I have to say that initial quality of BFT556 was very good and I did not observe any problems with the rivets or fitment of parts….but we did run into the problem fairly quickly once shooting started...
Robski, the deformation ('folding') is concerning. How much more folding can be expected? I assume eventually the folding will reach its maximum and not progress any further. The question then becomes Will that occur before stress results in breakage? Of course, the desire is to eliminate the folding. How would that be achieved other than filing?
The small area of folding will be one work hardened and separate from the receiver or the bolt carrier. That probability is concerning especially as the folding is at two important parts.
Maybe an un-related question. What is the difference between an inside ejector and an outside ejector? all my AKs have outside ejectors (one romanian, two VEPRs), but in all the videos I have seen from your channel and others, all I see is internal ejectors (inside the bolt).
Strictly your opinion Robski. If you had to choose life or death. Which round would you pick for the AK? Pretend all 3 rounds are abundant and available. 7.62, 5.45 or 5.56? Always wanted to know your thoughts on that? I like the ruggedness of this rifle. But being in 5.56 they need to make this more user friendly to put optics on this. Crazy how they have those cutouts in the piston like that.
I enjoy the new audio. Recording audio in studio makes it so much more clear. Quality improved. Thank you for still making videos after all these years.
@@AkOperatorsUnionI for one prefer the old format with close-up still pictures, raw dogging it, and no classical music, but this is still the best AK content so thank you for doing this king.
I have a WASR 10 63 GP and i really belive it is a very underrated rifle... all matching SNs, hammer forged chrome lined barrel,, no feeding issues or failures too eject,,, never Ever jamms,,,, hitting 14 inch gong consistently at 200 yards with factory iron sights.... super accurate and more reliable than upper end rifles that cost more than twice the money!
Rob: I love your summation of this particular BFT unit as being pretty much what it is, (a KISS / beater rifle). Doesn’t need to get any better than that, sound suppressor & scope, good to GO!👍🏻 Best, Rola (Oregon)
I missed you ski.. I love the way you did this review. Near perfect. I too am struggling with finding a replacement beater for my now all but extinct Arsenal 107FR…. Maybe I can find good ak for “good price” today but to afford to shoot it is another matter entirely.
I remember when you couldn't give away a Century AK. When the WASR was basically disposable, now a WASR is a grand and hard to find. The world has turned on its head. Thank you as always Rob for an awesome video. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series. Let us know how you like the can, and any backpressure/overgas issues! Thank you again!!
@@camp168 well if you are a casual shooter I agree. But if you're a heavy volume shooter PSA doesn't dimple the receiver for the rivet's that is a needed part of the assembly process for a heavy use AK.
So is this rifle an American made century or is it imported and 922r'd? If it's manufactured completely by century in the US I would never even consider owning this rifle
@@donwyoming1936 I haven't experienced those issues. Have a M70 OPAP, M92 SBR, and M90NP 556 ... have run them for years in training courses, and none show excessive wear. Absolutely zero issues with the bolt carriers. Truthfully, the only issues I've heard on any scale with Zastava rifles was the heat treating of the receiving was dodgy on the very first run that was imported. The second and subsequent runs "to this day" don't have any significant or widespread issues. Regarding some broken bolt carriers, if you look at the bolt carriers that have been breaking, they are also nearly all also using an ALG trigger group. So the issue could be there (i.e. the geometry of that trigger group is putting excessive pressure on the bolt carrier), as this seems to be where they are breaking. Every combination of every available part can't be expected to be compatible, or not cause issues. I run RAK-1s in all of mine.
@@mhicaoidh1yes to all you said and I’ll add to it: Zastava doesn’t have across the board the issues that the commenter wrote. But some QC in the metallurgy exist for sure. It’s definitely rare. And yes on the Rak vs Zastava guts.
Hello Rob and greetings from your Ozark neighbor in Fair Grove... Would love the opportunity to meet you someday... Always enjoy your videos and while I do not have one of these from Century I do have a Zastava M90np which is very close to the same rifle.. I like the M90 because it uses AR mags, has a 3 position adjustable gas block and a 18" barrel along with the heavy 1.5mm bulged trunnion receiver... I have had this rifle over 10 years now and it has been awesome.
Hey hey hey!!!! Dont compare the zastava to century arms, brother... Bite your tongue and shame on you... Your zastava is a switch watch compared to this one. I have one myself. Never ever get rid of it. It will outlive and outperform others.
Thanks again Ski for another very informative vid. What you call wear I call witness marking. I'll put something like Slip 2000 EWL grease on those areas.
It’s a great trick that was thought to me by a kid from Russia that ran AK’s in the local three gun matches. We got along very well because at the time we were the only two doing so.
It looks like Century is trying to re-enter the AK game with a totally re-designed weapon. Will it succeed? Only time will tell. Thank you for the review, Sir, no bullshit talk as usual. :)
Thank you Jonathan, I will watch that more carefully when editing in the future videos for sure. Also, it sounded totally fine when I was editing with the headphones on my desktop, but when I actually watched the video on the RU-vid on TV, it is little too loud. I think RU-vid is compressing sound maybe...I will investigate more!
556 AK’s are a great alternative and ammo is plentiful, at least for now. I really like my 5.56 ak because I can less stuff to the range with me to shoot.
I went with a 5.56 for my first AK almost 20 years ago. Back then my brother went with an AR, so I got the AK in the same caliber for ammo compatibility. Who would have guessed that all the dirty looks I got back then would be worth it now with the ammo situation. Still have that rifle and still love it! 😅
I have a rifle and pistol in 7.62x39 bought from Century. Built in Serbia, imported by Century. Both function perfectly. Ive considered 1 in this caliber, but built an AR pistol in 7.62x39 instead.
