wait so if you decide to make a different class or a different build does it mean you would have to start anew? do you get save slots for a different playthrough or it overwrites itself when you start a new game?
This video is so freaking helpful. I was digging around so much trying to find the individual class perks I thought I would have to make every class just to see. Thanks a lot chief.
I hope they introduce an Engineer class to the game in future content. I'd love to play a little critter using gadgets, laying traps, plunking down turrets, or maybe even siccing a mechanical pet on their enemies. It just seems like a class that would fit well and that would be very unique compared to the other classes.
I was just sitting here thinking “ boy these are really low percentages” And then you just have one that gives you 100% more damage with two handed guns.......
yeah... I feel like the perks are not well though out. like... I'm far from a game designer but even I could come up with better and more balanced perks.
You know what is funny, Dead Eye was advertised as the hybrid class that mixes melee and ranged damage, and it has all perks for long range fights, while Commando is the real hybrid for a mix of close to mid range damage with melee + shotguns and berserk when going low health.
@@justaguy653 you’re worried about a naming convention? that’s odd... anyhow, as far as i’ve seen, the people pushing dead eye as the hybrid and commando as the gunner have all been people who are presenting the game and not the devs, and usually from what i’ve seen it’s people who don’t actually look at the class beyond the first screen who have said this, so yeah. i’ve not seen anything where it’s actually the devs themselves saying one class is for guns while the other is not, tho it’s possible i’ve missed it🤷♂️. but what i’ve seen from the devs, the mercenary was made to be the hybrid class, which is why it has all the perks that other classes have. either way, still a strange thing to be “worried” about. especially at this point where we’ve seen a bunch of footage and hours of gameplay it’s weird to me that people still want to think they are hiding something. y’all have gotten to damn paranoid buying AAA games all the time. anyhow, i’d actually look at *who* is saying the dead eye class was a hybrid and that commando was for guns, cuz i’m gonna guess it was people who were previewing the game and just making assumptions
@@mkv2718 A naming convention…? I’m worried because this game has been in development for years and some of the devs were getting the class wrong, yes you missed that, it wasn’t just youtubers. I find it strange you wrote up an article because I said I was worried. God forbid people in this society think differently about something.
@@mkv2718 I'm worried seeing that the perks and classes and equipment seem wholly unbalanced. Perks having the same name and doing different things. A class bein locked behind a paywall before release. No equipment that gives you int? or spell damage, and looking at pewdiepies video really boring equipment, when there was such a grand opportunity to mix and match and fuse difernt mechanics. For example there is no way to make a meele mage without being much worse than either a mage or meele. The best meele class behind a paywall. There are many red flags in the details.
@@phillipporch2531 Based on the names and what they do, it kinda feels like they accidentally misnamed the 2 classes. I feel like Deadeye is the real Commando class and Comando is what Deadeye should be.
@@skyblue2708 I think Deadeye is appropriately named, but Commando doesn't seem like a commando at all. When I think of a commando, I think of tactics and strategies, charging in from the front lines. Seems like they just should've changed the name of Commando, but I don't see how that class should be named Deadeye at all.
my question would be do any items/armor give % increase to armor based of base armor stat. In that situation it would act as a multiplier like in Path Of Exile vs an additive value. Still seems like a bad starting perk imo, but makes me curious.
If that was the case, the armor would be very small. If I understood it correctly (from this video) you get 70 ish armor at high level. So that 10% would turn into 7 rather than just flat 10.
@@kinderbomb But if I understand the perk properly, you get a flat +10. I believe in the video they said "70-ish for a chest piece". There are something like 4 or 5 armor slots. So +10 would give you just the +10, where +10% would give you +7 (10% of 70) x4 (or 5) slots for a total of +28(or +35).
Definetly if you don't have the Merc class. I really want to be a mage but I feel like the spells will get boring after a short time it doesn't look like there's very many
@@Will-kl3tc I have merc, but the perks for dead eye are just so good. also ranged doesnt need as much stat allocation as melee so I can put it all into luck
I agree! Based on this there are some fairly limited choices and combinations, which should not be the case. There's some fairly useless or underpowered Perks in there. I have to think there's a berserker type armor that increases toughness greatly at low health to make Commando viable, otherwise, I just don't know what to say about that class as a whole.
