official video for bachelorette by björk - HD reupload directed by michel gondry. written by björk/sigurjón birgir sigurdsson (aka sjón). ® 1997 BjörkOverseas Ltd/One Little Indian Records Ltd.
I remember growing up in the 90s, she was brave enough to be herself, be creative and evolve her music. Because she was being different the media/chart/music shows would completely ridicule her a LOT. When you listen to a bjork song, you honestly couldn’t tell if it was released in the 90s or right now….that’s how far ahead she was with her music. She put her critics to shame.
I had a friend show me her videos about 6 months ago and I keep coming back to listen to her. He had thought and told me this music came out within the last few years and I believed him too. We literally thought this was new stuff. Both of us are very avid music enthusiasts too, I listen to all kinds of music.
Really? I grew in the same era and although I seem to remember people thought she was brilliant even back then. The gossip media certainly had a field day with her, but when it comes to music I feel like Bjork has always been thought of as incredibly influential and ahead of her time. Madonna wanted to work with her. Peter Jackson wanted her to sing the end theme to the second Lord of the Rings movie. She wasn't languishing in obscurity waiting to be appreciated 30 years later, that's for sure.
I grew up in the 90's an everydbody was absolutely IN LOVE with Bjork, she was litteraly one of the most admired artist at the time, this song in particular was everywhere. So we propbably lived in different countries :)
The video is actually extremely dark on an apocalyptic level. When the publisher falls out of love, all books are unwritten and all people and buildings get devoured by the bushes and the trees. The city turns into a forest with the empty book buried deep inside the ground, until she finds it again while digging and everything repeats itself in an infinite loop.
don't think this line has anything to do with the age we live in specifically. being a fountain of blood is simply a sensation, when you become aware of the sheer volumes of blood coursing through you.
@@eggheadusa9900 im 30 and been obsessed with her since i was 20.. i was lucky enough to see her Biophilia show in LA, it was the best show of my life.
This music video should've won an Oscar for best director, best original screenplay, best actress, best original soundtrack, best cinematography, literally EVERY category even though it's a mv bc it's a goddamn MASTERPIECE. 🙌🙌
Compared to the modern mvs 100x YES! Stories in music video supposed to evolve, but right now we have some dancing and dancing and dirty, half naked dance, yaay, wow, so ambitious.
Recently discovered her. I can’t say I’m accustomed to her style or completely understand it, but there’s something about her music that sparks curiosity and raw beauty. I love this video.
Omg same! I gave Bjork's discography a chance this year because her albums' covers are so interesting. I used to listened only to "Army of Me", "I Miss You" and "Venus as a Boy" but after listening her albums entirely one by one I just got obsessed
The ever amazing Michel Gondry!! He did a few other Björk music videos & great films like Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind & the Science I’d Sleep! ✨
I'm a fountain of blood In the shape of a girl You're the bird on the brim Hypnotised by the whirl Drink me, make me feel real Wet your beak in the stream Game we're playing is life Love's a two way dream Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a path of cinders Burning under your feet You're the one who walks me I'm your one way street I'm a whisper in the water Secret for you to hear You're the one who grows distant When I beckon you near Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a tree that grows hearts One for each that you take You're the intruder's hand I'm the branch that you break
The funny thing about this song is it's arguably her song with the greatest lyrics, and it's also the song that she had someone else write the lyrics for haha.
Nathan Aaron I'd have a hard time arguing it to be her best written piece. Hyperballad being much better written and pagan poetry being a far more beautiful atmosphere. Great song but I wouldn't go as far as to say best.
frankie d it’s still mind-blowing to me how someone who was so young at the time could write such evocative, mature lyrics, while also spearheading the popularization of a genre, while still subverting said genre. I saw her @ Pitchfork the last year before I moved from Chicago, & I’ll never forget it. I was like 15 feet away from her. Amazing show.
one day , i found a big book buried deep in the ground , i opened it , but all the pages were blank and to my surprise , it started writing itself one day , i found a big book buried deep in the ground .
