The flaky texture of artichokes is perfect to make vegan "fish". "Fish" and chips are a delicious finger food perfect for a game day appetizer or tasty dinner. 🌿 FULL RECIPE🌿
Ingredients
For Fish
1 (14 oz) can marinated artichokes hearts
1 tablespoon crumbled roasted seaweed( or nori flakes)
Planko crumbs (for fish sticks)
For Beer Batter
3/4 cup flour (all-purpose gluten-free flour mix if desired)
2 tbsp cornstarch
½ tsp of baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
1/2 cup water (1/4 cup for gluten-free)
3/4 cup beer
FOR FRYING:
Rice Paper ( I used Three Ladies Spring Roll Rice Paper Wrappers)
about 2 cups cooking oil (optional if using an air fryer)
For Tartar Sauce
1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 heaping teaspoon sweet pickle relish
salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
For Flaky Fish
1.Combine the ingredients for the tartar sauce and refrigerate until ready to use.
2.Start by draining artichokes and mixing in nori flakes and set aside.
3.Dip the rice paper in warm water for about 3-4 seconds, until it becomes soft and pliable.
4.Carefully transfer to a work surface and place your artichokes inside. Fold rice paper over the top and then fold over the sides. Make sure these are rolled tightly so you don’t lose any of the contents in the frying process.
5.For the beer batter, combine flour, corn starch, spices,baking powder and water until thick.
6.Slowly add beer, about 1/4 cup at a time, while mixing. The batter should still be thick but thin enough to evenly coat. Coat each of the pieces in the batter and transfer for frying.
7.I am using an airfryer for this dish and setting the timer on 400° F for about 15 minutes.
8.If you don’t have an air fryer Heat oil in a small cast-iron skillet, filling enough so that it's about 1" deep.Once the oil is hot, gently place parcels in hot oil and deep fry for about 2 minutes, flipping halfway in between if necessary.
9.Remove from oil and place on paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
Serve this up with your chips and prepared tartar sauce and enjoy.
For Fish Sticks
1.In a food processor combine ingredients for artichokes, planko crumbs and nori flakes. Pulse a few times until ingredients are broken down and combined. There should still be large chunks.
2.Shape the mixture into 8-10 fish sticks and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
3.Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to bind.
4.I used an air fryer for this recipe and cooked at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. If using an oven heat to 375 degrees and cook for 30-40 minutes until crisp.
5.Serve this up with your chips and prepared tartar sauce and enjoy.

I haven't eaten anything with a face since 1977 since the age of 10 & a few weeks ago tried canned egan tuna & had to spit it out.lol It was an American brand ( I' m from the UK ) called something like Loma or Lomas.it had the smel! Of rancid socks and the consistency of cheap cat food..yeah he never again !..the first time over here I'd e between vegan tuna so it's sad it was so bad !
