" Your brother too was a great fighter. I deeply regret Your loss n I offer myself as your brother.." definitely one if the best movie lines of times... this done it for me 😪😪
Even years later, as a grown man, that last scene still makes me cry, I dont know why, maybe it's a story of raw emotions, forgiveness acceptance and mutual respect and understanding, such a deep storyline in this film, wow.....👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻😥😥
these two fighters are actually brothers in real life, which is why they could have such an emotional ending like this... One of the best martial arts movies I've ever seen, someone needs to upload the entire movie
i watched this movie when i was 10 with my dad now i am 40 and still cry when i see this scene ... beautiful movie. Today they don't make such films anymore ... 😭😭😭
The late, great Floyd Patterson once said: it's easy to do anything in victory; it is in defeat that a man reveals himself. Every time I see this movie, my eyes just well up! We would think that Dae Han was a vicious man, but as it turns out he was quite an honorable man at heart. Simon Rhee did a great job here with his real-life brother Philip Rhee aka Tommy Lee.
It truly shows the spirit of the arts, be it karate, taekwondo or otherwise. It also has an important message that, even if you do not win a tournament or become top of your class, as long as you do your best, you will never have truly lost.
The first time I saw this movie when I purchased it on DVD a couple years ago, I couldn't help but cry when it came to this ending scene. And it still does to this day.
That's the movie that got me into martial arts. Many great fight movies around the same time but none captured the true essence and spirit of martial arts like this one did. Forgiveness, compassion, heart, courage, spirit...best of the best had it all.
I once met Eric Roberts and told him I remember him from this film. He was surprised and delighted when I told him and said I remember the lines at the end he said. Nice guy.
No lie, this movie taught me discipline, honor, and respect. I watched this over and over again with my good friends as kids. Without this, i wouldn't be who i am today. Thank you!
If I were in Tommy's shoes, I'd still be mad at the coach for taking away from me the pleasure of murdering my brother's killer, but that's just me I guess
The most underrated movie of the 80’s. Full of heart, funny and had a good message of forgiveness. Plus it’ll still make me tear up even now. Also, impossible to tell by the actors that play Dae Han and Tommy and are brothers in real life.
I introduced this movie to my friends and they were making fun of it the whole time. Once this scene started, everyone was sucked into it. Everyone shut up and all eyes were on the screen. It's truly a moving scene. Great movie!
In my 30's n still makes me teary, this ending is gold and unforgettable, this movie is NOT cheesy even in 2017, Great message, Great acting, Great music, Great cut scenes, and you got Darth Vader showing mercy, I wish the new generation of kids could watch this, u learn the definition of Honor in its purest form.
This is the type of martial arts movies I grew up with... What a time to have lived with such privilege. 40 years later and it still brings me to tears.
I've seen, like so many others who watched this video many, many movies. But this one, this part made me cry. And, I am not ashamed to admit it! I have tried with considerable success to teach my kids about the art of defense and even more importantly, the art of honor. To cement my point, I made them watch this entire movie and they loved it. It delivered the message that I was looking for perfectly! I salute the writers of this movie and the actors as well. I can only pray that my children received the message this movie was famous for. At least in my mind anyways.
When I saw this as a kid the emotions hit so hard I started balling. It really was overwhelming. Never really dealt with that kind of emotion until that point.
after all these years, and I am a grown man now, I shed a few man tears over that. Still one of my favorite martial arts movies has been since I was a kid.
This is easily the Greatest Martial Arts movie of all time, great acting, and the moves...you cant fake. Peace to all brothers and sisters of all arts, we are one! We stand united! Always.
Can't help but cry. The love, compassion, humility, honor and forgiveness in this movie I have also seen in many South Korean young men. Their families should be proud.
I’ve just watched this. I remember seeing this for the first time and tears streaming down my face. Yet it’s taught me that time is a great healer and that life is too precious to hold grudges. Even now my bottom lip is shaking!
I've watched this movie 7 times, and seen the ending over a dozen times here and there. Every time I see it I cried. I totally felt the honor, spirit, dedication, determination, courage, and above all,LOVE. This movie deserves the title,Best of the Best.
