In this video podcast, JT & Lady Cee talk with Craig & Misty about how the Watchtower, Bible & Tract Society divides families. They discuss the fall out on what happens when Misty chooses to join the group and the affect it has on her relationship with her husband. They also discuss how it affects the relationship with Misty and her dad when her husband finally puts his foot down and chooses to turn her in to the elders.
Once Craig turns Misty in, it does not take long for the elders to act and begin the process of expelling her from the religion. As a result, Misty undergoes a lot of undue stress. Her husband states that he had never seen his wife go through this type of suffering before and felt there had to be something wrong with the religion.
During the process of her disfellowshipping, Misty realizes that the Jehovah’s Witness religion is the source of her anguish and stress. She feels that living under their restrictions keeps her from being her true and authentic self. Therefore, when she chooses to sever ties with the group after being disfellowshipped, she is cut off from having any association with her dad and all friendships are null and void unless she rekindles her love for the Watchtower.
This, of course, puts a Misty was upset and undergoing immense stress because according to the teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses, if you do not act in accordance with their beliefs, you cannot have any contact with other Jehovah’s Witnesses abiding by their teachings.
This video is not about judging the individuals and the choices they make, but more about how the Jehovah's Witness religion puts a wedge between family members that choose a life course that does not align with their policies. In fact, policies that have nothing to do with the Bible. Policies that cut family ties where fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, etc. will never speak with one another again.

I was turned in for smoking by my husband. It was an escape from abuse I was enduring from him. I explained that and was reproved. The abuse continued. He fell away. Then left me and my kids. But had reported I smoked again to the brothers. They never reprimanded him for the abuse. My husband went so far to lock me out the house and refuse to allow my kids to let me in, right in the cold. My next door neighbor was a Jw and she called an elder. They did nothing. They were ready to discipline me again. I just stopped going. This was during the pandemic.

Lady Cee, I was an elder’s wife & I towed the line, doing what was expected of me. Even signing up to auxiliary pioneer, ( after 12 years straight of regular pioneering), during those “special” months, while husband kept working, so he would look good!! I always felt so guilty when I just wanted to stay home from a meeting, I went anyway 🥴. I admire your fortitude, standing your ground, being your own authentic self!!! I’m no longer married, left org. 3 years ago, having watched you ever since. I’m slowly learning to stand on my own 2 feet, & to date I’m proud at how far I’ve come…thanks for the inspiration! ♥️😌. @@mistyburns2512 Awww, that is so sweet! I’ve often wondered if I could get a picture of my brother and his wife drinking and send it to the elders would it get them out of this terrible religion. They are super heavy drinkers which seems so weird to me given the strictness of the JW’s. Thoughts?
@mistyburns2512
@mistyburns2512 2 года назад
@Andrea Somera that's a tough one. I've known some heavy drinkers myself in the "truth". But still they tried very hard to be good witnesses. They still believed in it very much. Almost couldn't see that they had a problem that went against jw standards. But as for telling on our loved ones, that's rough. It feels like such a betrayal for the one being told on. There's not many people a jw can be their genuine selves with. Like J.T. said, most jw's live a double life. So it really could backfire on you if it ever became known who told. For a full year I was angry with Craig. I couldn't believe what he had done. It hurt a lot. I still tried being a good jw. I still believed in it. I was so worried about what I would lose, thanks to Craig (not thanks to myself for what I was doing). And for some, staying in is worth it just to keep the relationships they have with others in it. And it really is a 50/50 chance and depends on where their minds are at regarding the "truth". Had Craig not told, I'd still be in it. I'd still be beating myself up for what a crappy jw I am. So on the one hand getting snitched on sucks, but on the other, in the long run, for our circumstance it was for the better. I could have easily went running back and tried to get reinstated and still be hiding my problem. They could do the same and all you did was further destroy your relationship with them and make them even more private and guarded.

Yep. When 🤔 i finally woke up that was the BIGGEST thing that I had to get over. I was so devastated 😭 that I couldn't wrap my head around that one reality, because I truly believed that I would NEVER DIE. As I was deprogramming I couldn't look at older people for awhile without literally having a full blown panic attack. As a JW the leaders engraved in your head, that you will die. And that was something that no other religious organization ever really preached. Only JWS. I still remember the talk : Millions Today Will NEVER Die....it was truly heartbreaking to know that 💔 😢 that was a lie. I am so glad that so many are leaving and waking up. Here's what's really ironic: The organization will actually punish you for being obedient to God. 1 John 4:1 says not to believe everything you hear even if someone says it comes from God, but to check it first to see if it really is - 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says to test everything that is said to be sure its true, and if it is, THEN accept it. So even from God's standpoint, He puts the ownership on YOU to check things first and not to accept the things that aren't true. But for a JW, listening to what God HIMSELF ADVISES, will have you removed and labeled......quickly

Interesting I ran across this video I actually served as an elder in the congregation Misty was in in California and I performed the marriage talk for Misty's father and new wife but just a short time after I had done research trying to make some changes as an elder through research in the society's publications in the way things were done that ended up making me and my family to leave. I feel sad that I had to enforce men's rules in the congregation while I internally knew and tried to make changes only to cause frustration and anxiety. Sorry if I ever made you feel bad about yourself I know it was never my intention but I know pushing the society's policies I know people had to feel that way.

