To be fair "Dodging" Riku, by stopping your combo and walking around him, is pretty fucking jank compared to any future fights where you have your proper block and roll
@@BaneDane_JB it´s easy when you know he only falls every fourth attack and since you start wtih a three Attack combo it´s forcing you to pay attention. Its just hard to notice something like that while comenting
Today's Kingdom Hearts Tid bit: remove the hooded jacket Sora wears and you'll find, it's just a red onsie Also I'm gonna give Woolie big ups for just having a guide open from the get go. This game can be a bit convoluted on what you have to do, and with them worried about taking too long, it was a good call
I played through most of the KH games recently with guides open so I wouldn't miss any cool stuff/powerful gear, and I gotta say, I cannot imagine going through Tarzan world blind.
yep matt just needs to be a commentator these problems literally never happen with the other two, get lost yes, forget or not understand a mechanic yes, but not physically hitting every button on the controller to find out what they do no only matt has that problem

Soooooo. Context? It's implied through later games that Sora and riku's parents (and/or other adults) built up more of those structures on that play island for the kids. Sora and riku seem to have been the only ones playing there for almost a year, until kairi showed up and sora (and maybe riku) invited her to join. It's hinted by wakka not knowing about the Secret Place that he, tidus and selphie haven't been coming to hang out there long, since that cave has been used by the main trio for about 9 years. Doesn't seem like sora riku or kairi have shared any of what they found or do there with anyone else, and are intending on taking that raft adventure by themselves. (Also, contextually, this part of the game might've taken place during or near the end of summer vacation, which is why no one's in school)
My headcanon while playing through the series was that Riku became evil because Sora thought Highwind was a really stupid name while Riku thought it was the coolest ever. And then Riku would try and rename everything to have Highwind in the title as Sora made fun of his shit taste in names.
@@SonicMegaKing Interesting that you brought that up, because I remember in KH1, Sora and everybody else was calling him a "keyblade master" but retconned in KH2 by calling him a "key wielder" to introduce the Key Mastery Exam.
Really disappointed Pat's not here. I would love for woolie and Matt to be either excited or confused about the game and Pat to drunkenly explain things to them. Like the grumpy grandpa watching his grandkids playing call of duty.
hahaohwow this entire series is crazy talk though. Hey remember when organization 13 died? Well they didn't! Axels dead! Roxas is never coming back! Aquas ok! Just crazy talking all over the place. It's like every time pat mentioned KH in the past it altered the future timeline or something.
After Woolies play with Liam on Nier, I don't want Liam near anything they do anymore.. Which is crazy for me to say because Liam used to be my favorite member.
@MrDesgo From my knowledge, it was from Liam's playthrough of KH1. He knew about the island from things he had heard, but when he finally played the game, he discovered that his headcanon of kids living alone in an island was wrong.
MrDesgo Probably happens next episode but people assumed that the kids are all stranded orphans. You'll later see a cutscene with sora in his bedroom when his mom asks him something from another room. She's never mentioned from that point on and everyone even sora acts like she never existed. Worse yet in KH2 you find out they were never even stranded. There's a mainland island not far from there that kairi goes to school on.

I absolutely love that Matt pauses the cutscene so they could talk about bullshit without missing the story. If this continues, this could be the best play through on the channel in awhile.
Matt not realizing he's only locked in because he mashed attack doesn't bode well. A lot of the harder fights rely on your ability to know when to stop attacking and get out of the way, and I can already see him blaming the game for "locking him in".
I think one of his main complaints is lack of a dodge roll which is fair, it’s standard in every other action game to have roll or block by default but you unlock it when beating the 1st real world of this game. Now we’ll just have to see how long it takes them to gain the dodge ability in KH2FM.....
Just keeping score of your wins and losses against Riku does a lot to create a feeling of rivalry. I remember making a similar observation in the A Way Out LP.
It’s funny too cause the very next part coming up is a race between Sora and Riku doing a lap around the second area of the island and it’s to see who gets to choose the name of the boat, and whatever you typed in iirc is used as the name of your first custom space ship when that gets unlocked so that part actually does affect something a little
As an idiot child I was obsessed with beating Riku to the point where I didn't stop til I had like friggin 20+ wins on him. When he became the villain I was more than pleased lol

