For some weird reason it seems every employee and customer has major issues with Guitar Center. Why something as cool and fun as playing guitars causes so much angst is beyond me.
I never understood hipsters. People with a gimmick that mocks the past. Vintage glasses, clothes and technology. All we would need to stop them is smallpox.
I went to a hipster barbershop on Sunset, and it's probably for the best that it was impossible to get a haircut, Bill. It cost me $40 to get my hair trimmed, and they asked me a million annoying questions with haircut jargon that I didn't understand the whole time.

My old barber - who worked there for 30+ years sold up to some metrosexual with his fake snakeskin pointy shoes and incense (hipsters seem to be an evolution of metrosexuals). Anyway, one day he closed half an hour early and I couldn't get in for my buzzcut - I was working 2 jobs and had limited opportunity, so I was pissed off and went and bought Wahl clippers 7 years ago and haven't been to a barber since. The clippers have paid for themselves several times over. I suppose since Bill has to go on stage, it might pay for him to get it done properly. The hairline at the back is a little tricky when you do it yourself. Most normal men don't want some fancy hair salon which is reflected in the price, they want an honest, straight forward barber shop. They want to go in, get a haircut, pay a fair price and get the fuck out.
pauljh74 my mom cut my hair when i was a kid, i went to a barbershop once when i was a teenager and got a "fade" (at the advice of my friends, hahah) and then switched to clippers from there on out. never looked back. :) just cut my hair again recently and had my colleague fix the back when i got to work the next day :D
pauljh74 I've been cutting my hair for years. I just want it low and tight so it only takes 20 minutes. If I need to get lined up I have a friend do it. I'm not going to make a damn appointment for a buzz.
I have wahl clippers that I've been using for over 6 years. I just buzz my hair since I wear a hat most of the time. When my barber went to $20 for a haircut I said fuck this...
My experience has always been like this: “hello do you have an appointment ?” “No I don’t” “Okay no problem it’s like a 10 minute wait” ***less than 5 minutes later*** “Okay we’re ready for you” Another 10 minutes later I walk out, pay 20 bucks including the tip. That’s it lol
This is scary weird. Just got my haircut 2 days ago, i had an appointment. As i was waiting for my cut people were walking in and they were sending them out saying that they were booked for today and to go book an appointment. It was a hipster style of barbershop where all the cutters were in there 20s and early 30s. At one point "A Change is gonna come" was playing.
Moved to Denver from Chicago. Every. Single. Place. is like that. I walked into a place to do the same thing, just wanted my head shaved. They asked if i had an appointment and i said no and was told i need one. I looked around at an empty barber shop and asked the guy if he wanted my money or not. He was firm about the appointment. Fine, i left. Called another place down the road asked if they do walk ins. Yes if you come right now. Okay. Get there, yeah i want a straight razor shave (shave my head bald) ok we have someone. Chick comes out to cut it. What you want? A straight razor shave. Ok, how high of a fade? None i want the whole head. Uhh we dont do that. Uhh i thought this was a barber shop? So i left that one. Went to ANOTHER EMPTY “barber” shop and guess what - yeah, im only taking appointments today? The fucking fuck. I finally found an old school barber out in Lakewood. Sports on the tv, newspaper on the coffee table, they give you a beer if you want one while you get cut. It was perfect. Id make the 20/30 min drive everytime. 17th and Wadsworth if anyones from there
Aww man, this is it. Worst thing is when you look for barbershops in your area, go to one, and it's all women cutting the hair with one male 40 year old manager who walks around looking busy.
Same shit happened to me a few years ago but there were TWO barbers and NO ONE else was in there. I just said I would find a place that [looked at all the empty chairs] wasn't so busy.
The problem with hipsters is they dress, listen to, and idolize men from the 40's and 50's, but mentally they're NOTHING LIKE THEM. They don't have the intelligence, ingenuity, originality, traditionalism, or emotional stability of any famous badass from the olden days, they only have the clothes and the music. Hipsters are the death of everything.
Every man should own a pair of clippers and just shave his head. There's plenty of choice in that: You can choose the number 1 attachment, number 2, number 3, number 4... or no attachment, for a very close shave. Nothing feels freer than having a shaved head.

"Vote with your wallet". Your choice of whether to accept a service or not is your primary tool to affect the situation on the market. Never be ashamed of using it to your advantage.
Man Bill I think exactly like you lol. I live near Nelson BC and it used to have 4 barbershop and now it's down to one and he's old school so I pay him more just to make sure he stays there. I've been through that hipster barbershop appointment situation boy was I pissed off lol.
Shit like this is why I cut my own hair. I don't have a short cut but it's still free and takes less than 15 minutes. People keep asking where I get my haircut and I say my bathroom.
+Harmony Jones nah I have once or twice. The first time I had winter dandruff that was pissing me off so I shaved it to the skin. Then I used lotion every day for a month and that fixed it.

That's this younger generation... They don't want to earn extra money but only earn enough to get by. I'm 31 and had guys my age working for me that are the same way find every excuse after a paycheck to not go back to work.
Who goes to the barber for a buzz cut? I've always done it myself. Doesn't everybody? You take the clippers, you put it to zero and then you have at it. When that eventually gets boring you grab a razor and cross your fingers.

Haha there is a nice barbershop around the corner from my house that does most of those things except they're not hipsters. They're just rock a billy, it's actually real nice. Of course I don't let them wash my hair but I might let them shave my beard one of these days. They have all the old school amenities like actual foldable razors with leather straps and actual warm shaving cream. It's only $20 dollars, I think it's a deal for all that they do.
Find a shop with a big red numbers on the window that says "$10.00" those barbers want to do 10 min haircuts and do walk-ins only and the customers are willing to wait 3 hours for a cut. If they charge $25 or more they most likely work on appointment, their customers pay more to not wait.

I just got back from industrial China. It's not as bad you think it is. I worked with dudes who make $1.25/hr. Seemed as happy as any American worker. But they probably bitch less about work.
