In this video I do some work to a pulling cylinder head for a Big Block Deere. These pose a bit of a challenge to modify cheaply because they use 7/16" valve stems so without doing guides it is pretty well stuck to stock valves. So I change the angles do some porting and make the best I can out of the stock parts with some better valve springs it should live happy life of 3000rpm pulling.

Brian, I have been enjoying your videos since you used a sledge hammer to break up the old concrete in your old and very ventilated shop. I remember the heart break when your crane dropped your new machine and broke your floor and your radial arm drill. I recognize that your videos aren't polished and you don't talk like a youtuber, but I think you deserve a much bigger audience. You know so many things and there are many people missing out on your knowledge. I hope you stick around for a while so we can continue to enjoy your work.

You were drowning that poor tractor's head. Every time it came up for air you pushed it back down. Had not seen one of those old parts washers in years. The new high-pressure jets, hot water, and detergent, washer cabinets being used today sure beat the old Hot Tank Caustic chemical cleaner tank of old. A grocery store owner brought in several of his baking sheets and wanted them cleaned. The rebuild shop guy said the caustic was rough on aluminum but the grocer said "let's try it anyway" and when the pans came out a few hours later, the only thing left were the steel rods that were rolled into the lip of the pans.

Yep they make cleaners for aluminum but the ones not compatible are sure not good for it! lol The spray type ones do a good job cleaning the outside but don't work very good on the inside.

Great Video Brian, what brand of oil do you run in your Dodge Crewcab.
@TheJohndeere466
@TheJohndeere466 Месяц назад
You need to put some lye in the parts washer and heat it. The lye will eat the grease and the paint off. Just dont put any aluminum or brass in it. It will eat that too.
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 Месяц назад
A lot of the valve covers timing covers and oil pans are aluminum so maybe I am. Best off staying with the weak stuff.

Never straight. First two holes are ALWAYS going to do their own thing. That temperature delta from the radiator makes more of a difference than people think.

Do you have sort of a rule of thumb for the radius you set the fly cutter to? Like 1.5X head width?
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 3 месяца назад
Not really, I just try to set it so it is mostly cuts across the head with the cutting forces. I don't want the cutter trying to bang the head forwards and backwards on my table as that gives poor finish.

@@bcbloc02 I am very sorry Brian. I guess I missed it. I don't always get your videos anymore. I lost both of my little dogs within the last 3 years, and I was heartbroken. About this time last year my best friend and neighbor was just a couple of weeks away from passing from cancer. He knew how much I missed my little dogs, so he got me a little female Something. I know her daddy is a white male Chihuahua, and her mother was some tiny little black dog. When he gave her to me, he left an eternal smile inside me. She is the top of the world to me. I named her "Snuggles "I am sure Bailey is missed and was loved by many. Thanks for the response.

When you were cutting the head, it looked like the cutter had two different cutting depths! Looked like as the cutter went through first cut was light and then as head progressed the second one was deeper! Does you cutter have this feature and does it have advantages?

@@bcbloc02 In the video on your second pass, it just looked like there was a very fine cut being made before the final cut! Could have been my prescription though!
@Hoaxer51
@Hoaxer51 3 месяца назад
I thought the same thing on the second pass on that head but I realized it was the lighting that looked like it was making that pass and when the cutter head blocked the background lighting you could see it was only making the one cut. Kind of an optical illusion from the lights for filming. Edit: it’s more of a shadow, you can see the background lights, then the shadow, then the actual cutting taking place. Sure came out nice!
@bcbloc02

@@frednewman2162 Yeah what you are seeing is the shadow from the head facing head as I have a light behind the camera.
