and return to the same pizza and boredom in his shop.

Okay so guys; I'm not gonna justify Dante's actions, but I'm going to explain them. Dante's reasons for letting Nero fight Sanctus first are basically the same reasons why Goku has Gohan fight Cell. He did it because he saw potential in the next generation and he wanted to give the next generation a chance to learn on their own how to surpass the previous generation; since he probably thought that he wasn't going to be around for much longer. That's the way I see it, but you guys can still obviously still make the judgment on weather or not that makes you a good role model, guardian, or parent.

I agree with the Cell saga comparison specifically for the part when Goku makes his son do it so he can experience that protagonists' ability to pass any obstacle and become the best. Depending on how the story of V plays out I may agree 100% with you in the future.
@@thelivingglitch307 Yeah I'll admit it kinda seems pointless if he is still kicken and is still able to kick butt by the end of V, but it might make sense if he at least implies in this game or V that he is starting to feel more and more tired as each day passes or with each time he DT's, gets massively injured, or over exerts himself. I imagine that eventually his human factor will play in at some point in V or the future where he'll, ware himself out like All Might, get too old to fight, or die from going too far past his body's limits. It would be cool to see him go out with a bang in 5; especially since he looks like he is on his way to retirement, but the fans probably wouldn't want it to end even though 5 games in my opinion should call for either a good ending or at least a change in protagonists! So if everyone doesnt know, all of dantes lock on forward sttack moves get buffed by being in devil trigger Rebellion's stinger turns from a thrust into a fucking magical drill that lets dante go through enemies Golgamesh's kick thirteen goes from five rapid kicks to fucking TWELVE, and the last two kicks is a move vergil has that launches you and the enemy up, and then launches the enemy even FURTHER up. Lucifers pin up move goes from throwing up four pins at once to fucking EIGHT (the max you can get to before they start exploding when new ones come out is something like fifteen). If you do DT pin up against bosses over and over, you will fucking MELT THEIR GOD DAMN HEALTH BAR, IT IS THE BIGGEST DPS IN THE GAME BESIDES DISTORTED REAL IMPACT. That shit is fucking nuts.
Wait, Pat, you never noticed that every single boss screenshot features the weapon from the previous boss? Really? I mean, I'm pretty sure the flower snake demon featured Rebellion, the frog featured Gilgamesh, and the fire centaur had Pandora, so why does mothman with Lucifer surprise you?
That play is the very spirit of fun that DMC truly embodied, which is something I love. It's also the spirit of fun... that DmC: Devil May Cry almost completely forgot about.
Imagine if Spider-Man (PS4) had a style system like DMC, that rewards you for switching things up and using all of your gadgets and various attacks. It wouldn't make the combat system perfect, but it would be a huge improvement.
Spider-Man PS4 is not a style action game. The combat system in that game was perfectly fine for what it was meant to service. It was smooth, fun and was designed to be simple. I feel like your criticism is pointless and reductive to what the game was meant to be. Designing a combat system like that is extremely difficult and takes resources that were afforded to other places that were more important.
You could literally say that about any game. "Imagine if God of War had a style system like DMC" "Imagine if Nier Automata had a style system like DMC" "Imagine if Omikron had a style system like DMC" None of those games are DMC. If you like DMC, then play DMC.

What Spider-Man's combat system has going against it is that it's fairly repetitive, and there isn't enough incentive to actually use all of your gadgets or to even mix things up in combat. You can go through the entire game just doing uppercuts and dodges, and you'll never be particularly punished for it. I feel like "It was designed to be simple" is a cop-out defense of a combat system that ultimately was more simplistic than it needed to be. Sure it's fun, but by the end of the game I felt like I was kinda done with it. I never felt that way when playing Prototype or any of the Arkham games. Don't get me wrong, Spider-Man is a super fun game. But saying "It could have been better" is still valid, because the game does have flaws.
@@14megasxlr Also, God of War wouldn't have needed it, because God of War DID incentivize you to mix things up and use all of your weapons and skills in combat, and DID punish you if you didn't. Not to mention the fact that Spider-Man's whole thing is styling on his enemies just like Dante does.
@@TwoStarPlayers Saying "It could have been better" is really not a good criticism. Anything "could have been better", but I doubt making the combat system more like DMC would have made it better. Spider-Man's combat is more complex than Arkham City's combat was, so if you're burnt out on it, it's likely just because you've seen the same combat system before. That doesn't make it bad. And if getting more points, or filling out all the optional challenges isn't enough "incentive" for you, then I doubt a style meter would be either. And no, designing something to be simple is a choice to make, not a cop-out. Because it gets you through the paces in a snappy and satisfying way. I never got bored of the combat, so I don't know what your problem is. I did every single mission and side mission in the game purely because it was fun. God of War only "incitivised" you to switch things up by making some enemies immune to certain weapons, so if you want more of that go play DmC Devil May Cry if you want shit game design like that. It's not fun, it's annoying. And Spider-Man is not about "styling" like Dante is. He mocks his enemies, but his persona is still rooted in a much more down to earth and practical sense of combat. Comparing him to Dante shows a shallow understanding of his character. He's a scientist and a super-hero. Not a nigh invincible half-demon.
There is an actual explanation as to why Dante can just shoot the bosses dead and Nero can't. Nero is only using regular bullets while Dante is firing small magic bullets. Seeing as how Dante is the unstoppable god king of the DMC universe, he could always just end it with something like that, but he waits until the end for more style points because it's more fun that way.

4:25 Woolie the liar back at it again. It's actually like a mine as demonstrated at 8:10 They blow up when someone runs into them, which is why you need to pin up the max amount and then pull them so it's a big circle of mines. Also a lie about blades coming from the blindside at 7:42. DMC4 doesn't trigger enemy attacks unless they're close to you or on the active screen. If the enemies start the trigger just before the camera moves off them they still carry on and finish the attack. It's really only bosses that are the exception to that rule. It's the big thing I really dislike about Bayonetta or MGR because they do actually still attack when they're off the screen. Also I don't know if you know Pat, but there are 2 pause combos for Lucifer. You kept doing one of them [swordx2(...) sword] where he pulls 4 pins behind him, but there another one [swordx4(...) mash] where he does like a rapid pin shoot into the enemy. Praises for Woolie for telling Pat to stop for the borb fragment, but then misses the secret mission right after. 26:10 Woolie is right Pat. There are 2 distances you can cut with the Yamato. Close and Far, and you can control which one. We know that Pat hates directional inputs though.

Either his only true passion is theater, or that scene is Dante retelling it and refraining from making fun of his stutter, cause he honestly believed for a second that he might not have thrown his humanity away entirely when walking in on him like that.
the fact that dante can just one shot everything in the game during his cutscenes with his handguns proves two things, he's only fihgitng them with mellee cuz he thinks it's fun and when he's shooting them outside of cutscenes, he's missing on purpose, he's literally pulling an alucard, lmao XD
Pat you were having difficulty hitting the savior weak spots because you used the wrong Yamato attack. You did the close range version for ones far away and the far away version for the ones that were close.
Lucifer is one the fastest boss killers with DT when you do the move that just slams them in in the fan shape. Literally kills bosses in seconds no matter the difficulty.
