Interestingly enough, Bob Barbas mentions a kindly woman at St. Lamia's who loved taking care of children, and Lamia was known in mythology to eat children. I think this was supposed to be a plot thread about how most of the deaths and crimes Dante is accused of were actually him fighting demons that came after him for what he was, but the writers were nowhere near good enough to pull that off.
i mean, that was already pretty implied from the references in the brief time they spent acknowledging his childhood. It didnt really need anything more.

That boss fight was kind of neat, in the visual aspect at least. And here we have Demonic Punk Clock Morgan Freeman raising an important point that will be all but forgotten until being abruptly brought back at the end because we gotta please the fans whose opinions we definitely don't care about. As it stands it seems really weird that Dante is being told to do something for another characters personal motivations instead that are only revealed later. Maybe this scene could have been better if the Old man was warning Dante seeing as he can apparently see things differently than others.
He was warning him, but not in a direct way, he is saying "oh, you wanna kill mundus? Cool, but what happens after? Have you ever thought about that?" Which is why he is so dumbfounded. He starts doing it for Vergil, because he is his brother and is the first family he has in a while, besides he has nothing else to do so might as well; but as you see in the way to the slurm factory and inside it, he starts to realize how bad the demon bussiness is fucking up people and realizes he can stop that if he chooses to fight instead of just wandering without a goal, because Kat shares the same function as Lady in 3, to give Dante a purpose, a reason to care (also, notice how he hasn't drinked in the entire game besides that opening scene, and he doesn't even smoke in the game at all) Vergil killing the baby was him making true Phineas' words (remember how he says he is a prophet, and sees things differently), it wasn't that he was directly influenced and more like "you are fighting against Mundus, the literal ruler of the world, and you are just you, so you will take any chance to hurt him, even killing his son, eventually". And it could also be seen as a reflection of what Mundus did to the twins, he killed their mother, so now Vergil kills Mundus' child, and is meant to show that Vergil is as bad as/is similar to Mundus and he will take his place (although it is just my take, it could all be just a coincidence in that matter)
That...that is literally what this is. God, that is the most accurate statement of this game. It's Suicide Squad the Game. It's taking a cool concept, great inspiration, and ruining it with weird edgy hot topic cringe.

Why does the demon reporter give an angel weapon? Is he a fallen angel? Are some of the prisoners he keeps other angels that refused to turn and that’s why there aren’t any angels fighting Mundus? There’s something there but neither the writers nor the audience cares enough to actually find an answer.
Because there needed to be 2 angel weapons and 2 demons weapons, and Ninja theory wasn't thinking. There even isn't really and explination about SOuls and the actual difference between angels and demons. Rebellion isn't even a demon weapon despite being sparda's. Some people have come up with a BS excuse about how Dante's nephilim body could change it into something it wanted
You know what would have made this boss fight work better? Is if you got the Devil Trigger during the parts where Dante sees the police going after Vergil and Kat and the place where he got the DT originally was just a weapon pick up, would have made more sense that Dante unlocks his power through that similar to how Original Dante did out of desperation and getting his ass kicked by Virgil.
Again, it feels like the angels were originally meant to play a MUCH larger role than they ended up playing(said role being Sparda fucked one and made Dante and Vergil)
I mean his whole catchphrase is “Doing God’s Work” and just talks about how much of a Disgusting Sinner dante is so I think he’s an angel just not a positive representation of one and more of an extremist Christian thing
How to make a good boss, the Ninja Theory way: 1. Take three other bosses from previous games. 2. Dress it up as a Disney movie villain. 3. Make it resemble someone you don't like, points if it's "social commentary". 4. Make it sound like something out of an Irvine Welsh novel. And you're done! You've made a memorable boss with minimal effort!

The reason Morrison is black in DMC5 compared to his anime counterpart is because Itsuno saw Phineas and liked the idea of an old black guy telling Dante where to go for his missions.
One of the theories I like is that Morrison is just a name handed to government workers meant to watch over Dante since he's basically the second coming of Christ.
Its crazy people will bend over backwards to defend the wiring, because it's not... Good. There's the occasional exchange, that lands, but this would hardly pass in other mediums
as badly handled as a lot of the writing is I will say the whole concept of dante killing demons in public looking like he’s killing normal people to everyone else is a really cool concept. Reminds me of the beginning of DMC4 when he just goes ham in the church because the priests were actually demons
Can confirm there are quick retries in DMCV. Saw a gameplay demo where a guy played a secret mission, failed, and it cut to an option asking if he wanted to quit or retry.
Stupid thing 9: the Bob Barkus fight is pretty cool conceptually and visually, but honestly the fight itself is pretty boring. Hit the glowing floor glyph, beat up the talking head, smash some more floor glyphs, grapple to his stunned eye, beat up regular demons, repeat. That said, this games complete lack of subtlety at least makes everything entertaining to watch in a so bad it's good way. Speaking of, I forgot about the dramatic zoom in on Donte's face after Phineas after he asks him who would take over after Mundus. He all like "Durr...what does that mean?". It's hilariously stupid. Extra fun fact: Aquilla is by far my favourite weapon in this game, largely because unlike most of the DmC weapons its moveset is more than existing moves from previous DMC weapons, and it's pretty fun to use. I'd go as far as to say it's pretty OP.
Ok so the Bill O'Riley boss fight part is probably the best place for me to assert that this game is the Che Guevara T-shirt of video games. It uses an ineffectual anticapitalist aesthetic to try to sell itself based on the idea of a flaccid, corporate friendly brand of rebellion, and in the background of its creation rubs its bootheel in the face of actual anticapitalist rhetoric.
You’re basically just fighting a disco ball and it’s lame because you supposed be a fighting a literal TV network. Imagine all wacky and crazy possibilities if Ninja Theory were a bit more creative and out there.