I remember the strangeness of watching this video after midnight or maybe 2 o'clock in the morning in MTV Brazil around 1998. It was so different from everything that I have seen. For me Bachelorette video illustrates very well Walter Benjamins's concept of the narrator and experience in crisis.
I had the same experience around 1993. I had just bough a 20" tv set and subscribed to the now extinct TVA. The very first night I turned on the tv I saw the clip to 'Human Behavior' on MTV Brasil.
@@thalesm4056 Verdade.
I literally cried for hours after listening this beautiful masterpiece...I'm fighting with mental illness and this song speaks to my soul. It breaks my heart but I need it because it makes me feel alive. Thank you Bjork for being so unique and gifted. Your art is a dark and enlightening wander for lonely souls like me. You are truly loved ❤️
Tengo el concierto de Cornucopia MEX 2019 .. es con cámara de video pero se escucha muy bien.. lo puedo compartir por google drive ! I have the Cornucopia Mexico concert, if you want I can share to you by google Drive
I was 17 in 1997, and just got a scholarship from my country Kuwait to study in Japan, left to Japan and there I entered tower records in Shibuya and listened to this song and bought the CD immediately, till this day I listen to it like its 1997.
this is easily one of the best songs of all time!!! the way she is able to combine classic orchestra with electronic music is just amazing 😭 the lyrics are complex without being forced, her voice is just IMPECCABLE, it tells a story even without the music video!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Bjork= best vocalist of last 25 years hands down. Ever notice no one can sing bjork song without it sounding like a cover song whereas bjork can sing anything and make it her own. Facts
I've seen Massive Attack followed by Radiohead and followed by Bjork on the same night in 1996. :p And Bowie on the same stage the night before...with Mazzy Star. No Portishead but i've seen them quite a few times too.
yea, it could be interpreted so many different ways. Like how fame and the greed of the industry takes a toll on her, you get chewed and spit out, it all repeats itself, she's trapped, and in the end shes back in nature, where she belongs. Just beautiful. (Thats why I loved the 90's, there used to be so many creative music videos that tell a proper story, which today I miss alot.)
This is, by a country mile, the best song on the album. The fact that it's also one of the best music videos *ever*, directed by a certified genius, is just gravy.
I ve seen her a few times live. But the show at pukkelpop was so good i will never forget it. My brother was standing next to me and he said :’how lucky are we to be here’ - he was right. And indeed, some crowd walked out while the show was on. But it s just people that don t understand it. It was one of the best things i ever saw, next to Prince.
This is such a powerful song. It really makes so feel like the fate of the fucking earth depend on this relationship. Few artists are good enough the provoke emotions like this❤️
I think the comments don't praise enough the song itself. This is a real epic timeless masterpiece here, and one of my favourite songs ever. This is so theatrical, and the composition is really unique and ahead of its time. Björk's vocals are ridiculously awesome and very emotional, she's really an amazing artist.
Hi, I really love this song. Even when I didn't know lyrics (English isn't my first language). And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song? I would appreciate it very much
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation : First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest. She lives alone until a big city emerges and she discovers a New life. I think then that the title " Bachelorette " refers to the loneliness of Isobel before going to the city. So, in " Bachelorette ", Isobel arrives to the city ( that's why the instrumentation sounds like a train ) and discovers a whole new world. She's really excited ( that's why she says " I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl " ) because she discovers new sides of herself, like her sexuality. I think this song is an expression of everything Isobel feels in the city, she's " hypnotized by the whirl ", as she said in the song. At the end of the song, I think she probably returns to the forest, that's why we hear an accordion, and the sequel to this song is " Alarm Call ", where we can see in the video Isobel back in the forest, testing her boundaries and limits after her experience in the city. I think the story of Isobel is related to Björk, who was born in Iceland but then moved to London and discovered a new world. That remains my own intepretation, as I think many interpretations are possible, I hope it will be useful to you :)
@@poesie_paienne Thank you so much for taking time to answer. That was very useful and informative. Now I know what songs I'll listen un order to make my own interpretation . Thanks and have a good day 😁
I'm a fountain of blood In the shape of a girl You're the bird on the brim Hypnotised by the whirl Drink me, make me feel real Wet your beak in the stream Game we're playing is life Love's a two way Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a path of cinders Burning under your feet You're the one who walks me I'm your one-way street I'm a whisper in the water Secret for you to hear You're the one who grows distant When I beckon you near You might also like Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a tree that grows hearts One for each that you take You're the intruder's hand I'm the branch that you break
@@samanthajones87886you act as an ignorant person. First, there is much 'artsy' metal music, especially in its progressive/avant-guarde/exptreme subgenres. Check out maudlin of the well, for example. Metal is not just Metallica, you know? Second, Bjork is not that experimental/avant-guarde. It's more like creative art pop. Her music videos were on MTV, come on. If something is on MTV, it's not avant-guarde. You'll never hear experimental metal music on MTV. I guess that's why you don't know much about metal.
