Learning to throw putters is a skill players can often move past pretty quickly, especially when they are chasing the big distance as a beginner. There is something beautiful and helpful to finding a disc that you can throw extremely straight, so we went to two of the best straight putters on the market, the Discraft Fierce designed by Paige Pierce and the Latitude 64 Pure thrown famously by Kristin Tattar. So how do these fly in comparison? Which one would I recommend as best for beginners?? You’ll have to watch to find out!!

ESP Fierce (PP tour series bottom stamp) is one of my most reliable approach discs if I need a straight OR a right side finish. So easy to throw. With a neutron soft envy, a couple zones, and a fierce, i've got all my approaches covered.

I bag three Fierces. Two of them are my putting putter in baseline, and a Big Z Fierce as my turnover and straight throwing putter. LOVE them!

The Deputy is far more understable in my experience. I don't use the Fierce. But I have 6 Pures, very good for straight throws, but I use a couple of Pures for their a little greater understability; resuming: a light Opto Air Pure and a Zero Hard Pure are more understable, an Opto Pure is slightly overstable; other two Pures - zero soft - are eminently straight, the last Pure is an old Zero Medium Pure that I use eventually only for putts).

I currently bag an Opto Pure and a Medium hard… Those are my dead straight putters…in the more stable slot, I have an eclipse proxy:..and my understable slot is a fierce. I love them all!

If you do more 3 speeds for beginners, you should definitely check out the Lone Star Penny, the Westside Swan 1 Reborn, and the RPM Tui.

Great video Robbie! I throw mostly trilogy, and the Pure is my throwing putter. Fantastic disc. I like beads for putting, so I use the Judge, but everything else needs to be beadless for hand feel.

Great video. As someone that bags both of these, I have heard people online compare these discs (call them both understable) and it always made me laugh. But I was cracking up watching Robbie throw both and then have an absolute battle within himself trying to explain why the Fierce keeps flipping and how weird it was that the Pure seemed to go straight.😂 People go a little nuts trying to call the Pure an understable putter. The Pure is my lazer straight putter, and the Fierce is super flippy and great for sweeping anhyzers.

PURE! my most used disc. I use it for putting. Approach and even as a midrange. Love it for the narrow woods holes too.

I putt with the Pure in C1 - PA-5 in C2. Best combo in the game. I Approach with both those discs in Premium Plastic Opto Pure and 400 PA-5. Having only 2 molds makes the feel consistent and confident. I would love to see the PA-5 battle the Proxy.

I started out w/the Pure and really liked them for throwing and putting, but I've never thrown the Fierce. Looks like they're not exactly the same stability wise. I have since switched to using the Fission Envy (more neutral to stable) and the Neutron Proxy (more understable when thrown hard) for both throwing and putting. I prefer premium plastics even for putting. I really like this series, but I have a nagging thought. What if instead of Robbie throwing the discs and deciding if they're good for beginners, he has actual beginners throw the discs? 🤔 Or might that just become more "hilarious content" and less valuable? Or he could have one or two beginners throw and then he can also throw to give us a more advanced flight of the discs? Nevertheless, appreciate the videos. Always a great job done there, Robbie. 👍

The main difference (at least how I have experienced them) is that the Pure is more or less a Pure in every plastic. Obviously they wear and season at different rates, grip differences, etc. But if you like bagging few molds in different stages of wear, the Pure is money. But the Fierce can be almost a whole different disc in different plastics. Which some people like. But from a beginner standpoint, it's more of a challenge to learn and get comfortable with throwing the "same disc" but not being confident in how it's going to leave your hand.

I actually bag both the PA5 and the Proxy. They are not even close to each other. It may be the plastic that I have but the PA5 is supper flippy. I use it all the time in the woods to hyser flip and turn over. To give you an idea my PA5 is close to a pearl, my son's PA5 has more stability. So I think the plastic has a lot to do with it.

Also, yes on the Proxy from your end reflection, but I think it needs broken in quite a bit, it is a bit stable out of the box. I left one behind that was my absolute favorite disc for the past year and was pretty beat up. Easy to lace 200' shots. Now I need to start over. Another consideration is the P model US from prodigy. Pretty straight right off and the premium plastic feels great.

Robbie, always enjoy the vids. Maybe invest in a shot tracer for your tee shots, I often lose them in the shot. Just a thought.

The opto flag-dyed pure was the first putter i ever fell in love with. Now, i throw a Reko in that slot. Technically, 3,4,0,1 but you have to subtract 1 turn from all Kastaplast numbers.

I like the glitch for straight shots. For me the pure is more stable than the glitch I have thrown.

Those Big Z are pretty understable for a Fierce. Z Swirl and Cryztal Fireces have been in my bag for a while now and will likely never leave, prob more like -1 turn on those plastics. They dont turn over like the Big Z, and will hold the line you put it on. Consistently throwing those fierces the same line and distance as my lunas.