Actually that's an idea they came up with in the novelized version of the first game. Essentially demons have some kind of human trigger where they can assume human forms for some reason like Sparta did. Supposedly they use their forms to move around among humans without drawing too much attention until they find a proper moment to strike out.

Okay, that boss fight with Bob was easily the most interesting thing I've seen from this game so far (which isn't saying much, but still... nice visuals and such)
I think it's Devil Trigger in terms of this game because Satan/Lucifer was an angel then fell from grace and became a demon. Devil can be seen as a title, hence why they never refer to any Demons in the game as devils. The way Phineas refers to Dante's true potential as his inner Devil may refer to balancing the demonic and angelic powers within and awakening his true power, albeit for a few brief moments.
Question: Mundus is immortal right? In that case why would he want or care about having a child? Does he plan on letting his kid run things for a bit so he can on vacation? Also how does he only have ONE? He’s been alive for CENTURIES!
As a demon lord, I would say it's because he literally crushed every puss he ever slammed into and thus no woman survived to have his child. But considering that we did actually see him fucking Lilith and it was tame as fuck, I'm going to say it's because he didn't think about kids until his brother had some before him and that super pissed him off so in some childish way he decide "EeeEEeeh fuck you brother Sparda! I can get a girl preggers too!" And that's why he really killed Eve and wanted to kill Dante and Vergil, he didn't want to be known as the loser king of hell that was still a virgin while his wimpy secretary of a brother got laid before he did.

Yeah the lesser Damascus and the Damascus are my favorite enemies from this game. They remind me of an enemy from Singularity but the Singularity monster was way cooler especially the last encounter.
someone told me that the cool double sword guy is Vergil trying to test how strong Dante is, that's why he never really spawn in packs like the other enemies, and that's why Vergil has the mask, it'ss because Vergil fought the actual demon before and killed him, then took his maks as a trophy.... is this true ??... cuz this looks and sounds cool, but i don't want to give any credit to Ninja theory.... lmao
@Aegis Reflector I dunno about it being legit, but I remember Foxcade did a retrospective on the series and he mentioned how that enemy being Vergil in disguise would've helped bridge the eventual fight between him and Dante.
Guys, i think i understood what NT meant by Shakespearian writing. Basically Shakespeare wrote crude and vulgar stuff for uncoltured people mixing it with highly philosophical subplots to please the accoltured nobles too. Too bad that this game has none of that refined philosphy, or maybe the writers were so arrogant that they thought their story was deep despite being appearently shit.
Well, it seems to me that the writers had lofty ideals but were poor at executing them. It's also likely that their concept of deep and philosophical is actually really shitty, and are too ignorant to realize how dumb they are.
This game gets a lot of hate, and rightly so, but it does have some cool ideas and good points. The Bob Barbas fight is probably the best in the game and visually one of the best in the entire Devil May Cry series. The Aquila is also a cool weapon whose concepts I hope get expanded on in another weapon in DMC5.
It’s at this point I truly realized how an utter waste it was to make Dante and Vergil part Angel because they never really do anything interesting with Angels in this game. You can honestly remove it and it wouldn’t change anything.
My hope, if they ever get the green light for a sequel, is to bring in the Angels and have them be this holier than thou race that looks down on humankind and only wants to fight the demons. Also they would take offense to Dante cause of him being a Nephilim.
@@TheSSBBfan666 That would work a lot, especially since Vergil shows some of those traits. If that is how these Angels are, it would tie into Vergil embracing half of heritage, like in the main series.

Honestly, the reason you probably forget about the weapons is because there is no big memorable you got the weapon cutscene. It's oh hey some demon or angel energy touched me, new weapon now use it.
Battling a giant, distorted, yelling, potato Head still freaks me out, but I still love that wierd digital tunnel area right before the fight, as well as the wierd fight itself. Eitherwise, playing the game was just depressing.

The kid is innocent. Mundus is not. Vergil killing the kid was probably the right tactical move (it robbed Mundus of an heir and made him easier to remove from the hell gate). But it was morally wrong. He killed an innocent being.

I like the idea of a digital/electronic demon, and in Bob's case he was more like a demon that took over the CCTV of the news/surveillance system, that's awesome in concept and execution and by the looks of the DMC5 trailer there was a mechanic four-legged thing that may be or not a demon, i hope it is but if not, that would be a genuine wasted oportunity. Also, i love how the scenarios/levels have their own colors: the bay where you start is red, the house is also reddish with a hint of orange, the city is orange with blue and yellowish shadows, the slurm factory is yellow, orange and green, the prison is pure blue; is a genuine cool thing and i'm amazed no one has said it yet since it's so easy to see
