Two-Time Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Doug Schakel, skill development coach for the 2015 NJCAA Div. II National Champions, uses player demonstrations to show how to successfully attack 1-2-2 and 3-2 zone defenses.
+Larry Wright Larry- I don't think there is a "best offensive set for M2M offense." I think the set that a coach would choose would reflect what the makeup of his team is. If you are guard-oriented, you would pick a set that will take advantage of those guards. On the other hand, if you have one or two good post players, you would select a set that would emphasize the abilities of your post player(s). And, if you are blessed with talent inside and out, that too would be taken into consideration when choosing an offensive set/system I really love the offense featured in our two You Tube videos, "Triangle Zone Offense" and "Triangle Zone Offense vs. Man to Man Defense." I have been able to accommodate both good guard play and good post play with this offense. Take a look and let me know what you think. In addition, if you e-mail me (dougschakel@aol.com) I will send you a free 14-page handout on the offense and send you some game videos of some 8th grade boys using the offense (that offer goes for anyone reading this post).. My best to you- Coach Schakel
I'm new to coaching and I'm currently trying to learn and teach this offense. I'm just curious on why the post player are not rotating from the top and diving down low like they were in your other two triangle zone offense videos? Does using the triangle against a zone really change the offense that much?
Coach Straub- This really is a totally different offense used specifically against the 1-2-2 zone. Our regular Triangle Offense (with posts diving) works just fine vs. the 1-2-2. I have offered this as a change of pace vs. the 1-2-2. Because it is so incredibly simple and easy to teach, some coaches like to have a simple auxilliary attack in their "bag of tricks" for certain opponents. Your opponent is expecting the Triangle Offense and you open for a few possessions with something else. You can see the look on the opposing team's players that says, "This isn't what we prepared for."
Doug Schakel oh okay my bad. so I've been running the triangle in practice and have our first this Tuesday. We play in a legue with a lot of zones defense and want make sure it works against a zone. everything I've learned about the offense is mostly off your videos
