I don't it was so much their style (clothing, makeup etc), I think they just had "game". They were super famous, immensily popular and probably had the self-confidence to fill ten blue whales. Not to mention good looks and clean lean body builds. So it's not a surprise that many women would find them attractive.

They used to; they'd have a blackboard backstage at some gigs and cross off the material as they came back off, so the next comedian would know that someone had already done the 'mother-in-law' jokes or whatever. It's a complete No-No now, tho. Too easy to find jokes online, claim them as your own, but a) ppl would most likely have already heard them and b) some ppl will recognise them and call you out. This is what happened to that guy on Australia's Got Talent. I've done three stand-up courses and written around 2000 of my own. A few I've written have already been performed (in front of me at a gig) before I'd had a chance to perform them myself. I've done a few gigs and gone down ok, but writing jokes from scratch is hard. Try staring at a piece of blank paper and coming up with something original. There are techniques you can employ, but it's still a tough skill you have to work at. So yeah, joke-writing is hard and so whenever ppl say you can't own jokes or 'it's all in the delivery', I want to punch them in the face. Most ppl, as Bill says, just resort to writing about what they know about - their lives and ppl often find it funny because we often have similar experiences and so can relate.

Bill Burr doesn't knowingly take jokes, but like pretty much every comedian he's going to do it inadvertently at some point. The joke about the racist at the bar is one like that. He didn't take it, it just surfaced at some point in his head. Same way Rod Stewart got the tune for Do Ya Think I'm Sexy.