I was disfellowshipped between 1999 - 2002. Two out of the three elders in my judicial committee are dead. I would say that it's sad that they died after having wasted their lives in a cult, but the fact remains that they were not good people. The rest of that generation, which made me believe that 1914 would mark the beginning of the end, is very advanced in age. Judges whose power is given by the same people with lives ruined in cruel judicial committees designed to keep the indoctrinated in line.

I can relate. Years ago, my younger brother and I left the town we'd been in for a bigger city. Word got back to the "elders" at the old hall we'd been we'd been seen smoking weed lol (long story). One of them went full bore to make sure we got df'd. That younger brother never went back. I did, like a fool. Nonetheless, I had four brothers and we all turned out decent. That elder died a couple of years ago. He and his wife had ONE kid. That ONE kid turned out to be a total physco living on the street eventually. But one point he tried to kill his mom with an axe. I been disfellowship for 17 years and I tried to go back in 2007 and the brother told me you are not ready. So I stopped going and 2018 I went to the memorial and that was the time I went. Her story reminds me of my mother I turned her in for smoking and the brothers told my mom if she didn’t don’t stop smoking she would get disfellowship and she stopped cold turkey and continue in the religion until she passed away in 2004. I have had recently a witness pass me at the store tell me what’s wrong with you what are you doing and I told her I know I need to come back. And a sister loan me money since I was disfellowship told me recently I don’t have to pay it back but please come back holding that over my head. Th part about th parents needing us later in life. I'm in my 50's(born in it)and my mom is now in her 70's. She now has dementia. Guess who her elder husband reached out to, lolol!! Yes, he's catching it now. I'm th df'd(at age 19) one. My sis never got baptzd. Took me some time and I had a very honest talk with her husband as to why he would get little from me initially, but I've managed to put her mistreatment of me behind me, and now help out. Th best part now is she actually says I love you, loves to see me now, and does not talk about the religion at all, whew! It took dementia for her to act human.

Nice to hear Craig and Misty’s story, I can relate to there not being any help or support groups for those struggling with addictions but in a way thats good as it forced me to seek help outside from other religious groups who had excellent support apps and groups and this started to wake me up early on as you see people outside do have genuine faith and high moral standards this really does undermine the exclusive enlightened witnesses against the spiritually dead world outside that the organisation tries to paint especially to those of us who are born in. It was nice to see Craigs critical thinking immediately kicking in and seeing the warning signs his advice was right on! My experiences with other religious people has definitely helped me find peace and rest in Christ Jesus my saviour and escape the cult spiritually stronger than I’ve ever been, hopefully this will start to wake up my family and friends, especially after such extreme talks at the convention this year, I believe our Love will conquer their lies.