@@ericsaari2901 exactly! I was excited about build variability in the game and was planning on making this a day 1 purchase, but after seeing this I think I’m going to give it a few months to let them flesh some things out.
yeah commando needs huge buffs, im not sure what, but well find out soon after launch, and sentinels armor buff seems pretty lax, maybe change it to either percentage based armor buff or even percentage based damage reduction
no dead eye is the dual pistol build this guy is just thinking of damage numbers only and not dps which is what i imagine dual pistols is for, let me help you before you make a bad decision and choose commando 25% reload speed and 20% fire rate and 10% damage and on successful perfect reload 20% damage = way higher dps then commando (+10% damage and crit damage), dead eye is the way to go for dual pistols
@@aidankhaos7687 how can you say that when a class is almost entirely based on dodging and Stam management in a single player game. You're against AI, the only thing that matters is dps output
@@sandman1347 you don't need to of course, but the guy who select commando or saboteur might feel like class perks are useless. Even though it's not a competitive game, its always fun to feel powerful. Saboteur won't lmao
"why was psi freak the only skipped class?" fixed it for you. not sure how this weird word order came about when asking questions but i'm fucking sick of it. learn to speak like a fucking adult.
Great video! I like how you deep dive into actual useful info compared to some other tips videos that are usually brain dead obvious. Subbed for more biomutant stuff, keep it up!
I'm even more annoyed now about the mercenary class. I pre-ordered physical copy in 2018. I don't understand why they are limiting it to digital pre-orders only. I'm hoping the other skills are more interesting cause the skills on these classes are kinda meh.
Thank you for the video. I wanted to go with Merc, but now, I need to make the decision of Dead Eye or Psi Freak, in addition to my initial plan on playing a dual wield odachi build.
I would assume they are just considered range weapons. so maybe commando would be better for bows. im not really sure tho because you would pump lots of crit as a deadeye so it may work well with deadeye especially because of the reload speeds.
@@Joyapp If they’re having other subtypes such as pistol and rifle. I don’t think it would be classified as something as generic as “ranged.” In my mind, the two options are will they be their own subcategory called “bow” or lumped in with “rifle” like a lot of games do.
I feel like they should give gunslinger to saboteur or commando and give dead eye something else. Even if perk isn't super good, at least you would use it. It sounds like they need to rebalance the classes and abilities a little bit.
Going Sentinel for my first/main run of the game, after seeing the perks, it all the more so secures that decision for me. I also like the look of Dead Eye, Psi-Freak and Merc if I were to go for a heavier focus in one of those directions offensively. That said, I really like the unique perks that Sentinel offers, and whilst Toughness will probably fall off in benefits by late game, it seems very valuable for early to mid and isn't nothing to scoff at late. The other perks are what draw me all the more. I'm not as worried about min/max offensive power, so the unique perks like Knock simple add to the fun factor for me.
Small correction: The Commando receives the same starter pistol as the other classes, it's just not immediately equipped like the others. Not shown: The Psi-Freak starts with a pair of electric gloves (forget the actual name) as a melee weapon.
I probably won't ever do this again for another game, but I pre-ordered biomutant. Been waiting for so long. Reminds me so much of ratchet and clank, but with rpg mechanics. I'm so hyped!!
Kneejerk reaction: There appears to be too many bland perks that are never going to get picked (realistically - from a "meta" standpoint). Don't mean to be overly negative, but I was expecting more spice I guess. For sure starting with psifreak with this information though, good stuff.
Oh you know how it is with these games today. Don't make them too deep or thought provoking and stuff in lots of hand holding and button mashing to keep the smooth brains engaged. The days of crafting unique builds that involve a lot methodology along with trial and error are pretty much gone.
@@jameswtlocs ok so it's an indie level production that has to be treated with kid gloves, I get that. What I said wasn't really directed solely at this particular studio but was more of a generality stating that games have become oversimplified through the years. Hell the best thing any new studio can do is break the mold and do the opposite to set themselves apart and get noticed. We'll see how their first foray shakes out.
Definitely helped. Going for a dead eye build but since there is no stat to increase ranged damage I'm still unsure and also I wonder where bows fit into the perks. Maybe treated as 2 handed ranged?
I see myself using a two-handed sword, dual pistol using Psi-Freak with quickload & brain drain. Don't know about damage but consistent gunfire and magic spam with instant 20% heal and instant Auto reloads makes me invincible!
