Zelda: Breath of the Wild may very well be the first open-world RPG developed for the Switch, released in 2017, not including DLC, to so prominently feature cooking in its story and strategy. At least it will be in my mind until someone angrily corrects me in the comments. Seldom have fruits and vegetables dancing in a wok over an open fire yielded so many hearty stews, stamina potions, and pixelated monstrosities.

@@slightlyuncomfortable they don't have to use it. But if there are 4 or less required ingredients I always throw rock salt in anyway. I suppose I could get more hearts if I used the 5th slot to add more of the main ingredient, but it doesn't sit with me well making a lot of those things without salt. I suppose you could. I once knew a man who's favorite meal was boiled chicken no salt. So....

Interesting fact: There are actually many different kinds of durian. Its impossible to tell initiallly but there are a few that make your mouth and nose numb and some that taste like alcohol.

I tried some durian for the first time, but I couldn't smell anything bad, because it was frozen. When I tasted it, it's still cold, and it almost tasted almost like pineapple. I think it wasn't bad.

My grandparents farm has some durian (or as we call them “jack fruit”) trees. I remember the first time trying it I couldn’t eat more than one bite the smell was just so off putting. I think I’ll try freezing it though. That sounds good

My dad has a durian orchard here in Malaysia and it's his pride and joy. So glad you don't actually hate it! Makes me like you about 100000000 more than I already do. Wish I could ship you all the varieties and species of durian we have because they really are spectacular, though I understand they are an acquired taste so you either like it or hate it. Go watch Chiodini's Kitchen on Eurogamer's RU-vid channel. He's actually done 2 Breath of the Wild vids already and has been doing nothing but video game foods every week for a while now. He cooks with more everyday ingredients that aren't super expensive and makes the recipe more accessible too.

I don't know about anyone else, but being intolerant to cow's milk made me gain a whole new appreciation for goat's milk. If this disembodied sexy torso tells me goat butter exists and describes it as funky and tasty, cookbook or not, you bet your ass I am going to move heaven and earth to find it in my country. I miss butter :(

The Baked Apple in the game is just a warmed apple from sitting by a fire. Also, for most players, by the time you've gotten to Kakariko, you head to Farron and Link begins his journey to being a durian addicted freak! I actually do that from the start now when I start over (not on my main profile, that one is 99.99999999999% complete, only final trials left) as you can run from the GP to Faron fairly fast, so you can use all orbs for stamina first.

I made this and would definitely recommend carving in a hole for the horns and putting the durian in the purple frosting in the middle with only a thin layer. Makes it far less over powering

Easy risotto? Put rice in a pot. Add a can of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and a can of water. Cook until liquid is gone. Enjoy. This meal got me through college.