Yea, i dont blame you. This AK is too long to be a vehicle gun. It would be fun, though. Since most expect .30 cal to be comming their way if u had to use it. But yea, short is the name of the game for mobile purposes.
Hi Rob! Nicely worked video! If i were to offer some constructive criticism, it would be to work on your delivery. It was a touch flat, but overall very good. As always, thank you for taking the time to keep us informed about AK!
I own a Krebs Customs Vepr KTR-03 in 5.56 it's a great AK I had one failure to eject when using lacquered steel case ammo I was shooting in the desert of Arizona so the heat in my opinion was part of the issue
I just wanted to tell you that i love your videos.very informative and thorough. Ive learned alot from your channel, thank you very much!!!! Also wanted to ask if youve ever done or thinking of doing a video on camping and hiking with an ak,and what, and how you pack your bags,if or when you do? Thank you sir! And thank you for your service!!
Rob, is your PSA 102 still putting in work. I have the 101 and a GF3. There are a lot of PSA haters, but mine have been good so far. Thanks for all you do for the platform. Keep it up.
I know that what I'm about to drop is dated. The Valmet model 71/76 in .233/ 5.56 is/ was the bomb!! The 1/12 twist is old,but got the job done! Thanks for sharing this with us! No bullshit, just straight up truth, and talk!!! 👍🤝👌✌️🫡🇺🇸🎯💯
I had to put dry lube in my new Beryl mags when running steel case ammo until they “broke in.” Due to the increased friction of the steel case in the mags. Brass case in them were fine. I don’t believe the Polish Military ever used steel case 556.
About 15 years ago I bought a Century Arms Golani Sporter. In .556 of course. Totally garbage. It stovepiped a LOT with any ammo. Local gunsmiths said they can’t fix it. Century Arms referred me to a shop in Vermont, and I’d have to ship it… What a waste. I’m ever buying from Century Arms again.
I bought a Century Arms imported Zastava NPAP M70 underfolder back in 2018. All matching numbers, the front sight believe it or not was NOT canted or crooked and is correctly heavy, good wood and accurate. I paid $600 and have ran a few thousand rounds thru it with zero problems. I’ve had some Interesting offers for it but given everything that’s been going on she’s not going anywhere and Zastava wants $1200 for basically the identical weapon.
The only thing in general that's really keeping me from doing a 5.56 AK is the magazine compatibility issue amongst 5.56 AK variants; some may work well with others while some may not work very well (or maybe not even at all), unless you do some sort of modification to the magazine(s) to make it/them work. If I had to do a 5.56 AK, I would really like to try and get a Beryl; I think that one is the nicest one.
Just curious if the furniture is really that bright or if maybe the camera is a little off? I've seen hotrod's that weren't as bright at that ak furniture, lol. Thanks for the informative video!!
Nice review! I'm curious if Century welded the gas piston into the bolt carrier like they did with some of their imports (my SAR-1 for example), or if they drilled and pinned as Mikhail intended.
Century seems to be content with the “affordable” marketplace. Personally, I am hooked on Zastava. That said, I’m just not a fan of the 5.56 or 5.45 cartridges. The next place I will be using my rifle favors the 7.62x39. Unfortunately, I will have to buy a 9mm pistol because these countries don’t supply 10mm ammo….but that’s a different story to tell. 😬😉
I’ve loved AKS When I was not supposed 2 Vet uncle served nam etc Fudd etc Every man in my family has served in the us military since the civil war And before for another military that we all know of Hint hint C.S. I’m a married vet. When rob post I watch no mission To difficult No sacrifice to great Duty first U that know U Know where the who the how God bless rob I love your love for the kalash Brings me such joy US. Army sniper love for the AK Is so awesome u post from a shooter rob u know it’s performance and limitations but it’s out fxxking standing for its role to drop a. Mofo. If you have lived in the south and hunted deer with a 3030. Well boys. That sks. That your grandpa bought out of a crate for $75 bucks in 93. Was worth it. Gold. God bless from east tx. All love for the Ak and brother platforms y’all be safe
Man I’ve been waiting since last year for them to get these out and available. Had my fingers crossed they would be solid like my Wasr-10. Guess I just gotta save up and get the Zastava m90
Good video. Personally, I wouldn’t buy anything produced by century (their imports are fine), but I’m glad there are more domestic producers of AKs. We won’t have imports forever so we need home-grown products.
The sling loop on their other guns was molded into the chunky ass gas block they use. It is odd they don't use a retainer with the loop in it since they put a 74 style 90 degree block on this one.
I enjoy my 556 AK that takes AR mags. M85NP. I know, I know. I don’t care. No hiccups what so ever in roughly a case and a half EXCEPT it ripper one spent case in half, loaded the next case, still fired it and it felt weird. Half a brass case wrapped around another full brass case. It just runs… off AR mags. I keep getting offers for it because I added quad rails, bomb proof steel side folder, buffer and SBA5. Been offered a lot because I bought it cheap. Not happening. It’s mine. I buy things to keep them.
Probably the result of a correct SAAMI spec chamber vs. a looser com-bloc one. I have a SLR-106FR and it always extracts Wolf and Tula steel case .233 ammo. Run brass case ammo and you should be good to go.
Good video , but with so many other good 556 AK guns out there that don't have as many issues with aftermarket parts I don't see the advantage to this one. The wood would have to go that is the ugliest wood I have seen
