I’ve been testing this lens for Sony this week to go along with their new releases. The Sigma 16 1.4 is sharp as a tack and absolutely rivals the best lenses in the world
Just bought this lens for the GH5. It is outstanding. I have used Conon Ef lens such as the sigma 17-50 2.8 ef lens with the Viltorx speedbooster and was using the 12-35 2.8 leica lens but both lens never felt right. Soon as I used the 16mm everything just felt right. 35mm is my fave FL so the 32mm FL is close to it . Using this lens on the GH5 makes the AF so good. Its fast and does it nice and clean. If your thinking of getting this lens stop thinking and simply get it. It will be the only lens you'll need.
Sigma makes great lenses. I have the MFT version of the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for my BMPCC4K. I just ordered the Sony a6500 along with the E-mount version of the Sigma 16mm f/1.4. So, yea, it's a fantastic lens.
Excellent video! Can you tell me how to switch from AF to MF on the GH5 camera like you mention at 8:06 ? I was so used to a zoom lens and having the AF/MF switch on the lens but with this Sigma lens there is no switch. I can tap the GH5 screen to get AF but don't know how to switch to MF from there. Also, the focus wheel seems to do nothing? Is there is a setting to enable that? Thank you!!
there a switch on the back for MF/AFC/AFS stands for Manual focus, Autofocus Continous and Autofocus Single. in MF the focus ring will cork. Choose AFC when you want autofocus. GH5 autofocus is not reliable in video though
Nice review my friend. I may well invest in this lens. I've been using my 12mm / 24mm equivalent F1.4 but it is a little wide so maybe this would be better fo my vlogs etc?
It’s my favourite lens for sure - I find 24 distorts the ends of the frame too much in my studio shots. 24 works for me if I’m holding the camera at arms length, but on a tripod, I like that 35mm equivalent (well 32…)
Sigma really is impressive. I have the Sigma 20mm and love it but it’s heavy. Yup tripod is really needed. Interesting GH6 info. Are you getting both the GH6 + ZV-E10?
speed boosters are for full frame glass adapted to smaller mounts. If you have a Panasonic camera, definitely get the Sigma lens with the micro 4/3 mount.
No - they are focus by wire and turn indefinitely - it’s hard to find lenses for mirrorless camera these days that don’t turn indefinitely. Some are linear (so you can repeat focus pulls) but almost none have a hard stop unless they are cinema lenses.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis That's unfortunate. Do you know a term to look up so that I can find lenses that don't turn indefinitely for a samsung NX1? I'm willing to purchase adapters as well.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you, one more thing. If I get this, do you think there wouldn't be a point of getting the sigma 18-35 anymore? Or is that a must have I just don't understand the zoom on it bc of the speedbooster
Hi Mark, I went to the Panasonic website and tried to update the latest firmware for the Sigma f/1.4 16mm lens. I was not successful. Did you install this firmware on the GH5?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Gotcha. Very good points. That Bokeh you had in the back yard was looking good man. Is the AF usable for that type of shot or do find yourself locking it in with manual and makeing sure not to get closer or further from the camera?
@@FulaanCreative Thanks!! The autofocus works fine in that situation - but I use manual on the GH5. At 2.8 equivalent - you have some room to move around a bit.
Greetings! I am an owner of the GH5 and i am really struggle to find a good lens (native) to produce good images. If you compare a full frame camera with any 35mm lens in 2.8f and the GH5 with the sigma in 1.4f then you will see that the DOF its not even close!!! The crop in the GH5 affects everything not just the DOF. I think you are losing your time searching for lenses with open aperture to succeed the shallowness of a full frame sensor. In my opinion the best lenses for the GH5 is the 25mm 1.7F sharp as a shark and the 12-35 2.8F good for all around shots! Peace and love!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Just gradually creeping through every video to justify my purchases. I had to throw out my 50mm f0.75 lens after you said it was no good, so thanks. It's in the bin now. Waste of 1k.