Myself and my fiancé have been together eleven years now and both were born in third been for myself and I believe the same for my fiancé but his family goes way way back to the beginning of the organization pretty much because his parents were late in life kids for their parents who were also late late in life surprises for their parents and his grandfather was born at the end of the the 1800’s (not great grandfather). I left the religion a couple years prior to my fiancé and though I kinda grew up in the same town he was born and raised in I moved a lot but we came back to this town several times during my childhood. I actually was friends with him later on in life and we never had feelings like that for each other until after my dad died, needing platelets but being told obviously that he could not accept platelets but he was also told bone marrow could be accepted if it didn’t bother his conscience which after that I left. Then I enrolled in college I had been married a few years at this point as well and had two children ages one and three and my obviously now ex was extremely abusive and is still an alcoholic as far as I am aware. He became even more so after my dads death. It got so bad I began planning my escape and thought joining the military, which I had secretly wanted to do my entire life as my grandpa (dads dad) had served in the army he never became a JW even though my Grammy had and brought my dad and his siblings up in “the truth” , so I joined the Navy and we moved closer to my ex husband’s mom, nana and sister so that I could be sure there were people around that could keep track of and take care of the kids while I was in boot camp and A school and planned to leave my ex soon as I could get that done and live far away with my kids. Plans went as about far south as they could as I got a phone call and a few letters that while not stating outright that bad things were happening I knew full well he had became abusive towards the kids at this point apparently due to myself not being there but he’d never been that way to them prior to that so I never thought he would. I had reached out to the elders as well about a year before I left the religion and was told I “Just needed to be a better Christian wife and he would not have a reason to be abusive” yea about that. Anyways, so I managed to thankfully be released from the navy on an honorable medical discharge was how they worked it out so that I could go home and make sure my kids were safe and get things handled and was given an RE code which would have allowed me to return though I never did end up going back sadly. I got home and we tried the one more chance (even though it was a billion chances at that point) because I am one that once I decide something that’s it and I never ever was willing to put my children or myself through the back and forth with an abusive mate. I gave it abt a month or two I believe it was before I finally had enough and he crossed the line so far I knew it was either get the hell out or one of us was going to end up dead. I called the man who is now my fiancé because he had been disfellowshipped abt two years prior to that moment and he was the only person I knew in this town and trusted, my family members were over five hundred miles away plus they were all JW and I was not going back, so I called him up and said can the kids and I stay with you for a bit until I get on my feet and he said yes and was at our place in no time and in less than an hour we were packed and out of there. I spent about six months with him at his house then the girls and I lived into an apartment not far from his home and it was not long before he comes over one day and he says “why don’t you and the girls just come home”. By then the divorce had been finalized and I was tired of my ex coming to the apartments drunk off his ass and causing a racket and being horrible and I had developed feelings for my now fiancé through all of this. So he moved us back to his home and the kids were four and six at that point a year later I was awarded full custody and restraining orders for myself and the children against my ex and we’ve been a happy family since. We have gone through things don’t get me wrong but we are a real team and the kids absolutely adore my fiancé and as far as they are concerned he’s the only father/dad they have. The kids are now fifteen and seventeen and have both expressed gratefulness that we did not return to the organization and raise them the way we were raised and my two have had some exposure to it being that until they were a year and three years respectively I took them religiously to the meetings ect I was fully in until my dad died though I had many questions that only irritated elders and anyone else I asked since I was a teenager which always bothered me and I made a pretty big mistake at the age of barely 18 and went and told on myself even though had I not nobody would have ever known what I did but I got dfd then reinstated a year later at 19 two weeks after getting married (the elders told me I had to get married to the guy I had been dating while out to be reinstated so I did) I was always so afraid of being without my family. It was all I had ever known and my entire life was wrapped up in the organization. I was even baptized at a very early age, just ten years old, and after having my own children I cannot imagine letting my ten year old make such a life altering decision. My mom is still in but both my brothers have left as well and my younger bro was going to send in his letter but my mom legit asked him to “just do what your sister did and walk away so that I can still talk to you” how fd up is that?!?!! I mean seriously!! My youngest bro just never got baptized and my mom gave up on pushing him towards that as she was fully into grieving my dad when he was just thirteen years old so for awhile my mom was just trying to survive after losing my dad then my grandpa passed eight months later. It makes me crazy that even the most intelligent ppl in my family can to this day hang onto the belief that the organization is “the one true religion” I just look at what it has become and it is just about everything they used to get on that stage and tell us was a sign of a false religion. I mean the jw broadcasting is basically televangelism isn’t it!? Does nobody in the organization see that?! I get told to “come back” but in my mind I think, come back to what exactly? It isn’t even the same religion I was taught at this point. It is almost unrecognizable aside from the the same worn out rhetoric in talks given over and over and over again with cherry picked, out of context scriptures and some of the same old don’t do this rules but there are so many things that have changed like the whole YOU MUST ATTEND ALL THREE MEETINGS BECAUSE IF YOU MISS THAT EXTRA SPIRITUAL FOOD THEN basically you will become a sinful person because you’re opening yourself up to satan the devil by skipping that meeting and now they shortened things and completely got rid of an entire meeting like wtf?!

The problem is that the WT has turned Christianity into a "religion" of their own. The Bible is complete and it is the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God! And what does the word of God say? "Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood." But the rules of WT is troubling to Christians! Judging and giving a "Second death" sentence to those who do not follow the commandments of the Governing Body is not obeying Jesus the Christ, and is not acting in love. I met an Amish man about a year ago, and he was very friendly and reasonable , and I felt he was a good hearted and righteous man. And he smoked this little pipe. It did not offend me whatsoever. Why could I not consider him a brother? What if I told him that if he did not stop smoking that pipe, I would no longer talk to him or be a friend to him, and if he did not agree with ME, God was going to destroy him for all eternity? This is the presumptuousness that the Governing Body has taken upon themselves. Why would they care? What about mercy? Jesus said that with the judgement you judge others, you will be judged. Do they have no fear of God at all? "There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you." James 2:13 New Living Translation It is so simple. Why do they refuse to listen? Now Jesus said.. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. But the WT says apostacy (publicly disagreeing with WT) is the very worst sin, and can hardly ever be be forgiven. Not only do they disobey scripture, but they are wicked judges, that cannot behold the rafter in their own eyes. I recently tried to speak to different jw's, and they refused to even address my legitimate concerns. And cut off all communication with me. To me they are worshipping corrupt men, worship that belongs to God alone. And this is what the worship of the Beast is all about. 666, the number of man!! They themselves may not be THE Beast, but cannot it be said they are in the very image of the beast?

I’m not aJ, but I was interested in what they believe. I was never aware that there was shunning in this group. As a Christian, I usually tell people and it is reinforced by my pastor that you have to be so familiar with the truth that you will be able to spot error miles away. Religion that is based on good works will be very burdensome, which is what you all found out. Hope that you can freedom in giving your life to Jesus and live for him. John 8:36