I imagine Saboteur taking the perfect reload perk could be a good hybrid melee and ranged build between the dodging and movement speed, along with the perfect reload could be okay. Either way it seems like all the classes have potential to get players off to a decent start for their builds.
Thank you very much for the information, but having seen this video I'm a bit disappointed. I was most curious about maybe trying out a Psi-Freak class, but the video sounds like that class would be under-powered and weak. If nothing in the game gives your psi-powers any boosts, then what's the point? It sounds like weapons would still be your main source of damage, in which case I should play a melee or ranged class. I don't know what armor does, but I assume that it doesn't affect the damage side of a character at all, so that should be the same either way. I can see that they wouldn't want psi-powers to overshadow weapons for a balanced approach, but it sounds like weapons will obviously overshadow psi-powers.
Would you be able to make a video showcasing some of the earlier psi abilities before launch? Since im still tossed between the mercenary and the psi freak
Thanks for this! I was trying to decide between Commando and Dead Eye. As the instant reload mechanics were not described and as the Commando seems to look like a rifle user, I was leaning towards Commando. I now know Dead Eye is the right choice!
I don’t know if the video was out before the last maj but now you can get all class perks with the new game plus. All perks in the game are obtainable, there no exclusive build anymore after you done the game the first time. With lvl 100, which is the new max lvl cap, you have enough perks points to get all weapons perks, general perks and class perks. And I didn’t include the additional perks points you get by reading perks books after you beat boss villages. Class in this game are only impactful in early gameplay but the more you get some lvl and finishing the game the more it become not important. This actually great because this give you all the liberty to personalize your characters.
Just wanted to say your websote has better guides and information than your larger competitors. Please dont loose thay quality and keep up the good work.
You talk about the potential merits of a preorder. Bigger question for me is the overall merits of an order period. The game looks awesome, but that's kind of the point of trailers. How does it perform on a decent pc? Does it have decent keyboard and mouse controls? Etc etc etc.
to be fair I don't think it is actually locked behind a paywall. all you have to do is pick up a digital copy or a standard copy of the game. and you get it. you don't have to pre-order it. it should be inside the case.
you can buy it separately. or so ive heard. Regardless, its really not a big deal. the class doesnt change the gameplay much at all. And it's a single player game. so it's not like youre gonna be battling players using that class
You will unlock the class by playing the game for free, with how low price the game is retailed at combined with the amount of delays i think they did this gimick to make sure they sold alot of copies early. In the light of how much good and how open the developer has been i would not worry at all buddy :) But i agree, its not a good markting idea
@@the_metamancer its not locked behind a paywall tho. it's a bonus for pre ordering. and they are makinf it available for those who decided they didnt want to pre order. What i find funny is how no one complains when they do this and just leave the content as a pre order bonus that no one can get ever again if they miss out. But give the option to buy it separately and it becomes a huge issue
@@69Bassi69 Okay, I thought from the first minuet of the video it said pre order or buy it separately, but if it is something like an unlockable then that is a different omen lol
@@Will-kl3tc levitate, telekinesis, spark ball, sizzle ball, fire dodge, blink, a kind of aoe ring of frost, emperor lightning, get a rock out of the ground and throw it in yo face ( use whatever name you want), the radioactive missiles, a toxic aoe, the mushrooms, the mucus bubble, AND all the mutations powers cause yeah they also benefits from the same perks as the pis powers. If you consider that '' not many spells'' then yeah there won't be many. plus the ones we actually don't know yet if there are any.
kinda disappoints me that they couldn't manage to make more coherent and cohesive classes. commando needs serious reworks, and sabateur needs some love.
I am curious to see if there is a class that is more of a jack of all trades? Or which would be the most similar to this class? I'm super ocd about creating a char class and not having what I want or being able to attain my goal! Thanks for the help!
@showbizonastick if AAA Games were flowing like normal they could've spent more time improving the dialogue and other features. If things were normal they might of spent 1 more year on it to give it voicing and release it on new gen.
This was helpful because I was going to preorder because I wanted the mercenary class but knowing what it does, I don't want it and can now wait for reviews to roll out. Want to do a gun mage build but it seems like that's fundamentally a bad idea.
So, this is helpful sure with determining what class I want to start woth, but doesn't really help me understand what build I'm going to do. Without seeing the general perks idk what I can make. Is there somewhere out there I can find that info?