I'm kinda worried with Matt on controls. I played and beat this as an eleven year old and even then I instinctively understood the revenge value system after fighting Riku. Like, that's what he's there for, to teach you that some enemies will only take so much of your shit. Matt not getting that Riku will take four hits then counter with a kick worries me. It's so consistent and he complains that it seems random? It's nice to know that Woolie has a guide open I guess.
His lack of spacial awareness is whats gonna really hang the LP up on this game specifically, if he can't remember a whole side of the beginning island there's for sure gonna be issue's later.
don't worry about it. I never noticed that as a kid (I still didn't notice as an adult! I thought it was random) and I had no trouble beating it on pure instinct. you can see and learn the little tells for enemy attacks even if you aren't aware of it.
It's constantly referred to as a single island, and they're building a raft to get off of it. It's perfectly understandable to assume that's all there is until the later retcon shows that it's not.
I'm not gonna lie, I only found out it wasn't an isolated island when Liam mentioned it. I was always super confused by Kairi going to school and being in a town and whatnot during KH2. I just assumed she'd be transported to some other world (Hollow Bastion I guess) and was living there happily somehow for some reason.
I mean, you kinda need all kinds of testers, or else you wouldn't run into edge cases from both a stability and design standpoint. Of course, the downside is that you can get people like Valve's playtesters and have to work off those.
@@zummone yeah, but a tester should be mentally capable of actually paying attention and hitting all the buttons vs just saying he did and ignoring what was told to him/actively trying to dodge doing something they were asked to try

honestly I love how the dialogue was *specifically* ambiguous. Riku could have very much meant he and Sora share one, or all three of them. no love triangles here we go for ot3 in this house
it getting way more quiet in later games reminds me of how they made it only beep a couple times then stop in the most recent main series pokemon games. game devs realized HP alarms suck
Im not going to lie the billion heartless room fillled with invisibles and angel stars right at the end is gonna be rough. I hope Pat shows up uninvited to offscreen grind at 2 AM whilst they sleep, IE breaking and entering, as he often does to the JRPGs of other people.
Last episode woolie did the grand wizard wakka voice again. Will he realize he should just start talking like that all the time? Will matt lapse back into a drunken rage? Will pat come in to be wrong abour the kingdom hearts plotline? Probably.

Matt & Woolie not paying much attention to the story than they should and talking over the cutscenes constantly because God forbid they allow themselves investment into Kingdom Hearts?
I tried playing through this game for the first time like a year ago and had to stop there. It's probably one of the worst levels in any game I've played.
"Yeah why not?" - Matt right before he doesn't rotate his saves. Pat would be screaming at him right now, and he'd be right to do it. Hopefully we won't reach part 32 and then get an announcement about how the save file was lost and the LP is now cancelled.
Its always funny to see how much trouble Riku gives people once you know how he works. Every 4th strike on him will have him fall back to kick, and once you know that, he basically is impossible to lose to.
You aren't going to miss anything important in chests on the island, I don't think, but remember you can jump pretty high if you just hold the button. Also: push things. Don't just whack them with your sword.
Matt let me ask you something. If you owned a monkey, would that be slavery? The answer is no because you don't consider yourself the equal of a monkey even though genetically you are very similar. So why would Micky, Donald or Goofy consider themselves the same as a regular feral animal in their world?

@@gaminggoddess85 Jaguar and Stealth Sneak were nerfed in Final Mix. You just have to be at a decent level and it's about as easy as other bosses. Even ESAM, a blind player playing KH for the first time (and also struggling to use Items and navigate the Command Menu overall), had little problem.

I'm sure they've found out by now but the Music was composed by the legend herself Yoko Shimomura. She composed all KH games, Parasite Eve, the Mario RPG and the Mario and Luigi series. Not to mention STREET FIGHTER TWO!
I'm glad they're using a guide so they don't get stuck, which is quite easy to do in this game if you're playing it for the first time. I'm also concerned that Woolie is already telling Matt to do things in the wrong order.
Only two parts in and the frustration is getting bigger. From Matt not fighting Wakka to him not even simply hitting the X button just one more time to use a potion and saying he's hitting all the buttons, I'm gonna lose it!