I bag a Kristin tattar pure and it flips up on a slight hyzer and will hold the line with just a slight fade at the end of the flight. When I throw it at full power it turns over, so I tend to throw it 50-75% power and focus on throwing a smooth slight hyzer flip up

Poa Supina is a wonderful grass cultivar that grows exceptionally in shade. Being likely south of the transition zone you’re probably looking at St Augustine or Zoysia.

I threw approaches and putts with my starter set Aviar for quite a while before I got more into dg. For an absolute beginner it was fine for me, because my form was not good. As I improved I figured out that it was 149g which made it terrible for any wind and turned forever on harder throws. So definitely take weight and plastic into account. I now have a Penny Putter in glow plastic 173g, it's a great all-around stable putter which is great for learning shot shapes. I may pick up a shallower disc for a throwing putter tho.

I'd like to suggest the Gateway Magic, my current putter in s4 plastic, can be a little soft in the heat, but sticks very well.

I had trouble getting clean releases with both of these molds. I play with people that throw these molds very well, but they just never worked for me. I ended up settling on the Proxy, particularly in eclipse plastic.

Love this! I have the fierce as my putting putter and it in fly dye z. Would love to get it in cryztal. But i like the look of the pure too! May have to try it. Id be curious to see hownunderstable thr pa5 is. Especially then ti hear your thiughts on it comapred to the fierce. Ive never tried pa5 since i have the fierce.

Also, I absolutely love the Pure. I personally use a Keystone for both approach (opto plastic) and as a putter in a softer plastic, but I got the Pure as a starter for my wife and she absolutely loves it. I’ve thrown it a few times and am heavily considering adding it to my bag

Pure is less expensive than the fierce so pure all the way but i lost my pure throwing it on ny last hole so my proxy is my new straight to fading right disc

It think it's worthwhile comparing the price b/w Pure & Fierce. The $20 putter still feels prohibitive for me as a casual player; let alone someone starting. There's so many great options that compare well with Pure's quality and cost. Would be more interesting to see Pure compared with Proxy or new Candy

The Pure in Retro Burst, Zero, soft, medium, hard plastic are cheaper than 20 €, for what I can say as an European. Their cost is usually around from 10,90 € to 13,90

My Pink Gold Pure have been in the sun a lot this summer, color faded a lot on the top... I think it might have stabeled it up, needs testing ;) My Crystal Z Sparkle 3xEPO Fierce needs to hit more trees to get less stable, it feels a bit weird throwing on an actual anny compared to the Deputy FOR ME and is WAY more stable so far. I want to try the Deputy in a premium plastic, never seen them in stock :(

Ive heard a lot about the PA5 the last two weeks, did someone throw it at USDGC/TP or something? Just bought a couple used PA3's as I own like, 4-6 different putter molds and I'm still looking for that mold that just magically makes me a better putter... I find Fierce bit unreliable thrower, i have 2 Z plastic ones and i have tested those for couple rounds. But i quess it works for complete beginner who throws everything whit alot hyzer. Pa5 is bit weird feeling wide putter, it allmost feels like midrange in hand.

Pure for sure. Way more predictable than the Fierce. I have a TS plastic, and it is just as flippy. I do feel that Fierce has more glide. When Paige throws the Fierce, she throws hard pushing hyzer that slow turns as it slows down.

The Pure has been my putter for awhile, but I recently picked up some Pure White Warlocks and Electron Anodes to have a putt off. Mostly bc it's fun heh. I have an Opto Pure (Gold line was hard to find for awhile), as well as an X-out Diamond Warlock and a Neutron Anode. I figure I can try them all out for driving as well. I'm not surprised by teh result, and I agree the Pure is a fantastic disc for newer players. Sure you can give them an Aviar or P2 or Wizard or whatever, but the shallower disc works for more hands. I definitely have smaller hands for a guy and there's plenty of discs that just don't feel comfortable. Pure always does.

You must be real new to DG and DG thoughts, comments and play. I’m like you are but ‘everyone’ throws putters for drives and approaches all the time. So many people insist “beginners should only throw putters until they can throw them 250’-300’. “. Well, that’s crazy cus I’ve just gotten to 225 consistently after 3 years using fairway drivers. I’d never get there. The way he did /does this is common use and theory.

It's without any shadow of a doubt the Fierce. I have no doubt the Pure is nice even though I'd consider it filling a different slot in the bag since the Pure is more stable, the Fierce is probably one of the best discs ever made. If you watch Paige throw 325ft shots basing baskets, you'll get it...Watch this year's Preserve, I think it's hole 4? Makes everyone throwing mids and high speeds look stupid. It is a near ideal understable putt and approach...you will be hyzerflipping it, so don't expect throwing it flat and hard is going to get it go straight.
