A brief intro to the features of Bitwig that I think are most attractive to modular artists, and how seamless it is to use a combination of software and hardware.

As an Ableton vet and a Bitwig newbie this is so much easier (faster and cleaner) than digging out all of the max for live plugs/cv tools into racks. After watching this will definitely be incorporating more Bitwig into jams, thanks for the tutorials!!

nice video, im thinking of switching to Bitwig for the eurorack integration..why are you clicking the AC button on the modulator in? ES modules are DC coupled.

Is that a straight connection from your computer to the es 3 then back from the es 6 straight back to your computer or is there a dc coupled usb interface involved?

No, the connection is: DAW => USB => Scarlett 18i20 => ADAT => ES3 => Eurorack Eurorack => ES6 => ADAT => Scarlett 18i20 => USB => DAW Expert Sleepers has other modules, like the ES-8 or ES-9 which will allow you to go directly from computer to CV over USB. In my case going over ADAT made sense for me since I already had other analog gear I/O.

are there any benefits with bitwig's implemention vs ableton's?

Bitwig has more modulators, The Grid is way easier to mix'n'match hardware and software modules, and I've just found it a lot more straightforward to get what I want with BW. Short demo of using The Grid with eurorack comes up in 2 hours.

@@ferrycollider so does it make bigwig like ableton with max4live?
@ferrycollider
@ferrycollider 3 года назад
@@2of238 Sorta, but not really. Bitwig modulators are like Ableton CV Tools times 100. The Grid is a simpler version of Max4Live targeted at making modular-like things. Max4Live is really something else entirely though compared to The Grid.

@@ferrycolliderAlright and what have you notice in the CPU performance in both DAWs? Ableton have the tendency of crashing under the heavy performance but I am not aware of bitwig.

@@2of238 I didn't have CPU performance issues under Ableton, so I haven't noticed CPU with Bitwig. I certainly don't miss the frequent crashes in Ableton. Bitwig sandboxes plugins, so if a plugin crashes, you can configure it to restart just that plugin, all plugins from that manufacturer, or all plugins. Once or twice I've had the audio system crash, but when this happens the program and all your works stays open, the audio components gray out, and you can just click "Activate Audio Engine" to get things going again.

The LFO on reverb mix creates a very disorienting acoustical effect!