"To save a life in defeat is to earn victory from within". I always ponder Dae Han's words when I am victorious in life and especially when I have to forgive those who harmred my loved ones and truly repented
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid with my big bro. Now I’m 36 and I don’t even know where my bro is. Damn this movie hit me hard. Thinking back to the days when we used to play and be best friends. Now I’m divorced life in shambles. Watched this on Netflix on Father’s Day no less, and god damnit it hit me right in the feels. It sucks growing up and how life changes. I just cried like a big baby.
1989 I was 18 when I watched this with my 54 year old Mr. Miyagi looking filipino dad... I'm boo- hooing at this part, look over at my dad who's also crying but he denies it by saying..'ah, I hab somting in my eyes... Greatest moment ever!
Every time I watch this scene I start to cry a bit. It's so good. This movie really got you invested in what happened between these two. He's painted as the Badguy only to have the audience realize he's not. He killed his brother on accident and it clearly haunts him. And then the other guy finally lets go of his need for revenge and hugs as if they were brothers. Like almost no other movie like this has ever made me feel so strongly. It starts as a cheesy 80s type action martial arts movie and by the end becomes a totally different film. Best of the best so under rated.
A Rare movie which displays the honor in Martial Arts, And that winning isn't everything. You don't see a lot of that in movies these days. And the end here is an painfully underrated tear-jerk moment.
What I love about this ending is that it completely subverts all expectations, i.e. they hand them the gold. We see that the Korean team are not really bad people, but just as humble as the Americans and morally surprising.
One of the best scenes in the Best of the Best, it made me cry... It had to do with honor, and accepting the strength and courage through your opponents as well..
I have watched this movie my whole. There are no words, that can express what i see, when I see this movie. I just start crying. Used to take karate. I know, what respect - honor mean.
Wow.. odd to see how many people has cried after seeing this ending.. I have seen this when I was a kid and I cried then.. and almost now.. Great movie..best of the best.
Watched this movie för the first time over 30+ years ago, now I'm 45 still this scen makes me cry as if I watched it for the first time. Love this movie. Love it when Dae Han offers himself as his brother, Tommy wanted to kill a man but got a brother instead.
As a little kid just starting in Martial Arts, I absolutely loved it. I could watch it over and over. And to this day, after seeing well over 100 times that final scene still brings tears as if we're the very first time I had seen it.
When that clock is ticking and you see tommy flashing back omg the pain... he was so tortured by the loss of his brother and felt so alone in that grief & yet Dae Han was equally tortured from being the one responaible for that very loss, they both dealt with the loss in very different and yet similar ways both bonded by tragedy and honor... when dae han pledges himself to always be there for tommy its the first time the audience of the film truly understands that Dae Han wasnt this monolithic bad guy he was a kid who competed in a tournament years ago and unfortunately took the life of his opponent a mistake anyone of us could have made and him offering himself to tommy was all he had to right a wrong he never intended ... god this movie had so many lessons
i agree. that and the fact he along with two other of the korean fighters on the team had alex's back in best of the best 2 when they went into that underground fight pit to get tommy out.
The interesting thing is that these two are brothers in real life, Phillip Ree and Simon Ree, I think this is why this scene feels so authentic, only between brothers can there be the fiercest battles ... but also the most touching reconciliations.
This movie is so underrated as a great martial arts movie and dramatic movie. One of my favorite movies ever. The ending always gets to me, even today, after I've seen it hundreds of times.
theactionelite.com/2015/06/interview-with-phillip-rhee/ I wouldn't remind a remake of this as long as a producer/star of the original movie took charge. But I hope they use real martial artists. I was so disappointed with the Power Rangers reboot because of the lack of any martial arts fighting.
You kidding me , man!! I was in tears at the end. It was such a touching scene. I was really into TKD back in those days. I t was the 1st martial arts I studied.
wow after over 30+ years first time i watch this scene again, its still hits me hard. We were like 7 year old kids back then, a handfull one, didnt fully understand english, back it hit us all hard this particular scene.
A frase do cartaz desse filme é maravilhosa: EXISTE UM TIPO DE CORAGEM QUE NÃO IMAGINAMOS TER. ATÉ QUE CHEGA UM DIA EM QUE ELA É A ÚNICA COISA QUE SE TEM.