This is the first time ive heard this song (i dont get out much) and its f-g brilliant. God i love Bjork. I bought her records in the 90's but she scares me a bit. Every time i see her and listen to her voice at the same time i get this weird feeling in my heart like a jump or a squeeze. Its weird. She is fascinating to me but i dont know why. i totally understand how crazy people can obsess about her. Anyway i dont like feeling crazy/weird so i dont watch alot of her videos but im glad youtube sent me here to watch this. Great song. Thankyou Bjork you living legend and slightly supernatural deity.
It's funny i can see how she would intimidate guys. As a girl she spoke to my inner self. I could always find lyrics that i could relate to. I can see though as a man, looking from the outside at this beautiful fiery creature how they could be intimidated. To me it was empowering.
@@abandonedmuse Yes i see that, i dont feel intimidated as such (intimidate seems like a favourite word from the tv nowadays though) but she scares me because she makes me feel a bit crazy. i like her too much and in a way that i dont like any other celeb. i could easily obsess over her. I think she is the most powerful woman in entertainment in some ways and i can only describe her as slightly supernatural. A beautiful fiery creature is a good description, I sometimes like playing with fire but its always a mistake.
@@abandonedmuse yes but i dont know the details, and dont want to know, but i think thats the thing about her, she is so incredible its easy to go crazy over her. My original comment was meant to marvel at her and at her slightly super human qualities but i dont want to start a conversation about mental people and weirdness. I just wonder what is it that makes her so special. Its not really her looks or just her voice, it must be something else.
@@alexc6324 yeah her creativity. And I mentioned it because guys get creepy like that and it freaks me out. Good to know you aren’t that wild. Yeah she is definitely a beautiful spark in this otherwise extremely insane and dark world.
Is it a film? I’m a producer and composer but I am also a ufo researcher and communicator. Would you like to attend a real ufo sighting it might inspire you the way it has me but regardless the levels in your music are incredible and continue to inspire my choices occasionally in very cool ways . I have a sequel to my documentary “Curse of the man who sees ufos “ that just finished a two year run on Netflix. Called “the man who sees ufos “ coming soon ! The Muzik in that film is totally composed on mobile iOS computing and instruments as well as hardware synth design and found objects etc. also your music gives me focus in moments that I need that. I don’t know why but it just happens. Peace and many thanks Christo and Mr Gino 👽🐕☮️🛸🎶💀😉🙏✌️
Bjork is truly one of the greatest musical artists, creative artists ever - and nicest person, and even if it is inappropriate to say - hottest women ever as well. I will never get tired of her music and ever not be amazed by the creativity in her music videos.
I’m mesmerized how her music so closely resembles my life and my feelings. My capacity to feel pain is equal to my capacity to feel this deeply and resonate with a song of this nature. I don’t fight the pain anymore
A work of art. 👍 Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image. A beauty of rare charm! /... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙
Remember this from my childhood. We watched it on MTV Russia. Such a nostalgia. Didn’t understand her music until growing old. Now finally I get this vibe!
This is still, and forever will be, a masterpiece song out of a masterpiece album. So many years have gone by so far, but the beauty didn't gather any dust, it still shines.