Depends how much you want said game i bought the pre-order personaly but thats just me if you really want to play it asap and with the merc class pre-order DIGITALLY cause physical want give you that
Merc - dps - It's all about the moniez, moniez, moniez... that's why I have a problem. (Never said I knew the words to the song, did I?) Saboteur (Should Have Been) - Debuff specialist/Face toon (Perfect excuse for a box toon power in a Metal Gear reference; or a Ninja Ghost... but they went lamed dodge tank) Sentinel - Tank Spec (Not optimally implemented, but I can see what they were trying for) Dead Eye - Ranged Spec (Char names accepted: Boom! or Head Huntcho) Commando - All-Rounder (Anything I can do, you can do... better) Psi-Freak - Scanners! (Or Eve Featuring Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Your Mind) I'm thinking Sentinel Unarmed with full str/vit named "Cap't Deer God Y" or Pained Killer Or a Psi-Freak named X-Mangy with full Int/Luck if I can (Someone might get the two mixed up and think I'm talking about chromosomes ; ) ) SO many people will probably just name it Eleven. When the price drops a bit, or the stores open properly again, I've been waiting to give this one a try. Wonder if I can make a Wolverine type, that actually looks like one? o. O I'd be original and name him Howlett; Logan the Shogun, or Weapon-X lol.
Lol screw that. Mercenary is too cool. Starts with a katana and wakazashi and the developer actually cares about this game, imo. It’s going to be good.
Dude thank you so much for this video. Starting class indecision is a huge source of anxiety for me in these games and I was just telling a friend today how bad I wish someone with an early copy would make a starter guide so I have a better idea of what to pick. I'm goin mercenary it seems 😅
Yeah I am extremely disappointed such an unnecessary decision. While I like fextralife am I always sad how little they care about the consumer. Even promoting the pre order.
So many cry babies in the comments god the games not out yet, they made a class exclusive big deal look at so many other games that do it worse just wait and see what happens on release I guarantee that you can BUY it not get it for free
It feels like this game is trying to do too much, spread too thin. All about crafting weapons, items, armor, vehicles. Then there's melee and range attacks, magical abilities and then martial arts. idk, these perks feel poorly distributed and may unfortunately run into the issue of a lot of perks have no real value when it comes to actually playing the game. BUT i hope I'm completely wrong. I'm definitely waiting to watch/read reviews before pulling the trigger on this one. ps artstyle's rad though!
On the dead eye perks, you’re not missing out on any perks bc it’s excluding assault rifles, not saying it’s sniper exclusive, so the dual pistols would still get all the previous perks. *except sharpshooter, 2 handed got me
I think the point of saboteur is more for people that run away from combat a lot as they play, because it makes disengaging and avoiding much easier. For some players, they'd rather explore or loot stuff than get in a bunch of fights.
I think they messed up the saboteur class lol, it should be like assasin/rogue type of class with skill like blink, backstab, DoT stuff etc the dodge perks is bad imo And about avoiding fight, i dont think it can work that way, if you meet enemies it locked out like a battle arena and you need to slay all of emm before you proceed cmiiw
Yeah, after this I think the same. At first I was looking at Sentinel 2handed melee build. But the armor bonus really put me off. But now it's kinda confirmed that mercenary is just alot better...
@@JayPee6445 Twin Silver grip is available to all classes, so in a way Mercenary and Saboteur get less perks. Sentinel seems to be the go-to for a tanky type character. The perk that gives their dodge knockdown is interesting. I like abilities that let me knock enemies about.
@@Diceux no, they start out with two perks and it neither count as the 5 unique perks. Mercenary, saboteur and psifreak are the only classes starting with 2 perks. So in no way they have less perks in fact they have 1 more at least form the start anyway.
This just looks like this project wasn't supposed to be an RPG maybe? Otherwise, it's hard to understand how those perks and classes are such a confusing mess.
Don't be, there's nothing truly unique about the mercenary class it's a mixture of class perks and just another starting loadout. All breeds and classes can use all armors, weapons and guns. The mercenary just gets a slight increase in a few areas where similar classes don't, but they in turn get other perks that the mercenary don't. Having played the game up to level 40 so far i can say that you can probably archieve similar damage numbers with all breeds and classes, 10% doesn't really do a lot in the long run, if you ask me it's all about where you place your attribute points when you level up that truly makes the difference. Dead eye however does seem to have an edge with that 100% increase though, but i can't say how impactfull it is as i haven't played the class yet.
